Does Kobe do better against Dumars than MJ does against Bowen?

Bowen would get in foul trouble vs MJ. I think Dumars would be tougher on Kobe.

under what rules?

Either way, Kobe shoots too many jumpers.

There's no way Bowen can stay in front of MJ regardless of rules. Shit, old MJ was giving Bowen trouble.

Dumars get smoked by Kobe.

MJ would fair the same as Kobe against Bowen.

Stop your lying.

MJ played the Spurs 3 times with the Wizards and he didn't go off in any of those games.

As a matter of fact he shot 40%, 46% and 23%.

I doubt Bowen even covered a fat MJ. Pop would be wasting Bowen's talent on fat MJ. Probably had someone guard MJ.

Bowen was the better defender but mj was just too good, very much a tier or two above Kobe, though Kobe is very good player mj is great :)

He had someone guard MJ? That's a bold statement right there.

Kobe against a prehistoric player > MJ against one of the best modern day perimeter defenders

People forget that Dumars was a prolific scorer and Kobe would get tired defending him which would take it's toll on the offensive end.

Bowen was a simple spot un shooter, so MJ would not have to exert himself that much.

Bruce Bowen said the most difficult player he ever had to guard was Jordan. This was in the mid to late 2000s he said this too. Let that soak in for a moment, and take into account the elderly versions of Mike that Bowen faced. Never seeing prime / peak Jordan. Dumars on a side note was a better defender, and a 20+ ppg caliber combo guard. More difficult on both sides of the ball.

Dumars AND Rodman to be straight here, with Laimbeer, Mahorn and them to kick your ass in the paint, also.

At their best, I think it's a wash when comparing those two in terms of overall defense, Joey D was a clean player though, Bowen was dirty like some other of the Bad Boys. But Dumars was head-n-shoulders above as an offensive player, made you work much more.

How about Sidney Moncrief (before injuries) or Michael Cooper though? With everyone at their best, those two were better defenders than Dumars. Any of those 2 will put the ****ing clamps on prime Kobe, like never before.

dumars and bowen are good defenders but both over rated

think tyshaun prince was one of the under rated perimeter defenders of modern era

instincts, foot speed, and wingspan

both kobe and jordan would light him up.... but Jordan would have the easier go

prime GP is your best bet of halfway being able to contain mj or kobe

Bruce... Who was the toughest player you've ever had to guard? Thanks!

Bruce Bowen (3:08 PM)

Michael Jordan. He really had an infectious personality with his teammates. He gave guys courage when they wouldn't have had it.

Even the best of defenders(Starks, Harper, Dumars) were still giving up 25 points to MJ. Bowen may be able to keep MJ for going off for 40+, but he's still scoring his normal points. Much better chance of Kobe struggling against Dumars than MJ struggling against Bowen.

But ... But ...

I swear to god people on ISH told me MJ was selfish, a terrible leader, and a big meanie poop asshole.

Side note, did Bowen even face pre Wizard "Floor Jordan"? Like, MJ at any ages younger than 38 1/2 years old?

Yes. 4 times in the 1997-98 season.

So he faced 35, 38, 39, and 40 year old MJ ... and this was his decision? #speaksvolumes

Jordan would routinely drop 30+ on Bowen

Michael and Kobe are two of the greatest 1v1 offensive players this league has ever seen. Taking into context what a senior-citizen Jordan was able to do against Bowen mentally, lord knows what a Prime Jordan could do. And I say this not to diminish Bowen's reputation as one of the greatest perimeter defenders of all time, but to illustrate just how dangerous Michael Jordan with a basketball really is.

I think Dumars would do a great job against Kobe in the post...he was a pretty strong cat. I also think Dumars was the more spry of the two defenders, which could make driving the lane a little difficult for Kobe. However, Kobe's range should be noted as well. I could see a lot of jab-step, three pointers in this scenario.

Long story short, both would fare relatively well against their opponents. Both are offensive maestros and will always put up buckets. Point blank, period.
