In Doc case, he wants to get the team ready right out of the gate....no issues with that.

Why are you asking what is he thinking? Are you a NBA coach? Have you won a anything in life like a Finals?

Some coaches where gradually decrease a starters minutes in the pre-season and give them a slight rest at the end for the regular season. Other coaches will gradually increase their minutes towards the end.

Have you been following the Clippers preseason? Sure they played a lot in this game. They sat out one or two games. They let the bench guys play a whole game. It's all experimentation in the preseason. This game was like a regular season game. The Nuggets gave their all.

The thing is, it's probably not a good idea to 'give your all' in the preseason. For a team like the Clippers, the season may last 90, even 100 games, and resources should be managed accordingly. I'm sure Chris Paul will come to play in the playoffs, but taking precautions is necessary.
