View Full Version : I can't believe millsap vs. josh smith was even a debate during the offseason...

I mean wow, I knew millsap was good, but jesus christ the difference between him being on the court and josh smith being on the court is absolutely ridiculous.

Millsap has shown more skilled play and smart decisions in 5 games than you'll see from josh smith in 40 games. Millsap HAS to be the most underrated player in the league. I bet he was shaking his head when he saw people in the media say that smith was even close to being better than him :facepalm

Millsap>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Smith.

Now if only the hawks could work on defending the 3 ball...

It still is a debate.

Smith is a much better defender/rim protector.

Millsap is off to a hot start, don't expect 20ppg on 59% FG for the season from him

Some things you can just tell through an eye test. I had to watch josh smith for years and the difference between the two is astounding. If millsap maintains even half of what he's doing right now for the rest of the season, he'd still be a better fit than josh

Offense is always more noticed than defense and Josh Smith is an excellent defender.

I don't understand how Josh Smith is so dumb offensively.

NOTE: early in the season just like Millsap's offensive stats but ATL's defensive efficiency is 24th in the league this season allowing 105.4 ppg. Last season w/ Josh Smith, ATL's defensive efficiency was 13th, allowing 97.5 ppg.

His % will come down a bit but 20 ppg is definitely realistic for him. Who else do they have? He will get his touches and he will get his shots. He wont be hand cuffed like he was in Utah.

Atlanta should just bottom out...

What's the ceiling of this team?
8-7 seed in the East? (only because the East is once again looking weak as hell at the bottom)
They could be bad too, but not bad enough to get a good chance at a high lottery pick.

Veteran signings like Millsap just kill cap space.

Atlanta needs a star!
And no, not a Josh Smith, Joe Johnson.

Smith was better for the Hawks defensively though.

The interior has been the last of the hawks' defensive problems this year

Jsmoove was versatile, could defend perimeter players as well as interior players.

Part of the reason why the Hawks could be struggling w/ perimeter defense is the lack of trust on the interior. Millsap is not a rim protector. Horford and Smith were a good tandem defensively.

They have this underrated guy named Al Horford and some Jeff Teague person.

None of which are goto scorers or potent scorers for that matter. Point is, there will be a bunch of shots to go around, esp for Milsap.

He's not going to average 20 ppg. Horford is more likely. He gets about 14 more touches per game than Millsap, in addition his 2nd chance opportunities (70% rebound rate per chance). All that being said Hawks will likely have 3 guys avg 18 than one guy avg 20+ and two avg 15.

Imo Teague/Horford/Milsap are probably the three most underrated players in there position it's a shame they don't have more talent outside these three to really do some damage.

That's a little unfair to Korver. He's been a tremendous shooter for them.

Korver is excellent but there bench outside of German Rondo is lacking and Carroll is not a starter in the NBA.

Not really of fan of Josh Smith, and I like Millsaps game as a PF more than Smiths, but did you REALLY make this thread the day after Millsap missed the game winner with freaking ANDRE MILLER guarding him in the post?

I'd agree but he's looked pretty good and now he's in the east. When your other 4 starters can score you might get away with it.

Yeah great point imo he brings what they need Carroll does but in general he's not a starter but I like him and the Hawks.

Paul Millsap could always ball, that game vs Miami where he scored like 46 points and hit like 4 3's in the last minute was insane.

2 years, 19 million for a player of his caliber - that's cap killer?
Millsap has the worst agent in the league, but the Hawks got a deal with him.

If the Nets keep sucking, the Hawks can draft a "star"

i was afraid that cat would get out of the bag when he went to Atlanta. If the Hawks can build strong team-work over the season they could get real real dangerous.

Horford isn't a potent scorer

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/horfoal01/shooting/2013/ check out this beautiful shot chart. One of the best midrange shooters in the L. He's a natural 4 and he's had to play with Josh Smith so it's held his numbers back

13.5 to 9.5. Not exactly half price there. milsap is a great player. I would tend to agree he is better than smoove.

I was going to say something similar. Horford is one of the best offensive bigs.

He's now our franchise player.

He has the worst agent in the league - that contract he signed is just terrible for his talent level. That clown needs to be fired.

I bet Cleveland and Detroit wished they had signed him instead.
