There are lots of American cuisine, South America has some of the best and North America too.

Care to elaborate?
Sure, from Wikipedia:
General Tso's chicken (sometimes Governor Tso's chicken, General Gau's chicken, General Tao's chicken, General Tsao's chicken, General Tong's chicken, General Tang's chicken, General Cho's chicken, General Chau's chicken, or simply General's Chicken) is a sweet, slightly spicy, deep-fried chicken dish that is popularly served in North American Chinese restaurants. The dish was unknown in China and other lands home to the Chinese diaspora before it was introduced by chefs returning from the United States.[1]
The dish is reported to have been introduced to New York City in the early 1970s

The hamburger as we know it today, with the way it is prepared and served is certainly an American invention.
Perhaps 400 years ago some guy in germany put cooked mince meat between two slices of bread-but that is not the American hamburger that is consumed by the million all over the world on a daily basis.

That photo is prime rib.
The US is a country of immigrants so the cooking styles are variations from other countries. Each region has their own specialties. Here in the South, and especially in the low country the cuisine consists of local ingredients with the cooking style influenced by primarily European, African and Caribbean cuisine.
World War II basically destroyed American cuisine imo. The food industry by necessity had to go into mass production in order to provide canned and dried goods for the troops. After the war this processed food was marketed to consumers and an entire generation of shitty cooks using bland, processed ingredients was born.
Starting in California in the 1970s a new movement came about, at least amongst high end chefs, to get back to using fresh, local ingredients in creative ways. This idea is what drives most American chefs nowadays and there is some very good, creative stuff being prepared every day from high end eateries down to food trucks. Great food, beer, wine and spirits are flourishing here. It's a great time to be alive imo.

As much is 9erempire thinks he is trolling, he is actually right. Fast food is the quintessential American food and it is enjoyed unadulterated all over the world.
Most other cross-cultural food loses it's shine when it crosses border. Chinese food outside of China is almost always a disgusting fusion mess made to appease the local taste. Or look at the atrocious things people do to pasta or pizza outside of Italy. However, US fast food is popular everywhere in it's original form, it tastes the same everywhere.
It might not be the legacy food snobs would like to have, but it is the US legacy when it comes to food.

Yes! Spanish explorers learned the technique from native Caribbean tribes and the technique was further enhanced by Native American practices. The current regional varieties; Eastern/Western Carolina, Memphis, Kansas City and Texas
differ in the cuts of meat, seasoning and sauces, but the general technique of slow roasting with hard wood coals remains the same.

Fast food existed for hundreds and hundreds of years before America existed in Europe and Asia. In 1600s London they used to have 24 hour pie shops with "drive ins" where you can order and pick up your food by horse or carriage.
Also, what we did to pizza was made it better. In Italy pizza is like crackly bread with olive oil and like 2 pieces of cheese and spinach. We turned it in to a masterpiece

Actually the Europeans are getting in the act too. The great haute cuisine palaces still exist in Paris but there is a strong trend toward modern and *gasp* affordable fare being created by young chefs that were trained in the old school. Spain in particular has been at the forefront of some the new trends.

Don't forget you're talking to NickYoung. He's not posting to determine which foods actually originated in the U.S., but to project the success of U.S.-exported foods onto his own sense of self worth. Just look at his useless talk about "we perfected it". He didn't perfect sh*t, but takes pride in the achievements of complete strangers. So in short, he's an idiot. Simple minded dude.
Anyway, legit chinese food is something I never got into, it's just too spicy for me. Probably awesome if you can tolerate it, but I can't, lol. So I prefer the western emulation, which is a joke for guys really into cooking, but it works for me.

You serious? I cannot eat spicy food, and I grew up in HK with loads of Chinese food. Chinese food has a much wider range than you think, the spicy one is usually norther or Sichuan, the oily ones are the Cantonese food, and a whole spectrum of other kinds (although not that much fried food now that I think of it).

We area actually the best at cooking steaks because we are the #1 cattle industry in the world.
Being that the USA is so big we can have huge cattle farms. Don't expect other nations to have a cattle industry expected to feed their entire country.
Funny thing is steaks are so damn easy to cook.
Let steaks warm up to room temperature. Get the grill hot. Put olive oil on each side. Put salt and pepper on each side. Place on grill for 1-2 minutes each side and you're good. Should be about medium rare.

Italian pizza is like 50xx better than baked american dough and super processed bulk shredded mozzarella. Are you on glue or something?
Have you ever even had real italian pizza?
Yes.
There is a reason that one style is served all over the world and the other style is only served in Italy and Italian restaurants.

Because Americans have turned it into a fast food dish. Cheap, easy to make, bland universal taste, low standards. Quintessentially American.

Are you kidding, every country on the planet has been bbq'ing for centuries.
And Nick Young, don't show a picture of a roast with Yorkshire pudding and claim it to be American.

anything that involves corn is American
We are talking about 'murica not south america
Basically American cuisine is the bastardized (and in many cases superior imo) version of other cuisine.
Chinese american food is very different from actual chinese food.
Italian American food is very different from actual italian food
Mexican american ...
and etc.
most of what we think of as 'murican food is just bastardized german food.
Eg. Chicken fired steak = wiener schnitzel

Exactly man, I dont understand how anyone whos had real Italian style pizza can call it better then American style. They invented it, we took it to the next level and perfected it. Not to mention theres New York style and southern cali style and a billion styles all over the country that beat anything the italians do.

what i'd actually like to know is whether there's any original american cuisine that isn't a health disaster.
all that american-style pizza is pretty much the worst crap that you can eat, alongside cheesesteaks, hotdogs, all the breaded deep-fried shit, american-italian pastas and everything else i'm aware of.
no wonder this country pays more for healthcare per person than any other nation in the world. we eat too much crap food and it destroys our health over time. a pretty simple equation, but we're stubborn like that. :(

Buffalo chicken wings
Philly cheesesteak
peanut butter
corn on the cob
turkey
maple syrup
macaroni and cheese
meatloaf
buttermilk biscuits and gravy
grits
corn dogs
Chimichangas
pasta primavera
chocolate chip cookies
Reuben sandwich
apple pie
pumpkin pie
donuts
different styles of cuisine that started in America:
Tex Mex style
soul food
Cajun
These are just a few examples of American cuisine. There are many more. For you elitist Europeans, come to America, you will find more variety than anywhere else on Earth. You will also find amazing foods here that you won't find anywhere else.

That looks delicious. You know you have a good pizza when the cheese is actually melted INTO the sauce, rather than just being a thick rubbery layer on top of a layer of sauce.

Sometimes I think people think it makes them look better to prefer the "authentic" version.
Screw that...I lived 18 months in the US and over 2yrs now in Italy. You cannot compare US pizza to real Italian one. US pizza - like most of their food - is just a full blown assault on your tastebuds...too much salt, too much cheese, too much fat...too much everything. It's just the junkie version of satisfaction: quick and rapid pleasure without the longlasting taste that can hover in your mouth after every bite that you can get from a real cuisine.
Italian food with plain but high quality ingredients just has nuances of taste that you will never taste in an american pizza. The problem with US food is just that when you grow up on this kind of "food exposure"...with too much sugar, too much crap put into it...other stuff just tastes bland to you. I had that when I came back from the US, all the jams in Europe just tasted like nothing to me because I was getting so used to the high sugar, oversweet jams you find in US supermarkets. After a while though, this goes away again if you start eating good food and you suddenly realize taste differences in little things that you never tasted before and appreciate them. It's a bit like in this standup from Luois CK:
http://www.aoltv.com/2011/01/10/louis-c-k-says-were-feeding-our-kids-insanity-and-then-wonderi/
That being said, food in middle to high class US restaurants is just amazing and competes with the best in the world easily!

what do you think of gourmet american brick oven pizza... you know, where the pizza is thin - medium, very fresh ingredients are used, and it's only baked for about four minutes at super-high heat?
there aren't many places in the US like that, but the ones that do exist are levels above other american pizzas IMO. you get a freshness that's just amazing.

Yeah, what he said. That is the definition of Italian pizza.
Though even there in that realm there are big differences (like the Napoli area where the pizza dough is a bit thicker and has a "rubbery" feel to it....very good!)

Shit's burned bro
Yes. That's a good thing.
You need to bring a pizza to temperature to cook the cheese and the crust properly. The places where it scorches are usually an air bubble in the crust, where the dough beomes thinner. The top of air bubble burns, but the crust below is not. If you judge when the pizza is ready by those parts rather than the whole of the pie, you will get it wrong, and undercook the rest of the pizza. Undercooking is probably the number of problem of bad pizza joints. It is much better to bring the whole pizza to the right temperature and burn a few spots, than undercook a pizza to avoid some scorches.
Unless the black parts are fully carbonized, they are usually delicious
As I was typing this, a Pizza Hut stuffed crust pizza ad came on. If know how to cook pizza and are using quality ingredients, you get a flavorful crust without having to pull nonsense like stuff it with cheese.
