U.S.A. national anthem has to be one of the greatest songs in history. We are not talking about it being good because it's our national anthem but it would top the Billboard as well.

Which national anthem in the world does anyone in the world know word for word? Our national anthem.

Respect the Italians for singing along too.

Strictly musically speaking, to me the U.S. anthem isn't anything remarkable. Not the worst anthem out there, but far from being the best. Just not a very interesting composition in my opinion.

Some of the best, from a musical standpoint (I rarely care much about lyrics anyway):

Russia
Italy
France
Brazil

it's an old english drinking song from taverns with some bullshit lyrics replacing the original lyrics. hardly a good song and hardly original.

every time i hear it, i get embarrassed that a dipshit song like that is the national anthem, while a gorgeous song like "america the beautiful" is unofficial at best.

Even Tchaikovsky used small parts of it in his 1812 overture, although ironically.

Those are good but they don't incite emotion like the US anthem.

Everyone I talk to that are not from the USA loves our anthem.

For the music snobs. Here is the Chicago Symphony doing their rendition of this beautiful piece.

It's just majorchords with a few gracenotes. Of course it generates positive emotion. It's a cheap musical trick, doesn't make it a good composition.

Here are some I like...

Czech Republic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPTwOZWnm6E)
Really nice harmonies, and no pointless war bullshit. Like it a lot.

One thing communism did the right way were anthems. Pretty sophisticated stuff...
Soviet Union (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3IQC3HCg-w#t=64)
German Democratic Republic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWe6k1F5WKQ)

Canada (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx-cGvIFglA)
My favorite anthem musically. And a very nice arrangement there, too.

Jerusalem (Inoffical English anthem) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoV4yrxCfVg)
Why aren't they using this officially instead of God Save The Queen, which is pure crap?

I know there is a lot of bias due to national anthems but if you didn't know this was USA's anthem, it would be a hit.

Two minutes of slurred pentatonics? Yay. Don't get me wrong, both could sing very, very well in their prime. But this particular song is far from being an interesting composition. And it's particularly annoying when it gets mashed up with some forced radio friendly soul influences with female singers half-assing those clichee penta runs at the end of every other line.

No bias, I don't like my country's either.

Better than their current one for sure.

Just found this version of the Star Sprangled Banner by Aretha Franklin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SMeVhUtLEc Awesome. That's how it's done :applause:

I always loved Marvin Gaye's version, very out of the box. Aretha is a close 2nd, she could make a masterpiece out of a tv set manual.

I'm always curious how many Americans can sing all the notes of the Star Spangled banner, cause it reaches an F at the highest.

Everyone should give the Ethiopian national anthem a shot, it's REALLY powerful. Heard it years back when I saw Haile Gebresselassie kick ass on the track court.
