Rookie could end up starting for the Thunder

Adams has been really impressive in the preseason and he has been finishing off passes from Durant and playing some solid defense.

Here's a good read;

I agree.

This Adams guy is no chump either. His advantages over Perkins are that he can finish the ball with good hands, athletic, can be active on the offensive boards and he's more mobile.

Makes sense to give him the start. Don't punish a rookie for being young. If he's better and provides more impact get him out there.

Another advantage is hes taller than Perk. But what does that say for Perkins that Durant wants a rookie to start over him.

I really feel Perkins cost the Thunder a championship in 2012. His inability to stay with Bosh really hurt them. Hes better suited defending true low post players. If this guy is as athletic as they say and capable of doing damage on the boards, h combined with Collison and Ibaka are gonna be trouble.

I like what I've seen from him.

We've been so inept at the position for so long a guy like Steven ****ing Adams can walk in and resemble God himself.

Dude is a straight up nerd. Guy will fit right in.

He's in over his head if he thinks he's going to own the night life in OKC... he'll get shit on and realize that basketball is the only thing he's got. I like that.

Shouldn't that blame be better placed on the coach for not realizing the match up issue or better yet, shouldn't credit be given to the Heat coach for abusing this weakness?

Adams also has an enormous head. Probably the biggest in the NBA. It impedes the offensive player's vision, gives a more noticeable target on offense, as well as bigger head = bigger brain. Obviously. With that head size, he has the capacity to contain the most basketball IQ in the world.

And that was an article from before OKC's game last night when Adams went for 10 points and 15 rebounds. He needed just 21 minutes to get the double-double, too. He's looked really good so far, but it is the preseason so I'm not getting my hopes up too much quite yet. I'd be shocked if Perkins isn't our opening night starter.

What makes you think he's a nerd? The guy is a rough tongan dude that would try and break your neck if you started talking shit. He grew up in a town in NZ that is roughy 1/10th the size of OKC.... Why would he try an own the nightife? lol

I would slow down your expectations. Pelicans have one of the softer frontcourts in the league.

I questioned the pick at first, but people questioned the Westbrook and Harden picks too, so I think it's safe to say they know what they're doing in terms of drafting.

Now it's up to Scott Brooks to not be an idiot.

THe thing with Perkins is that he's good to have because there are some true post players in the league like Dwight, Bynum (when he plays), Gasol etc and he's above average in post defense. But he shouldn't start because those true centers are on the brink of extinction too. Right now you need fast defenders on the center position because there are not a lot of post players.

You guys are giving Scott Brooks too much credit. There is no way that he takes Perkins out of the starting lineup. He would be useless as a bench player. He doesn't give you energy. He does the opposite.

Not really. The only reason why Perk was good against Howard was the fact that Howard couldn't get in deep position with Perk's rock stature. Once Dwight got a better touch around the low post, Perk was no longer effective against him. Skill was what beat Perk. Bogut on the Bucks regularly destroyed him.

He got handed opportunities on silver platters by the Big 3 and then Rondo, that's why.

He's been getting handed silver platter opportunities by Westbrook and Durant the last couple of years, yet he's still not sniffing 10 PPG on 50% shooting. The absurd number of easy, wide-open shots he gets because of Russ and KD, and proceeds to blow, is hands down the most frustrating part of being an OKC fan.

I'm curious to know what Adam's game is like. In all honesty Collison should have replaced Perkins in the starting lineup, but Scoot Brooks happened.

can't say for sure why he is doing much worse converting, but here some thoughts:
Perk regressed somehow. Not sure how though considering that in Boston, he took 3 seconds to wind up for a simple lay up. Perk blew quite a bit of freebies because the defense recovered. He looks much lighter in OKC.
The Celtics had a better suited offense for Perk. Celtics had a very pass oriented offense along with 4 great passers in the Big 4. To couple with that, they had great spacing considering Rondo and Pierce were the other two who entered the paint the most and Rondo didn't even score as frequently.

Wow. It's like you are in my brain thinking the same shit I am.

KD should of had 6 assists a game last year if Perkins didn't blow so much.

Scott Brooks is holding this team back way too much. This is becoming less the fault of Porkins and more the fault of Brooks trotting this garbage out on the floor every game. This shit has gone on for 2 years now and he's still starting when we have a young, talented rookie playing much better.

Just retarded. You don't start a guy only good at low post defense and shit at everything else. There are only like 4-5 true post players in the NBA today regardless. Just retarded

And there was I, thinking that OKC blew it by not picking Olynyk. If Adams really becomes all that he could be, Presti will go down in legend for his picking skills.

I didn't like the Adams pick much either. Then you look at Durant, Ibaka, Westbrook, Harden, and Reggie Jackson... Literally every player they have taken for THEIR team other than PJ3 has contributed in a big way to since the Durant class. Unless basketball reference is off, since I'm using that as my guide. Either way that's impressive scouting.

Of course, maybe Jones doesn't pan out and that's the start of a new pattern of bust picks. All things come to an end.

If he had played the 4th he probably flirts with another double-double. Don't know if he would've gotten 10 points but he might've ended up with 12+ rebounds.

Didn't OKC trade up to a higher draft pick to get Adams? Some smart talent scouts in the OKC organisation...

Who knows, but his game does translate to double/doubles with starter minutes.

He can do everything Perkins can pretty much and more...Good hands for a big guy and very mobile...

I don't know where this "low post defender" rep is still coming from. He used to be decent on guys like Howard and Bynum just bodying them up and giving the help D the extra second to get there, but ever since he's dropped weight he can't even do that anymore. And he didn't even get any more mobile :confusedshrug:
