AMSTERDAM She couldn't resist. Singer Miley Cyrus smoked a joint on stage and twerked with a dwarf during the MTV EMAs on Sunday.

The 20-year old pop star also took home the Best Video award for her hit song "Wrecking Ball" during a show with a strong lineup of other performers including Eminem and Katy Perry.

Cyrus opened the space-themed show singing the song "We Can't Stop," while wearing a silver spandex suit and gyrating her buttocks in the move known as twerking in the general direction of her smaller female dance partner.

To the delight of the crowd in Amsterdam's Ziggo Dome, Cyrus finished the number by sticking out her tongue, the same expression she flashed repeatedly during her eyebrow-raising appearance at MTV's Video Music Awards in New York in August.

After winning the top award at the end of the show, she celebrated by demonstratively lighting up a large spliff and quickly taking a puff.

Marijuana is not legal in the Netherlands, but smokers can't be prosecuted for possessing small amounts and it is sold openly in cafes known euphemistically as "coffee shops."

Cyrus, who long ago shed her image of innocence as the child star of "Hannah Montana," has made no secret of her appreciation of Amsterdam's attractions, arriving the Friday before the show and hanging out at the Greenhouse coffee shop downtown with several other stars.

Not that I'm in the habit of defending Miley but I think that was an unfortunate wardrobe choice. The (rubber, spandex,?) material is causing that distortion. No way her ass actually looks like that.

And this must be said- I never really paid attention to this chick except very peripherally, ie, I knew she was the daughter of Mr. Achy Breaky Heart and she had a Disney show. Figured she was a no talent hack who is now resorting to acting like the worst kind of trailer trash to stay relevant after growing out of her Disney child star phase. but then someone posted her singing with the roots/Jimmy Fallon... gotta say... I was really impressed with her singing. She has a legit, strong voice. Sad that she feels she can't rely solely on her talent.

I also saw a tweet about how her VMA performance was just a disturbing juxtaposition of childhood innocence (the teddy bears) and the fame-fueled sexualization of women (her being a whore on stage). I don't necessarily believe that was her intent but it is interesting to consider.

The other ultra popular artists like Eminem or Lady Gaga aren't infatuated with making the absolute most money out of their gig.

These people seem to be conscious of credibility. Sure they want to sell big, but they also want to be taken serious. There's a balance.

Miley on the other hand wants to make as much money as possible, party like crazy, and get as much attention as she can. That's great. But she will never be a credible artist because of it. Nobody is impressed with her music or what she is doing other than misguided moron teens.

Miley made a comment that made me cringe. Said something about how she wanted everything she does from here on out to be "dope" IT HAS TO BE DOPE OR I THROW A TANTRUM. Anyone see her throw a tantrum before the VMA's? Who respects that? She's a perfectionist in the wrong way. She wants her IMAGE to be perfect.. and is going about it by targeting young dumb losers.

Call her a marketing genius... whatever. But what's the point when no one really respects you or takes you serious?
