If B roy was at that level right now, would he be a better 2 guard than Harden?
I love me some B-Roy... Clutch! his voice doe.. LOL

I'd say in his peak/prime Brandon Roy was just a little better as a player and leader. But Harden has a lot of time to reach that level and exceed it.

This. Roy stepped it up in the playoffs though, something we have yet to see from Harden. But as iamgine just said, Harden is young and has a lot of time

I always think if Roy and Oden had healthy knees what the Blazers would be today.

Sucks for Roy he would've been the best shooting guard if not for his bum knees.

As a Blazers fan I'm pretty biased, but I would definitely take Roy over Harden. Roy had great leadership, was a better defender and took his time on offense. Harden is a better pure scorer and has more range.

Its Harden, and pretty comfortably.
People love living in the past. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing.
Harden's a better shooter, scorer, passer, shot maker, free throw shooter, etc.
Hes also bigger and stronger, and on top of all that a better athlete.

Thanks, I was just thinking that there was a point where people were predicting that B roy would overtake Kobe and D wade, just like they're saying now with Harden

Roy averaged 23\5\5 on good defense and led his team to a 55-27 record I believe in 2008-2009. Which is better than Harden has showed us just yet.

He is bigger and stronger, also lazier and fatter. Not a better shooter, scorer, passer, shot maker, defender and has a much lower bbiq.
I honestly disagree with almost everything you said..

Harden was really clutch in 2012 against the Spurs during their finals run and had a solid playoffs before the finals. Roy has never had the same playoffs success as Harden.

-It's debateable. Comfortably very likely suggests you see Harden in the same light as Durant and LeBron, or CP3. Or you think Roy was merely nothing more than a role player. I would strongly argue against either of those assertions.
People love living in the past. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing.
-No argument here.
Harden's a better shooter, scorer, passer, shot maker, free throw shooter, etc.
-Harden is a better shooter.
-Better scorer? Harden's game is basically 3 or get to the rim. Roy had one of the more diverse offensive games in the league, including arguably the best midrange game of any guard, and yes I realize peak Kobe played during that time.
-Passing is equal, imo. Roy played a similar role to what Harden plays now and there assists total is roughly the same. Not going to do the math but I see ~4, 6, 5, 5 for Roy and 6 and currently 4 for Harden. Not sure about usage, but Roy protected the ball better as well.
-Shot maker, no. Midrange game is where you can really see someone's shot making ability and, again, Roy was one of the best. Harden is horrid in that area.
-Sure on the free throw shooting. 84% to 80% is negligible, tho. That Harden gets to the line the amount of times he does is a better argument.
-What's the etc? Roy is a better overall defensive player and I feel confident in saying leader as well. Rebounding is basically the same.
Hes also bigger and stronger, and on top of all that a better athlete.
-Actually Roy is taller and they weigh about the same. But clearly Harden has a naturally bigger frame and he is definitely stronger. I don't really consider either to be particularly great athletes, anyhow.

Pretty close, but I'd take Roy. He was just all around a better player and, outside of taking and selling contact in the lane, does everything just as well if not better than harden.

Well Roy definitely wasnt a role player lol. I remember people used to rank him above D-will and Melo during those years

Prime roy> current harden
but we haven t seen harden s prime yet
Roy was athletic.not a freak but he could jump and dunk with ease.he just had different style.he was very smooth and everything he did looked so easy.he was underrated in a sense that just because he was t a high flyer, played for Portland and having a solid not really flashy playstyle he wasn t really mentioned.he also was a solid defender and had a huge heart.too bad injuries happened
current harden either drives or takes 3pointers or long 2pointers.i think that McHale s system makes him play that way.its hard for me to imagine a guy with such a shooting stroke not being able to hit mid range shots

Better is too damn arguable since they are in the same league.
Who I would rather have? B-Roy if he's healthy. Natural leader who's just a winner with a killer instinct. Underrated athlete because his skills and fundamentals are so polished. Seems like he's more coachable too. I'd pick him in a heartbeat over Harden, but I won't say that he's a better player. Roy is just my type of player.

I'm taking Brandon Roy. Brandon Roy was a better defender and a better scorer. Harden has zero mid-range game which is something that I don't like in my primary scorer/playmaker. Roy could kill you from any spot on the floor.
I think it's close but I do think that Roy was the better player.

Roy's defensive superior >>>>>>>>>>>> Harden's offensive superiority
Roy was also a lot more versatile offensively, he had a midrange game.

Brandon Roy, he actually earned his trips to the line, knew how to play defense and was clutch in the playoffs. Can't say any of that about Harden.

I wouldn't say Harden doesn't earn his free throws, I think hes really goid at getting legitimate contact.....However, I will say that I think his game is a bit too dependent on getting to the line, and when he doesn't you can see the effect it has on his performance

Something to keep in mind, if you're just going to compare their raw averages, is how slow of a pace those Blazer teams played, and how fast of a pace the Rockets play.

Such a great crowd. Blazers didn't even have 50 points heading into the 4th. They're down, what? 20+ points? Still into the game and loud.
One day I have to make it to a game at the Rose Garden, or whatever it's called now.

I would take Roy because he was more efficient and he took care of the ball. Harden turns the ball over a lot. For how much Roy handled the ball and played, he was very good about turnovers. Skills wise, they care comparable, and Harden has bigger upside but I would take Roy all day.
