So basically a white south african couple moving to the US and having a kid?
No one would consider them african american. African american is basically black people.

Or a white Zimbabwean or Kenyan.

Yes they would be African America, but I can imagine idiotic teachers getting mad at you if you wrote that down on your SATs.

You could call them that if you want but it won't mean the same thing to most people at all.

No. That's why I don't use it. I just say black. I don't say Caucasian either; I say white.

Technically all humanity originated in Africa and spanned across the globe, so all American's are African American.

Tell that to half the nation and they'd kill themselves.

The weird bit is that even without considering white people Africa is still a pretty diverse place ethnically speaking. To name another group of people after an entire continent is kind of meaningless.

Actually Africa is the most genetically diverse. It's funny but there are more genetic similarities between white people and certain sub-Saharan ethnic groups, than between different sub-Saharan ethnic groups among them.

Racism does not make sense genetically speaking

African American is specifically referring to black Americans. Not just anyone moving from Africa.

The answer is YES because his parents and ancestry were from Africa.

However, I hate the labels of (insert country here)-Americans. You're either American by birth or by citizenship or you're not. Simple as that.
