Memphis is ****ed.

The West is brutal, they started poorly, and their best player will be missing a lot of time...

No playoffs this year.

Could indeed be the end of their play-off hopes. They have some frontcourt depth, but depending on the length of his absence and the strength of their schedule in the meantime could indeed be.

That's actually a good thing since he won't need surgery. Should be back before the playoffs.

You realize OKC is not really a contender, right?

How long does this usually mean for time missed?

It's A VC3!!!

A grade 2 sprain normally takes several weeks to heal. I'd say he will be back after a month and at the worst, right after all-star break.

We do have the best back up C in Kosta Koufos. But he was coming off the bench playing the 4 and the 5. Ed Davis is either going to earn a nice new contract or fade into irrelevancy during this time when gasol is out.

He has been lucky, several seasons playing too many minutes for someone his size/height without a serious injury is almost a miracle. For that reason this one was somewhat predictable, hopefully He will recover soon and will not be forced to play 38+ minutes per game in the next 2 or 3 seasons.

A tweet posted just now...

Made a quick sweep through my NBA Injury Database and found 8 grade 2 MCL diagnoses. The average number of missed games was 23. #Gasol

im confused. a grade 2 mcl sprain is defined as a partial tear. grade 3 is a full tear. But Gasol has no tear at all?!?

It's time to bring back Jake Tsakalidis

Are you sure tear and sprain are the i keep finding material that says "Grade II MCL Tear" typically 3-4 weeks is needed. Which is right around Gasol's return-table.

So the season isn't loss.

This is why you should not play international ball after a deep playoff run, he's to important to be wasting him time doing that.

While Gasol is the Grizzlies best player, they can sustain a frontcourt injury much better than a backcourt injury. For instance, they'd be more f***ed in my opinion if Conley got hurt and had to miss a month or so....I think. Of course Gasol anchors a very stout defense, so this may end up being bigger than I think, but Koufos and Ed Davis are very capable backup bigs.

Yes in the lockout season. He missed 10 weeks and returned right before the playoffs. He got rolled up on by OJ Mayo though. Last year Quincy Pondexter has this injury and missed 8 weeks but was back full force and his was from Wayne Ellington running full speed and taking his knee out on a FT rebound. The fact that it's no contact and is this early in the season is a good thing. He should be back by February-ish and Koufos will be a good stopgap until he Gasol is back. They will just have to change the offense up some instead of running most things through Gasol.

International ball is probably more important to him tbh. When his career is over having a bunch of medals and being a national hero will matter more than helping a semi-good NBA team.

I don't think they can make the playoffs this year.
