Damn those ratings for the games 6 and 7
On Mike and Mike this morning they stated that according to research the NBA today is more popular than it's been since 1998 (MJ's last season with the Bulls.)

I believe it. The LeBron era is the 2nd or 3rd most popular era in modern NBA history.
Would love to see what he Bird/Magic era looked like in comparison to the LeBron era.

Even if it's ASSumed you're right, you think baseball doesn't have doping scandals?

No sh*t.
Basketball is a better sport.
Now imagine what these ratings would be if there was no such thing as race and everyone was the same color. And no, i'm not complaining... sometimes people are drawn to become fans of people that they can relate to and there is no problem with that (well, sometimes it is more than that though).

Yeah basketball still has that thug image with many people I know, and these same people love NFL that seems to have as many if not more psychos.

Exactly, you have Joe Buck implying it about Papi :oldlol:
I am rooting for the Sox, because I hate the Yankees... but their fans have been bitching non-stop on sports radio for the past week about Papi and how he's on roids. Well, they weren't speaking much about it in the ALCS when he wasn't doing much, but all of a sudden it's picking up legs. Salty Yankee fans :facepalm

Its interesting that the NBA is in the mist of another great run without a highly marketable white super-star.
And agreed. Its not always racism. If sports fans based everything on race, hockey would be a dominant sport. But it is not. Hockey is a niche sport that gets squashed on the National stage by the NBA, even though its overwhelmingly white.
Today the NBA is the second most popular sport in the country trailing only football.

The NBA Finals defeated the World Series in TV ratings. The NBA Finals outdrew the World Series for every game of each leagues championship series. The NBA had a larger and younger audience for its playoffs than did Major League Baseball.

Internationally, maybe one day. But just in America? Never.

Baseball isn't as widespread as basketball I feel. It is in other countries like Japan, but the US isn't seen as the dominant idol like the US is in basketball. Plus the deep love/hate of Lebron draws many.

NBA finals will never beat Super Bowl internationally.
In Asia obviously the finals are bigger, but in Europe the Super Bowl is becomming big. Even people who dont care about the sport, watch the SB.

In USA maybe, NFL outside is even less popular than Baseball actually. :)
NBA is the most popular outside, followed by NHL or MLB.
I have still not met a guy in Europe who cares for American Football.

True but in my college, I'm friends with a kid from Norway who's a hardcore NFL/Vikings fan :lol
He told me its a very niche thing outside the States though

OT: I find myself watching football less and less each season. Only watch games for my college and pro teams, and the occasional playoff matchup. Maybe I'm just growing out of it?

Implying that this is an impressive feat when other major sports like the NFL are at an all time high in popularity right now

those baseball ratings are pretty high... it happens when 2 storied franchises meet up to decide their place in history. that being said, baseball is no longer america's past time. doesn't feel like it here in NYC.

Typical NBA just showing finals ratings. Its like judging the book by its cover. Jordans ratings were the highest but actually NBA is performing better in the 80's or when jordan retired. Clearly fans prefer parity. Lucky for stern, jordan was likable so fans can fathom the lack of parity. But once jordan retired, league has been going downhill that most of the owners taking losses. If stern wasnt a dumbass, NBA would have been on the same league as NFL.
