View Full Version : if only the basketball hall of fame was as elite as the baseball HOF

then i could take it seriously

for instance

pau gasol is supposedly a lock for the hall of fame.

hes nearing the end of his career and he's only scored 15,000 points

only 4 reserve allstar selections

only 1 second team all nba

only 2 third team all nba's

his biggest success is

- 2 championships as 2nd best player ( with around 10+ less ppg than the #1 option on his team )

- 2 olympic silver medals

----------------------------------------------------

compare this to a guy who can't make the baseball hall of fame even after 40 years and 15 votes before they gave up on him

1974 BBWAA (21.4%)
1975 BBWAA (19.3%)
1976 BBWAA (22.4%)
1977 BBWAA (21.4%)
1978 BBWAA (21.9%)
1979 BBWAA (29.4%)
1980 BBWAA (28.8%)
1981 BBWAA (23.4%)
1982 BBWAA (16.6%)
1983 BBWAA (18.4%)
1984 BBWAA (26.6%)
1985 BBWAA (32.4%)
1986 BBWAA (41.6%)
1987 BBWAA (42.6%)
1988 BBWAA (43.1%)

he's a 2 time MVP

he's a 3 time world champion

( was his teams best player for 2 of them. no award at the time )

so basically a 2 time world series MVP

4 time allstar

silver slugger

gold glove

homerun champion

2 time rbi champion

slugging% leader

oh yea... and he broke babe ruth's single season record for homeruns with 60. which is still technically the clean record since the only guys who passed him have admitted or been linked to steroids

the reason he's not in the hall of fame is because they say he didnt have a ton of great seasons..

well... neither has gasol... his prime was 2008-2010.. he choked his entire life before that. and fell off the map after that.

yet hes a lock..?

gasol > roger maris?

:facepalm

His contribution to Spain's national team is what gets him over the line to the HoF.

I wouldn't say he is a lock, but he will get there in my opinion.

its the only one where either

a) the united states competes in

or

b) the united states sends their best players

all competition winners in which 95% of the worlds best players arnt in doesnt constitute as a legit accomplishment

You know that the Hall of Fame it's not only about in court performances right? There's several others categories that you have to include to be inducted to that restricted group.

But oh well, coming for a Kobe a fan.. it's nothing that i wasn't expecting.

its almost like a handicap or feminine way of acceptance into the hall of fame

if your even just in the nba. that pretty much guarantees you a spot on any national team outside of the united states

thats not an accomplishment

if the last pick of the nba draft was spanish. he'd find a way onto spains national team even if he never played a minute in the nba

so its not like gasols extensive playing time on a foreign national team is anything special

I can see that you don't watch that international competitions besides USA games.
Pau has been for years selected to the Best 5 players in those competitions at the 5 position, anchoring Spain (with Navarro's help) to great performances for their country.

And yea guys like Slava Kravtsov, DJ Mbenga, Dan Gadzuric and other powerful players will be completely on the Hall of Fame poll just because they are foreigns who were in NBA rosters

this is my point.. if a 2 year prime and 2nd leading role is hall of fame

then why isnt roger maris in the baseball hall of fame?

unlike gasol. instead of being a top 15 player in his prime. maris was the #1 overall player

and unike gasol. he set records and won titles as the mvp of the team and the league

his prime also lasted 4 years. and they say that isnt long enough. so why is gasols 3 year prime worthy of the hall of fame when its so vastly inferior in comparison

baseball HOF >>>>>>>>>>>>>> basketball HOF

(I don't know jack about baseball) but:
- How did Roger Maris contributed to expand MLB around the world?
- How many world series (is that the international competitions right?) won Roger Maris or was the top performer?
- How can you compare the international relevance of baseball with basketball around the world?

Gasol won 2 rings while averaging 19/11/3 - 61 TS% and was an all-star caliber player for most of his career.

You're a Laker fan right? Why are you arguing against him potentially making the HOF? Do you know how many teams would kill to have a player like Pau be their 2nd best player? I wish Chris Paul played with a 2nd option like Pau in the playoffs.

vince carter brought fan support from canada... and turned out guys like wiggins and bennett because of the inspiration

is he a hall of famer?

no... and his career stats/prime are way better and he has twice as many allstar games

but to answer your question. the world series is the mlb championship. its not an international competition. infact the world series is currently being played between boston and st louis

but anyway... i guess if theres a golf handicap placed on international players for special treatment. i guess i'l have to deal with it

i know its the basketball hall of fame and not the nba hall of fame. so i guess if i personally want to make the HOF.. i guess i could suit up for team canada.. lose a bunch of times... and inspire some hockey fans to shoot some hoops

singular accomplishments within a 2 year span while not even being the main reason for them is not a hall of fame gimmy

hall of fame is about careers

if a rookie came into the league and dropped 101 points.. won a title and had 10 seasons of crap after that. he wouldnt make the hall of fame

Gasol is a HOF lock and the real 09 and 10 finals MVP get over it. Kobe "first round loser" Bryant should be thankful for that rigged trade.

Why did Pau have to be the main reason his team won to make the HOF? What were the Lakers doing in the years before Pau got there? Nothing. They didn't win SH!T. What happened after he joined the Lakers?

He was clearly making a HOF-level impact on those teams. That's all that matters.

Why not have an NBA HoF instead of a basketball HoF? Those international players are cramping the style of the HoF'ers of the most elite league in the world. But even still some of the guys in the NBA HoF are questionable or borderline guys.

classic type of idiot fan.

a player lover ( in this case a kobe dick eater ) before team lover bashing a guy that outplayed his favourite guy in the most important game of their love * game 7 vs boston*

what an embarassment and arogant piece of shit that thinks all goes around kobe and doesn't realise that basketball doesn't only mean nba, lakers and kobe.

i used to love gasol. until idiots started clamoring together in a circle jerk to overrate gasol to the point of saying hes a legendary finals mvp who carried kobe and is a 1st ballot hall of famer when reggie miller and dennis rodman were 2nd ballot themselves

now i hate the f*ckin Spaniard

:lol

atleast us kobe fans are a bit more realistic with our historical rankings

kobes top 6-7 all time at best... top 8-10 all time at worst

gasol is a borderline hall of famer that shouldnt make it as an nba player. but instead a contributor to the game of basketball through international contributions. if he goes in it should be the same as yao ming got elected

thats an honest fair assessment. because i actually have a sense of decency

Somehow you are unable of even making a decent resume of his career.

Add to those acoomplishment, Rookie of the year, lead a very poor grizzlies team to their first PO in a very stacked west conference. World champion and twice Europe champion, best scorer in Athens and Pekin olympics, MVP of several international tournaments... In fact form 2007 to 2010 Gasol's team (Lakers and Spain) have played every single final possible losing only two of them... coincidence?

Considering he's being playing the same position as Duncan, Nowitzki or Garnette, all of them considered to be among the top PF of all time , I really think 4 All-star and a few second/third all nba teams is already quite an acoomplishment.

But is the Roger Marris situation the norm for Major League Baseball? He was hated on many times for breaking Ruth's record. But are other players with similar stats not getting in the baseball hall of fame? I really don't know because I don't watch baseball, but you can't just pick one player as an example.

Edit: Never mind. Didn't realize that the OP was Kenneth with his agenda of putting down every player that ever played for the Lakers in order to make Kobe look better.
