Nobody on earth can make 5-6 syllable rhymes constantly off the top of their head. Eminem CAN freestyle and he did in his early years (check out the word game with Paul Rosenberg).

The only rappers I know that can legit freestyle off the top with no writtens and still be good nowadays are Brother Ali, Charles Hamilton, Chance the Rapper, Talib Kweli, Mistah FAB. Might be a couple more, but not many.

Legit freestyling is so much harder than the casual hip hop fan thinks.

Supernatural is great. Set the world record for freestyling like 24 hours straight or something. Ridiculous. Charles Hamilton is one of those rare instances where he doesn't fall off at all between written and freestyle. Some even say his freestyle is better than his writtens because he's flowing to what sounds good rather than trying to fit every rhyming word in the dictionary in and forcing puns/similes.

About 95% of radio freestyles are some of their best written shit because they want to showcase their skills to the audience, and if they aren't a great freestyler, they don't want to risk losing fans or tarnishing their own image by spitting sub-par shit.

They use writtens that they don't put out.
