Earlier this morning, Rose underwent successful surgery to repair his previously torn medial meniscus in his right knee. The surgery was performed at Rush University Medical Center by Chicago Bulls head team physician Dr. Brian Cole and team physician Dr. Chuck Bush Joseph.

Rose is out for the remainder of the season. He suffered his injury in the third quarter of Chicago’s loss at Portland on Friday night.

Derrick Rose's season is over. The former MVP who missed all of last season is done for 2013-14 after surgery to repair a torn medial meniscus.

So Pacers vs Heat, best of 21 series?

I think we've seen the best of Rose, which is a shame considering he was so young. At least the organization made it clear from the start.

Derrick Rose will miss the rest of the 2013-14 season after having his torn medial meniscus repaired on Monday.
Rose's decision to repair the meniscus, rather than remove it, should help prolong his career. Dwyane Wade had his meniscus removed, for instance, and he said earlier this month, "My knee problems and the things I've dealt with started from that. That was [11] years ago and technology was different and the way you approach things was different." For the duration of this season Chicago will ask Kirk Hinrich to play heavy minutes at PG, making him a likely source of fantasy value, with Marquis Teague serving as his primary backup. ESPN says out for season, but 4-6 months. That would mean end of March to end of May. Technically that means he could come back for the playoffs. Obviously, given his track record, most would assume he'd just take the season off, but I don't know. Maybe not coming back last year, and taking almost a year and a half off and STILL getting hurt will make him think that taking that extra time off won't make a difference cause he could still get hurt regardless, and he would just be wasting another opportunity at playing basketball and competing for a title. If he shuts it down completely, this would make 3 postseasons in a row and championship opportunities he missed out on.

If the Bulls still care about trying to salvage something out of this season, there's always Kyle Lowry. That's assuming that the Raptors smarten up and tank though.

i think the news sources are assuming that hes out for the season because it was a repair. he still has a small window to come back this season. even if the official word from the front office is that rose is sitting the rest of the season, 4 months from now rose could be ready.

Got to feel for Rose, you have to wonder if he'll ever be the same player after all this. We already know he's not a quick healer.

In any case this is a good time to tank, only problem is I don't know that Thibodeau feels the same way.

He was cleared to play back last March and sat out the whole season. He's going to lose his muscle memory in this knee now and probably sit out until 2015/2016.

I'll admit that I wasn't exactly pulling for Rose after the first injury. Nothing personal or malevolent, I don't wish injuries on anyone, but I was indifferent because of my dislike for the Bulls. Now I'm rooting hard for Rose. He's a rare talent and seems like a legitimately good guy. The mental aspect will be his greatest challenge.

He'll be back 6 months after he's cleared ready to play by multiple doctors so he'll be out by about 1.5 years again. Time to trade him because he'll never be the same player mentally and physically.

Wow, most people who aren't stupidly pathetic could tell that Derrick wouldn't have been able to contribute to last year's playoffs. I mean you see things and can't put it in context. Pure common sense would tell you that if he's favored his weight 16 months later what would you think would have happened at 12 months? And you think the guy you saw this year would have been able to burden the weight to win a ring, you just don't know the game.

Let's be honest though, if your still favoring a knee 12 months, let alone 16 months, after an ACL injury something went incredibly wrong with your PT/strength program. Maybe Rose is just a slow healer, I'm not sure, but tons of athletes have come back to a high percentage of their pre-acl injury athleticism in half the time it took Rose to come back hobbled.

Maybe it wasn't his fault, but someone in the Bull's organization should be jobless if he was favoring the leg at all. It's hard to tell for me since I haven't watched every Bulls game, but that is completely unacceptable.

Most players don't play like Rose does either. And please name the players who came back to a super athletic level? Well, it is whatever it is one way or the other. While he wasn't really hobbled out there, something was definitely off. Some of it really was muscle memory, a lot of people here never went to camp (for any sport) or had an injury so they find it funny.
