One person in the comments claims to have gotten a 20/20:
20/20
Toddlers tend to paint using vivid and interesting colors that evoke basic feelings while artists use the color and strokes to create interesting juxtapositions and contrasts. When it comes to abstract expressionism, artists don't necessarily aim for what "looks good" but what generates a particular feeling they are trying to portray, thus one of the key hints is that if it looks too unified in colour or brushstrokes then it's probably a toddler piece.
For those who haven't taken to the test yet, try these guidelines.

TBH, the exact opposite for both parties is also true.
anyway very neat quiz, but kind of loaded. i have a problem with how they're only showing sections instead of whole pieces. a little section of a piece can often swing both ways.

I only got 12/20, or just slightly better than random 50/50.
But then I have no knowledge whatsoever about modern art, so maybe there is more to it than just random splashes or color, and I'm just not able to see it.
I did pretty good, after the first few, I figured out that the more it looked like a child's drawing to me the more likely it was modern art, and the better it looked the more likely it was children's drawings.
looked like some dude painted his asshole with different paint colors and then took a big shit and smeared it across the canvas. that's art today.
17/20
In two cases - Richter and Twombly - I know their styles quite well, so it was easy for me to pick.
De Kooning I also know but he's less recognisable to me (despite this I still realized it was modern art).
Nice quiz.
Funny, however, how you guys think that poor results diminish modern art instead of diminishing our understanding of it.

Lol at that logic.
The fact that some of this is highly regarded art is a joke.

Funny that you mention "logic", because, by logic, the only thing that the quiz says is that people cannot separate art from baby's drawings.
When Joshua Bell played in the subway (https://www.google.it/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&ved=0CDsQtwIwAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DUM2 1gPmkDpI&ei=0ouUUuGUEeGBywPxgYKAAw&usg=AFQjCNE4IiVrs-Sx1RlKLxtXLWEC8bo49g&sig2=Byw_OiV7iZS-JMbvzdriPw&bvm=bv.57155469,d.bGQ) and people hardly realized that a world-class musician was before them, your conclusion is that elite classically trained musicians = amateurs,
or that most people don't have the tools to recognize art?

My conclusion is that a toddler wouldn't be able to perform at that level. :lol
Can't say the same about the "art" in the OP.

another nitpick i have with the quiz is that... since children's art can be just as brilliant as any other art... the idea of drawing a line between theirs and 'modern artists' is a rather bogus exercise IMO.
children's art IS modern art in many senses. abstract modern artists ARE children in many senses, i.e. they're deliberately trying to deconstruct.
so the line is so blurred to me that although the quiz is fun, i don't see a lot of point in it. like it's missing the greater point in order to make some minor technical observations. then again... that's also an artistic exercise right there, so...
i appreciate art, but just not this brand.
i appreciate technical skills.... stuff that no one could possibly confuse with a toddler's piece.
the joshua bell analogy wasn't very good. his skill was highly evident, and no one could had possibly mistaken him for a clueless 5 year old who's randomly playing.

I know de kooning style so I know how does his paintings look like.
But never heard of those selected.. felt stupid.

The bolded part is the reply to ace23 and DCL's remarks.
The Joshua Bell analogy works until a certain point. But of course it's misleading because a violin is technically demanding per se, unlike a pencil with a piece of paper.
My point is Not all art has got to be self-evident to the public's eye.
Some of it (like the ones in the OP quiz) may need an educated taste, just like it takes a certain degree of attention and dedication to separate a world-class violin from a busker's.

Is there any skill involved in making those art? Can you or I make one?
