i don't get how their congregations can even justify donating to those pastor's churches. i mean on one hand they're asking for money and selflessness to help the poor every week, and on the other hand the pastors are as materialistic as rappers. using God/religion seems like such a front with these people it kills me their congregations can allow/accept that.

and yeah the catholic church is the same way but they've been built on decades of corruption/abuse. people should know better by now, or at least make them hide their wealth more.

lol @ the bentley only being a 2007...

Here in Germany there's currently somewhat of a scandal going on with a Catholic bishop having spent something like 40 million € of church money on his residence, without the Vatican knowing what's going on. A lot of guys making a nice living off their job as higher cleric in the Catholic Church are probably pretty pissed that the new Pope is actually serious about the whole poverty thing.

To put this into perspective, here's what MJ sold for 29 million $...

And here's what will most likely cost about 40 mil €

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

that german priest thing is really really odd. Definitely involved in something illegal.

most Catholic priests make peanuts, i doubt they make 1,000 a month. However they do get all their living expenses paid. They get a tiny stipend. Sometimes when people die they leave sums of money to specific priests, but most of the time they just leave money to the church as a whole.

Order priests, like the pope, (franciscans, jesuits, etc.) make no money whatsoever. They just get their living expenses paid for.

yea, that guy certainly has streams of excrement pouring out of his every body orifice, but i also sort of look at it like this--

he's giving his congregation a big dose of inspiration, peace of mind, and ability to make it through another week. in return, each person is donating a little money... and even that act alone is a known mood booster if they merely feel it will go to charities and so forth.

what actually happens to the money is not that important, IMO. not to mention, give these preacher / scam artists enough rope and they'll often just hang themselves eventually.

it's a pretty fair transaction as far as i can tell.

In Germany, a Catholic priest can make solid money. Not that uncommon to get to like 5000 € per month.
Bishops/Cardinals can go all the way to above 10,000 € per month. Not that much compared to industry jobs, but not exactly according to the teachings of their Messiah either.

The current Pope is serious about poverty though, dude still lives in a hostel. So he's in the wrong church probably...

WTF

i didn't even know germany had a large catholic population but that's really odd. Why the f*ck do priests make so much money over there? I don't think your information is accurate. It makes no sense that catholic priests in the US make like 300$ a week versus making 5,000E a month in germany. 10,000E a month is a lot more than any industry I job i know of.

Have to go ball now, but I could show you the exact tables for salaries. They're paid according to fixed tables for government jobs (dunno how to translate this into English). Here's a slightly outdated one, the only one that makes sense for English speakers. But you'll get the idea. The left coloumn (A2-A16) shows different "levels" you're put into, the numbers from left to right (1-12) are tied to years you've been in service. So after fixed amounts of years, you'll get a raise.

A priest starts in A13, some make it to A14. So as you can see, according to this table that means about 3200€-4600€. But it's higher nowadays, the list is a bit outdated. And I've checked the current salaries for bishops, they make more. I didn't calculate tax stuff, and it's not like they're millionaires...but it's quite comfortable if you think about it.
