the beat is super cold blooded... and he just murders both verses. its extremely hard to rank nas' songs though, too many classics.

agreed it's always been my favorite. "but uhh, a thug changes, and love changes and best friend become strangers, word up"

Hungry ass hooligans stay on that piranha shit

The beat is a sample from Sting's shape of my heart which is a dope song that played in Leon the professional

My girl and I always fight about this. She says this is the best Nas song, while I prefer The World Is Yours.

I wouldnt argue against The World is yours or Ny State of Mind if someone wanted to call it the best hip hop song ever made.

Doesnt mean it is. But its not an unreasonable thing to say.

When it comes to storytelling... rewind and undying love are two of his best's.

Oh yes, yes it can, but i like the beat mostly which unfortunately is not his creation... so i will go with World is Yours or NY State of Mind.

Definitely up there. For me, I'd probably go with at least the following over it though:

Life's a Bitch
NY State of Mind
Represent
It Ain't Hard to Tell
I Gave You Power
Live ***** Rap
NY State of Mind II
Favor for a Favor
Nas is Like
Undying Love
You're Da Man
Made You Look

There's also some tracks he's featured on that I'd probably prefer over it as well such as (some of these may not be because of Nas's part but regardless I still might prefer them for whatever reason):

B EZ
Self-Conscience
Too Hot
Executive Decisions
Desperados (original)
John Blaze
Show Discipline
Ultimate High
Blood Money II

Thats 12 tracks of his and another 9 tracks he's featured on. With that said, I wouldn't argue against the Message. Its definitely lyrically better then some of those, if not most of them. That's how great the dude is. Has literally like 20 tracks that you can argue as his best.

I love Too Hot. A lot of people haven't heard that song around my way, but everyone who I play it for is really into it. Three solid ass verses.

Memory Lane is maybe the best hiphop song ever, period.

To put the greatness of "The Message" into perspective...I know every word. That's how far that song transcends simple genre conventions. I f*cking HATE hip hop music, but that is just a stone classic.
