Kobe shut down Ivo when the moment called for it.. Kobe also shut down Rondo, Westbrook, TP, etc. Lebron also killed Tony last Finals..

Why didn't Young Jordan stop the dominant Isiah Thomas? :confusedshrug:

I think he's talking about AI in Denver in a game where AI seemingly couldn't miss... until Kobe switched onto him and he barely scored anything after that.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200712050DEN.html

I believe this was the game. AI was torching Fish and Farmar... dropped 49 on them in 3 quarters.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/pbp/200712050DEN.html

Check out the recap, Kobe switched onto AI in the 4th and shut him down. AI scored 2 pts in the 4th, including blocking a 3 by AI.

Err, he did, a few times actually (though mostly for quarters or halves, but the game below he was on him the majority of the time). Here's one such games:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/198905270CHI.html

2-8 FG, 5 points. Isiah couldn't do anything when MJ was on him that game - Jordan really limited his penetration; the majority of Isiah's assists came off of good off-ball movement by the Piston wings (Dumars and VJ). And Jordan did this job defensively despite having 46 pts/7 reb/5 ast/5 stl and the game-winning shot over Rodman and Isiah.

MJ, Kobe, and LeBron are all terrific defenders. And I've seen them all shut down great, dynamic opposing offensive threats. In the playoffs or otherwise.

Agreed. Plus watching 34 year old MJ lock up Rod Strickland in the '97 playoffs v.s. the Bullets. They took that one down as well. Or on the possessions he guarded Iverson in '97 and '98 giving the kid absolute fits. Iverson even commented on when he gave him his best move with that crossover, MJ still almost recovered and blocked his shot.

Then you don't remember shit. Early on in their careers together, MJ was the guy who floated around on defense, which Doug Collins compared MJ to a free safety.

And there's plenty of videos on YouTube of MJ shutting down guys, like

Because he didn't shut him down. Iverson did his usual 30+ PPG on low 40s FG%. Kobe had no effect on Iversons normal output.

You'd think you could shoot better than 20% with all of the defense focused on Shaq.

Yup. Losing in playoffs with HCA is developing your own identity. Getting swept out of the finals is developing your own identity. Losing in the finals as heavy favorites, is developing your own identity. Going 2-2 in the finals with more losses than wins, is developing your own identity.

Kobe's 2000, 2001, 2004, 2008, and 2010

LeBron's 2007, 2011, and 2013

What's the difference? All were shitty Finals performances.

Lebron in 2013 averaged 25-11-7 on 45 fg% with good D but yes that shitty because he did not average 30 ppg :oldlol: He was great in 2013. Get over it.

Lebron in 2011 was subpar for himself at 17-7-7 on 48% fg but that's still better than most of Kobe's finals

Lebron in 2007 doesn't mean anything. They had no business being in the finals with that weak cast. It's wayyyyyyy better to lose in the finals than in the first round, something MJ did 3 times while Lebron has never lost in the first round.

A better question would be why was Kobe guarding Rondo when Ray Allen was putting up better numbers in the Finals than the regular season and also doing things like helping the Celtics come back from a 24-point first half deficit on the road.

And why did Rip Hamilton's stats go up when the Lakers lost to the Pistons in the Finals even with Kobe guarding him. Can Kobe not defend pretty good shooting guards who probably won't be in the HOF?

Things to think about. GO TEAM.

 This is what people are missing. Isiah is one of the greatest PG's of all time. Plus if Jordan would've guarded him, then Joe D would've brought the ball up the court and then who would've guarded him? He couldn't guard them all. Those Pistons teams were just deeper and better overall rosters than the Bulls were for those years they won the titles. Once the Bulls had the better roster and the Pistons got a bit older the rivalry was pretty much done.

I can remember Iverson's 51, 48, 41,40 and others against Lakers. Iverson was going for finals record so P.Jackson even try to use Tyron Lue on Iverson.

Kobe couldn't guard Iverson at all. Noone could in his prime. He was too fast for bigger guards, too skilled for smaller guards.
