I love great storylines in sports. If Utah gets Jabari Parker in 2014, that'd be a great sports storyline.

let's be real though, do any players stay faithful to their religion once they hit the NBA? Not saying he won't publicly or he will leave Utah or anything but I'm sure he will be breaking a few rules.

They badly overrated the talent they had in Hayward, Kantar, Favors and Burkes and they traded away there two best players by a wide margin while making out they were better off without them......Yet the Bobcats and Hawks look better with them.
If they land a superstar in the draft than I guess it pays off but 1-14 is disgusting.

Thunder/Seattle played Durant at shooting guard, and lost a ton of games to get high draft picks.
So a Thunder fan complaining about tanking is like the pot calling the kettle black.

Good point, and I don't know the kid, but I hear he is pretty devout. So who knows. :confusedshrug: Either way, guess it doesn't matter if he lives up to the religion, right? As long as he sells jerseys and tickets and becomes a Mormon posterboy, even if only in the public eye.

I'd sooner see Durant/Rose getting into trouble than Parker.
Seriously, though, the idea of black Mormons is still hilarious to me.

They didn't trade Milsap or Big Al, they both left in free agency. (Jazz front office desperately wanted to make the 8th seed last year so they could get a few more millions in revenue and that blew up in their faces so they said **** it and went into full tank mode)

yeah true was getting a bit away from the topic with my post. He would be a major draw for that team. The NBA needs to do something about tanking but I'm not really sure what they do. A lot of the scenarios proposed have their own issues. It would change the game far to much to ever actually happen but for me I'd like to see it split into 2 leagues instead of divisions like the premier league. Bottom 2 teams relegated to division 2, top 2 teams promoted from division 2. Team won't want to finish last or else they will be relegated.

Yeah I think the relegation idea is good. But I'm not sure there's enough NBA-quality basketball talent out there to really keep it interesting?
One interesting theory was to lower the amount of playoff teams. Perhaps to 4 per Conference. Not quite sure how this would do in the NBA, but the ppl who've brought this up use the MLB and NFL as comparisons - lowering the amount of playoff teams usually (but not always) drives teams to be better immediately as it raises the competition for playoff spots. So rather than tank, they'd spend $$ on FA's? :confusedshrug: But the salary cap/luxury tax rules would have to change. Or just the salaries.
I know one of the complaints here is how some NBA teams are content w/ just being a 7 or 8 seed. In a 4-team playoff to make the Finals, that contentment wouldn't exist.
Should've hired Jeff Hornecek as a head coach. I hate how the Jazz franchise acts too much like a family and not enough like an organization. Hopefully Dennis and KOC will realize corbin is not the answer. Kanter is 21 Favors is 22 Hayward 23 Burke 21. This team has so much potential and adding Jabari/Wiggins/Smart to the mix will only insure the Jazz go back to their winning ways.

well, I still believe that no team intentionally loses. I think it was Mark Jackson himself who said of GSW in 2011-12, they just don't put out the best players in interest of the team/the players' career. But I'll play your game! I love lists!
teams confirmed to be tanking:
Utah Jazz
teams that might be tanking:
Milwaukee Bucks
teams that will be tanking by the end of the season:
Boston Celtics
New York and Brooklyn have no interest in tanking as their picks goes to Denver and Atlanta/Boston respectively. I think Orlando and Sacramento genuinely wants to build a winning mentality, so even if they suck, they'll still play their best players and try to win. The other fringe teams - Phoenix, Chicago, Washington, Cleveland, Denver, Detroit, etc etc (there's a lot, season is young) will be too far out, %-wise, of the lottery to care to increase their chances. At least I assume alot of those teams will improve by season's end or continue to play as well as they are now.
Of course, this is all pending further standings and injuries development.
I see you mentioned Phoenix, I feel they'll be tanking by the end of the year. I don't think they're a very good team.
What about Philly?

I don't know. Phoenix is really surprising, they're over .500 w/o Okafor and haven't looked awful w/o Bledsoe (saw the 2 games vs Kings and they won tonight). Maybe Hornacek is the next great NBA coach? But yeah, the roster leaves plenty to be desired. I don't see them contending for a playoff spot down the road. But again, I think they'll be too far out of a high % lottery ping pong ball to care to tank. Like, if they're 34-38 and mathematically eliminated, would them tanking the last 10 games make a difference in their %'s to steal a Top 3 spot, in their minds?
Philly, I think will have a poor record. But in the East, that's good enough to make the playoffs. I was gonna mention in the above post that the tank dynamic is way different in each conference. I suppose a team contending for the 7~8 seed in the East could also decide to tank the last dozen or so games too. :oldlol: That won't happen in the West.

Yes and Demarre. Jefferson and Foye needed to go. Mo might have been nice. Tinsley or Watson as 3rd pg I wouldn't have had a problem with either.

Corbin is the least of their problems. He's supposed to win with the crap he's had the past 3 years?

By winning you mean playoff team? Jury is still out on all those guys. Being young doesn't mean they will ever be great.
Brandon Rush needs PT ASAP.
He's playing a Derrick Rose right now.

He played shooting guard because they thought it wouldn't be as physical on his frail body.

At least 30 wins next year. A new coach, Hayward, Parker, Favors (worst case used Burke+Kanter to trade up for Parker) and 35 million in capspace will turns this around quickly.

Hayward is likely gone if he gets the kind of money that's being talked about for him.
