Strictly man-to-man, perimeter D? Some of the greatest m2m defenders i've ever seen:

-Gary Payton
-Michael Jordan
-Bruce Bowen
-Scottie Pippen
-Joe Dumars
-Dennis Rodman
-Kobe Bryant (inconsistent but a complete doberman when focused)
-Michael 'Coop" Cooper
-Sidney Moncrief
-Ron Artest (Prime)

Post man defense is fine too, but I'd keep that separate.

I am going to list non-superstars that are considered defensive specialist instead of the usual great defenders of all time. These are probably the best defenders of that particular era of 00's. Probably the greatest perimeter defenders in history in that era. Too many to name.

Cool list, thanks. That white on white Lakers uniform is ill. Hope they bring those back for all teams this year (though I think most people hated them for some reason?).

This thread was made for LeBron

http://www.interbasket.net/news/wp-content/uploads/Lebron-James-blocks-Tiago-Splitter.jpg

Who could forget that great man defense play which completly changed the coarse of that game.

Plus he guards 1-5's (seriously he has a track record of shutting down good centers see that block splitter above and he shutdown Perkins in finals) and would rip MJ in half

^^^Kobe Fullcourt man to man D on Lebron and Wade. (lol@ Hubie making excuses for Lebron)

Hubie is right... :confusedshrug: Kwame Brown got away with a foul there, that is the entire reason to why Lebron losed the ball, even if you refuse to call it a foul that is still the entire reason to why Lebron losed the ball, Kwame.... yes Kobe played great full court press, doesnt take that away, but thats not the point, the point is that turnover would have happened even if Kobe was on the bench at that time if only Kwame would be around and did the same thing there....

He was.. maybe... but the foul is not just arguably there but on the swipe aswell... again, that is what Hubie (a legendary coach & basketball mind) is talking about... and again, doesnt take away the fact that Kobe played great full court press defense.... but imagine if Kwame was not there doing what he did, it would have been a dunk for Lebron...

But he was there, because basketball has 5 people on each team... Kobe played perfect man defense, and Kwame played perfect help defense.
There was no foul. The closest thing being an offensive foul on that play.

If Kwame doubled/helped but didnt do that so called "NON FOUL" then Lebron would have dropped it of to Z for a put in/shot considering Kwame left Z or he would kicked it out to one of the shooters... and Kwame knew it... there is a reason Kwame did that "NON FOUL"....

We are kindof derailing the thread aswell lol....

He didn't foul him. End of story. Hubie gets caught in the act more than any other commentator. He sees a lot of shit, but he says a lot of shit too, then tries to justify it.
Nothing happened on that play. No foul. Just great defense.

Xman was a good all around player....

definitely NOT a lockdown defender though from what I remember

most of what I saw from him was in his knick days...past his prime though so I can't say for sure..but tough guy rep obscures whatever else he may have been

Thomas was a decent post defender....very good defensive instincts and solid lower body....couldn't budge or back him down in the post.....seen him do good spot work on Shaq a few times
