View Full Version : What the hell is this google plus bullsh*t taking over my Youtube channel!?

Just got a notification today that I will no longer be notified when people comment on my Youtube channel because of some dumbass new "Google+" modification. These types of random annoying, unavoidable, and unwelcomed changes have been going on the past 6 months or so, 'Google +' has been f*cking up the way Youtube operates and is making the management of my channel more and more difficult    anybody else pissed and confused with what is going on or is it just me!?

Google is like big brother now. I was trying to sign up for Linkedin and they tried to import all my contacts to link me with them.

There is no getting around it. YT and Google are the same crap so be careful what videos you watch or like because it will show up on your YT profile. I wouldn't be surprised that it shows in other places too.

There is no more hiding. I find that I need multiple email addresses to filter out the crap that's going on.

I agree Google is gettin way too all up in my shit.

Gonna start avoiding anything Google related as much as I can. Youtube is really the only thing that makes it hard to avoid google altogether for me. But we'll see.

I never use Gmail for these purposes. Facebook has made the internet become real life and Google is trying to follow suit. I can't even do certain things until I sign into my YT account. In order to do that I have sign into my Google account.

All I had to do up until today was visit my Youtube Inbox to see what activity was done on my channel. This helps me prevent spam activity etc - because I catch it and remove it. It also helps me interact with my subscribers and people who leave comments. I'm very PRO-ACTIVE with my YT channel. But if you note the orange box that just popped up:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-QIoEa-XPS4c/UnrnHVOJRoI/AAAAAAAAE1A/g9IsEBi4r-4/s800/google%2520plus%2520bullshit2.jpg

Now basically what does that even mean? Does it mean I now have no f*cking way of knowing who is leaving what kind of comments, when, and where on my channel!? This is their 'explanation':

I gave all that up when my YT inbox doesn't notify me anymore. I have noticed this and stopped commenting.

Hate that you can't access pms or comments as well. Up until last week we couldn't even edit our username. You're FORCED to go to google plus account to make some changes.

They're shoving their services down our throats.

What are the other video uploading options available at the moment? I'm seriously considering moving the Wilt Chamberlain Archive to a new video upload service. One that is far less intrusive and annoying even if I have to re-upload everything by scratch and loose all my subscribers. Google plus is pissing me off that much that I don't want Youtube anymore. I keep my online basketball video channel SEPARATE from the rest of my online activity. I don't want google plus mixing everything together. I've been fighting with it to 'change to my (real life) name' from WCA ever since that dumb update came into existence too. Google is trying to link-up everything.

Yeah I have 2 Gmail/Youtube accounts too. One for personal use, the other is my Wilt Chamberlain Archive channel. But even the one for personal use I don't want connected with my name. I want NONE of it connected with my name. Google seems to think my life should be connected and unified for everyone to see publicly. Picasa has also become f*cked up in this tangled mess of multiple accounts being unified together.

Also, I don't like the way the comments are arranged right now.

Seriously guys do any of you know of an alternative to the service formerly known as 'Youtube' (now totally absorbed and trashed by Google+)

What about Vimeo? Or is that linked up to a bunch of sh*t too? I'm done with Google+/'Youtube'. The Wilt Chamberlain Archive needs a new home.

What happen to YT? Some viewers are saying that the ads don't pop up anymore and they are reluctant to make videos because they are afraid they won't get paid.

Vimeo's not linked to anything, but you might have to pay for membership depending on the size of the videos.

I am actively involved in my YT channel so comments for me are a part of the reason I have it. I'm considering activating a Vimeo at this point - so I can begin the slow process of migrating all my Youtube videos to the Vimeo. Google has ruined Youtube, straight up ruined it. I hate google now.

Vimeo in general is better.

Better quality videos, no buffering and shitty playback. YouTube has tons of features, but those features is what f*cks up the video playback.

My main argument against making Vimeo one's main video sharing service, is the lack of exposure. YouTube demolishes Vimeo and every video service when it comes to exposure.

I have a love hate relationship with YouTube.

I love the content.

I hate everything else.

Yeah, only problem is there are millions of people like me who haven't been using Youtube as some personalized dumping ground for uploads of my f*cking pets and family. I anonymously run my channel dedicated to a very specific niche topic. I don't want to craft a f*cking google plus page about Wilt Chamberlain-era basketball, I just wanted Youtube - Google plus didn't exist when I went down this road and if it did I would have never even got started. I'm about to setup a Vimeo account tonight and begin the long process of uploading WCA videos to a new home. Once it's complete - bye bye Google+. I won't be marched into the google+ gas chamber like some 'big brother' corporations mindless b*tch.

Some of us don't have time to f*ck around with crafting multiple full-blown 'profiles' in the name of Google. They are slowly disabling all of the simple Youtube functions in place of Google plus functions, which require you to go to your google plus page. Eventually - you will ONLY have a google plus page and there will be no such thing as that classic Youtube layout. The changes are all forcefully happening as we speak.

I admire the OP for standing up against YT but I don't see his efforts lasting.

YT allows viewership to come to your channel. I don't know how Vimeo can compete with YT. When it comes down to it, you want people to watch your videos and I don't think Vimeo will be that source for views.

It literally takes you a few seconds - but yeah, the old days of YT are done. After the "1 channel" BS they pulled, you knew google was gonna start wreaking havoc.

My only issue with vimeo is exposure. Not enough people and/or NBA videos there.

I don't make money on my Youtube channel - and I post most all my videos myself to people I interact with through message boards, reddit, etc. I couldn't care less about mass exposure. I'd rather be a diamond in the rough with a simple Vimeo account than some mindless sheep trying to manage 3 google plus profiles that I'm now being prompted for every time I try to upload a simple video to Youtube. I hate managing facebook as it is, for personal use, why the **** do I want a handful of other social networking nonsense? I may be an outlier here but I'm starting to get really annoyed with how involved and persistant social media 'profiles' are becoming. Managing that crap is all work IMO, and my time isn't free.

To each his own but good luck and keep those vids coming. I don't know much about Vimeo but can you comment and chat on the site.

I agree. Although I have nothing to hide but I find it sad that because of Google +, people will know what videos you liked and where you commented.

I will give you a good example, this whole week I was doing job interviews and one of the recruiters had a Google + page, after googling her. It then redirected me to her YT page and I got to screen my recruiter and see what videos she was watching...:oldlol:

After digging through her YT profile, I came to the interview confident and mentioned some things that she was interested in because of her viewing habits.

The funny thing is that people are oblivious to how YT works nor do they care. I have already made all my LIKES and Favorites as private. Some people don't even know YT works in certain ways where the videos you watch and like are open to others to see. Even your playlist.

It's pretty scary.

You guys who are content with these changes are all coming from a non-creator perspective. Creators of Youtube channels have an entirely different routine when going about their 'Youtube' business. We don't leave a comment and disappear. We upload videos and keep tabs on everything being said within the videos. Keeping track of comments under this new interface has now become next to impossible. Comments and interactivity with subscribers are part of what drives the creator. We also have to manage trolling, spam, and other unwanted activity on our videos. I'd personally rather have 10 comments in a week that I can keep track of through notifications on say, the less popular but much more straightforward Vimeo platform, than have 100 comments in an hour that I am literally not notified about.

You can try playing around it. Redirect all commenters to your blog away from YT and other Google products and let them talk there, or something similar.
I've already figured out what I'm going to do. Make all my videos on Youtube private, disable all comments, and leave 1 post on my google+ profile that says something along the lines of "Wilt Chamberlain Archive has now moved to (_New Provider_) (with a link), a video sharing provider that hasn't been ruined by pieces of sh*t from Google"

No one will be able to see my old Youtube uploads or any of their old comments. And I won't technically delete my channel, so if an emergency happens (like if the new provider ****s up bad, or if Google changes their mind and stops being so shitty) I can re-activate my old YT videos. Also, nobody can pretend to be me if my channel is still 'active'.

Why the F is OP messing around with YT.

Get your own damn website and start posting videos on it. Let YT re-route things to your site.

Put your site's address on a watermark in your videos.

You can become a Wilt historian. Stop ****king around. Don't let anyone tell you what or when you can do it.

I am chagrined.

Sidenote, can other users still comment on my videos without me having fully transferred to Google+?

Meh, I will miss the fun of YT comment posting but watching should be good enough.I appreciate the response. However, to clarify, I meant if I upload a video, can other people still comment on it even if the uploaded (me) has not fully crossed over to Google+?

You might just need to learn how the new system works before you toss it all out.

Try creating a google plus community for your youtube channel. As the community owner you can moderate the posts just like in youtube, invite thise you want to be part of it, remove the trolls for good etc etc etc

All sorts of ways you can build up your "fanbase" you can keep it private but do mass invites to the public so they have to join your community to see the vids.. that gives you the greatest control over things.
