View Full Version : Where do you think Evan Turner ends up?

GOBB

I think Detroit could be a possible destination.

If I'm Sixers I want a lottery pick, nothing less. Even if its top 5 protected like the Jrue Holiday deal was with NO. I'm trying to think of what teams could use him and wouldnt mind giving up their first for him.

He'll be a restricted free agent next summer. If a team wants him, they'll just sign him to an offer sheet and dare Philly to match. :confusedshrug:

You definitely arent bright. If more than one teams wants Turner why get into a bidding war only to lose out when you can bypass that entirely by making a trade for him? Follow or are you still stuck on stupid?

I dont know where Detroit ends up. They could use him. They also have a big in Greg Monroe who is a RFA. Could slide Josh to SF and go with Drummond in the middle. Evan at SF. Why did you assume me mentioning Detroit = lottery pick?

I asked where do you think Evan Turner ends up. I then said IF I were the Sixers (meaning what I would do not you guys) I would ask for a lottery pick.

NO gave up a first in this years draft for Jrue Holiday. So you were saying?

Because your post makes it sounds like Detroit = lotto pick.

Let's make these things a little less absolute so you don't get your feelings hurt: Detroit shouldn't pay Turner instead of Monroe, no one should give up a lottery pick for Turner at $9m+ a year, and New Orleans made a horrible trade last year so GMs should learn from that.

I don't know. Actually who knows at seasons end. But Hinkie didn't draft him, he didn't offer an extension, didn't even talk to his agent. If you want someone you would at least communicate?

Sorry GOBBy, not in this draft homie. Last year I'd have pulled the trigger on your top 5 protected deal in a second, even before he broke out, because I hated last years class.. Just too deep this year to hand out what in all likelihood will be the 8th pick. Again. We always get the 8th pick.

Evan is proven. You're not giving up Gary Harris for Evan Turner? Glenn Rob III? Let's be reasonable here. Evan can score he can create his own offense, he can defend and his midrange game is off and on. But it's entirely off.

Maybe.
Or maybe this is his way of sending Turner a message, to get him to fix his game.
So far it has appeared to work.

Let Turner enter free agency and set his value via the market. And send him a message about his game. The Sixers can always match if the price is right.

After his hot start he's starting to come back down to earth. He's been inconsistent the last 5 games.

I like his attitude though. I'm sure someone will offer him a big contract if he keeps up this 21/7/4 at 46% clip.

Sixers got the 6th pick plus a first rd pick in 2014 for Jrue Holiday.

You're shrewd, I'll give you that.. Dumping stock while it's high. Running the organization like I play Madden franchise mode. But I think Holiday has a higher ceiling and the ability to run a team which you won't get from Turner, who is probably overachieving a little early in the season.

Turner's trade value isn't high.
He publicly complained about the Sixers; it would be hard for another team to take him on - he'll do the same thing to them.
Also, there's no guarantee he'll sign with another team he gets traded to - the extension deadline has passed. He can just go into free agency and possibly set a high price for himself. Then his new team would be forced to either match or lose him - and of course if they lose him, they have already lost a lottery pick.
So, it would be very, very hard for the Sixers to get a lottery pick for him. Maybe top 20 protected draft pick, contingent on him re-signing.

Because he was disappointing. Was he not? #2 pick in the draft. He spent more time sulking, pouting than just going out and balling. I've always said he does things Iggy cant which is dribble, create his own offense and finish at the basket. I hated the fact he lacked range. I hated on the fact his midrange game was nonexistent. I hated the fact he said this past offseason he finally dedicated himself to working out. Never said he was a scrub.

Now that he has dedicated himself (which was in part to him being offered in trade talks and finding out no one wanted him), and has improved, why not keep him?

No one will give him max money.

Maybe 2-3 years, 6 million per season.

Turner is going to get overpaid and I wont be shocked if its max or near max money. He's not worth max. Shouldnt get offered max but who knows with teams. Whats stopping the Suns or Jazz from offering it? Unsure of Jazz cap situation so that could be a reason. He's not playing for $6mil per. I think his qualifying offer is worth more than that. Cut it out. He's making $mil per NOW.

I'm not against keeping him. If a good deal is offered I say take it. But as far as keeping him I have no problem if its the right price.

I just look at the writing on the wall. Hinkie didnt draft him. Hinkie didnt open any extension discussions whatsoever with him. Turner said he isnt concerned he is gonna get paid regardless. Just doesnt sound good. But who knows.

Deng is mad overrated. I explained why I said that: because Turner could be more than a role player. You know it took him a few years to get his feet wet at Ohio State, too. He's just slow to figure out what they want him to do.

It's hard to say (although maybe I'm wrong) that he's gotten considerably better as a player. I've not seen him do anything that was like wow never knew he could do THAT... it was just more like he finally stopped being timid.

I think Deng is a great player in terms of role-playing... and he's good enough to be a vital piece on a championship team, but if you said... starting a team right now gimme Luol Deng or Evan Turner, even when Turner was a rookie, I would take him over Deng errtim.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

But at least Favors had a good reason, in that he had Jefferson and Millsap taking away his minutes.

Turner didn't have that problem last year - they moved Iggy to open up minutes for him.

Gerald Henderson got 3 years, 18 million. But ok, let's see if some GM overpays.

1. Will there be some moron GM who overpays Turner? Possibly. That doesn't mean he deserves more than 6 million or his QO.

2. The Hawks gave that big contract to Korver when they were trying to land Dwight Howard. They were showing Howard they were willing to spend money and keep a solid roster around him. If Howard said no earlier, would Korver have gotten that deal? Maybe, maybe not.

3. The Hawks will still have a lot of cap space next year, so we will be ok. And we will have two rookies next year (our first round pick from this year plus wherever the Nets pick lands).

Your problem is that the Sixers will make the playoffs and you won't get Wiggins, Randle or Parker.

So if an NBA team operates that way, overpay a free agent as some attempt to say to a guy "Hey look, we're trying :D " knowing that guy can say "F U"? Why is it I had to explain that teams could bid on Turner services as a RFA? You know they will and you have to know a team may consider bypassing that (losing out on Turner like Hawks did Dwight) to simply make a deal for him. Not comparing Turner to Dwight but the point is made loud and clear. If teams have a liking in a 25yr old player like Turner who is displaying his skill some may consider alternatives than to simply wait for free agency then say "ah well, didnt sign next"

3. The Hawks will still have a lot of cap space next year, so we will be ok. And we will have two rookies next year (our first round pick from this year plus wherever the Nets pick lands).

And you will still have a 3pt specialist you overpaid. Welcome to the NBA, it happens.
