MSU isn't even playing zone. Looks like it because no one is moving.

Not like this is their first time playing together. Practices started in September. This isn't the first time Cal has put out a bunch of new players either.

They're moving better now...

Switching and sagging everything out top equates to zone defense in that area.

Not their first time playing together obviously, don't be so dramatic.
It's a lot closer to the first time playing together than the 400th or whatever they'll be around at the end of the year.

My point was that Cal's past teams didn't look like that, meaning it had nothing to do with experience. There were three straight possessions where no one basically moved. Obviously they were shook, as after the timeout they aren't just standing there doing nothing.

What? I didn't argue that at all.

I said UK wasn't moving without the ball and it looks awful. Your reply implied it is because of their youth. I disagreed with evidence of past "new" Cal teams and that they looked different out of the timeout.

Nothing in my posts suggests I think this team is incredibly overrated and this is a repeat of last year. Which I think you were getting at in the last post with different words. I might be wrong on that. Correct me if I am.

When's the last time MSU has had a stud on the wing like Gary Harris? Please don't say Maurice Ager or Shannon Brown. lol

Heck, I should say stud in general because while Draymond was a first team all-american, he wasn't and is never gonna be more than a bench player in the NBA. Harris can legit carry this team I believe on offense without relying on teammates.

Payne is nice too. lol

Worried about only being up 12 though....let's see if they can keep it up and it starts on defense.

Gary Harris was a steal. At the time Purdue and IU were both strong teams, but he chose MSU anyways.

Izzo has made a career off of taking gritty defensive wings and making them look LIKE studs, but I agree, in terms of talent transferrable to the next level, Gary Harris is as good as we've had, at least since Morris Peterson. (lulz)

that's kind of unfair. i mean we are talking about MSU. All Izzo teams make you look a little worse with the ball, the defensive philosophy is predicated on intense ball pressure and hard rotations on defense. That's why everyone talks about Izzo's teams being gritty, it's hard to convince a guy to commit to a school knowing that they are going to be busting their asses all over the floor, hence the reason we get a lot of blue collar players.

I'd confidently take Randle over Wiggins or Parker.

Parker seems like a safe bet. Has the best handle of the group. All around good at everything and has legit SF size, always a good combo.

Wiggins never uses a left hand and handles are suspect to me. He's the best defender and most likely to be able to play the SG position. Most Marketable because of athleticism. Can't shoot a lick. He reminds me too much of Demar Derozan.

Randle already has it all + a refined post game and NBA ready size. Can play the 4 and slide to the 3. Handles are great for a forward. I'm not a fan of banking on a potential guy like Wiggins who can jump high when you have an NBA ready product in Randle right in front of you.

I realize the new rules seem to be ruining the flow of the college game; and it clearly is right now. But once teams adjust to those rules, I think the product on the court will be a much better one. NFL tackles without fouls being called didn't exactly help the flow either.

It's for the better imo. There's just going to be a readjustment period.

Horrible to watch, always been 1 hand up and 1 hand on the back. It works because you can keep your balance.
If the players can't execute this new defense they're going to have to trap all post players on the catch.

We want to watch basketball, not a two and a half hour long free throw contest.

Great win....but even though Costello looks pretty decent and the other two rotation bigs are alright, the offense is really hindered when Payne is in foul trouble. Hopefully Costello keeps on improving because he looks more ready than I thought he would be (I could have said the same thing last year tbh so I shouldn't be too surprised).

Dawson can cause havoc down low as well. If only he had the hand skills of Randle he could absolutely dominate as a 3 or 4 in college. I mean absolutely bully kids. Maybe now that he has a year under him since coming back he can work on that. He would have put up 20+ today if he was smoother.
