I don't know if he is going to be worth that but lets see what he puts up this season since its a contract year.

If he motivated, ie not playin wit the games biggest ball hog, ie kobe, dude could still be an elite frontcourt player.

Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook make max monies. Ill take a healthy Gasol over either one. As long as I dont have Kobe bc Pau sulks when Kobe plays hero ball, but then again so did shaq, dwight and bynum

the games biggest ball hog turned him from a 0-12 playoff leader into a 2 time champion

then when the games biggest ball hog went down last year.. gasol fallowed it up by climbing to 0-16 in the playoffs without kobe

what a shame... if only pau had more seasons as #1 option... he could have set a record for futility

Anyone honestly think he fell off? He was right when he said he was tired. He was tired of Kobe ballhogging and trying to take all the credit. Do you blame him? They should have shared those rings, Kobe wins finals mvp first year... great. Second year should be Gasol's turn. Kobe swoops in and chuck mode to get slightly better stats to take it from him. Even as beta as he can be with Kobe, he has got to be tired of being Kobes biatch. Pau is not going to say crap to Kobe but instead enjoy the huge salary and shut it down to see how far Kobe could carry the team himself --- as we can see from the past 3 years...not far. Now that it's a contract year, of course he will stats pad way more on this crappy team that won't go far at all.

you're correct

a) gasol is as good as ever

b) gasol hates kobe

c) kobe took gasols ring and is keeping it in his house

d) kobe bought the voters in 2010 for finals mvp

e) kobe "swooped"/swong in on a rope and stole the trophy from bill russell as he was handing it to gasol

f) gasol is tanking to expose kobe. which explains his drop in production

g) gasol will now again be an allstar/ all nba/ 20ppg player and get a max contract extension

so the myth that Kobe makes players better has been busted.

the all-star Gasol turns into a scrub after joining Kobe.

thats never been a myth or even suggested.. kobe doesnt need to rely on others to bail him out like lebron.. he wins with sh*t team mates and chucking bad shots( for any other guy) over 3 defenders cause hes that damn good. he can go against the system and succeed..

kind of like a guy who plays blind fold with 1 arm tied behind his back.

the nba is kobes play ground. hes just trollin everyone when he takes those 40 footers with 20 seconds left on the clock while knocking down the same percentage as legends that only shot wide open with their toes on the line

Gasol may not be at his absolute best but he is still one of the best big men in the game. He hasn't been able to stay healthy and he has been asked to play out of his natural role for the last few years. If you let him play around the basket and give him the ball he'll be fine.

The big ball hog had failed to even win a playoff series in the 3 seasons after Shaq left until Gasol joined the team

LA with Kobe in the playoffs would have lost in 4 or 5 just like they did the last 2 years probably in 4

kobe brought kwame and smush to the playoffs. thats legendary on its own

the lakers without gasol in 2008 were in 1st place in the west almost midway through the season before they had injuries ---which forced them to trade for gasol

the facts are.. yea .... kobe needed gasol.. but that isnt saying much. because gasol isnt a top 100 player all time.

so kobe needed 1 decent player to win back to back titles... sure.. but 95% of finals mvps had higher ranked 2nd options all time

go through every single year... maybe 3-4 guys had lower ranked 2nd options all time

walton for portland
barry for g-state
hakeem for his 1st title
and dennis johnson

for a while duncan was thrown into that mix. but its obvious with each passing year parker is climbing that all time list

gasol... 2 third team all nba's, 1 2nd team

4 reserve allstar spots

vince carter had a better career. and hes a joke. the only way gasol makes the hall of fame is for his international competition

throw in the fact that hes 0-16 as leader in the playoffs. that makes him a f*cking failure

:lol

kobe bryant won 2 titles with zero nba hall of famers... nobody else can say that.

kobe needed gasol... ya... so what... thats like saying "hakeem needed sam cassell"

ya so... and? who the f*ck are gasol and cassell

kennethgriffin

most top 20 players all time had another top 20-30 player all time

kobe won 2 titles with a guy who has less individual accomplishments than penny hardaway

13.7ppg, 8.6rpg, 4.1apg, 46.6%fg

no allstar appearance in 3 years

he wants 20 million

:coleman:

rudy gay made 16 mill last year...

Honestly, and I feel kind of blasphemous saying this, pau is probably worth more than kobe from a basketball standpoint going forward. I would feel like my team had a better title chance with him maxed out than kobe.

The funny thing is that pau was arguably better than kobe in 2010....so what does that say?

Also, pau is going to the HOF. No question.

It's called negotiating...

Ever max player probably thinks he'll always be worth the max, especially a bigman.

remember when people look back it won't be just Gasol. It will be Gasol, Phil, Odom, Bynum, Fisher along with Kobe and supporting cast. Gasol was a great player and still is second tier but the coaching and the strong front court meant something as well. Kobe is second to MJ in popularity and Lebron is following on from that. Someone has to keep the league alive and in hopes of taking MJ's crown. Kobe had his chances and missed out now its Lebron's turn.

I wouldnt give him more than the MLE for how he played last year. His D was pathetic and he didnt produce much on offense.

Amare got 20 million in his last contract.

It's not out of the question for some team that has lacked a real big who can get 20/10 on a regular basis: Toronto, Milwaukee.

Doubt he will get 20 million per year, but 3 years, 15 million per year (45 million total), that's reasonable. Al Jefferson got around that much.

Next year, Atlanta, Toronto, Milwaukee, Washington, Dallas, Boston will have cap space to give him a contract like that.

But he's not a 20 and 10 type of player anymore. He has been injured a lot since 2011...

Pau or Amare?
Amare doesn't deserve that money know because of health issues (unfortunately).
But Pau at 15-16 million per year with teams lacking a scoring big and with cap space? That's realistic.

Unquestionably a HOFer on the basis of his NBA career, and his international resume makes him a first-ballot guy.

That being said, since the 2011 playoffs, he's been a bitch. Maybe it's playing fewer minutes at the pivot (with Drew and then Dwight playing heavy minutes alongside him), or maybe he's still shook from that Shannon Brown thing with his gf. Either way, hopefully he's ready to play this season.

There will be at least 6 teams with cap space to sign him to a 15-16 million deal (plus Utah, if they want to spend their cap space on him), and probably a few more who could make moves to go after him.

He'll get a big deal next year, 15-16 million per year.

Oh I thought you meant 20 mill for Pau. Yeah he should be in that range then, just because of his talents and experience in International play and NBA.

First off if you read the article he never said that.

Secondly if the Lakers are smart they move on from Kobe and Pau after the season unless they play for less than $25m in combined salary which neither seem willing to do, unlike Dirk and other peers of theirs who already have and would.

Really, Kobe and Pau should play for vet minimum each and then the Lakers bring in Carmelo Anthony and another star player. And then win another ring.

Kobe and Pau would make it up via endorsements; it is LA.

They're already in LA getting endorsements so, no they would be losing out.
They also wouldn't take that kind of money.

But..if they could do...

Nash - 9
Kobe - 13
Gasol - 11

They would enough money left for Melo and then some.

If Kobe insists on $20+m and Pau over $12m time to move on

1] OP continues to show how stupid he is as Pau never says max, nor does he mention a specific dollar amount. He just stated he would not take a paycut, which is nothing wrong to say considering.

2] Pau would still be a 20/10 player on a team where he is the #1 post option and is involved in a team system. I wouldn't be shocked if he dropped 20/10, given the minutes until Kobe returns and it turns into WatchMeShootBe.

Charlotte will also have cap space next year.

Al Jefferson, Pau Gasol and possibly Andrew Wiggins plus their other young players would make a solid NBA team.
