Is he a max contract type of player capable of one day leading Utah to the promised land?

No, he's becoming an all-star level starter, but (clearly) no superstar.

No. You're thinking of Joseph Smith.

Iggy level contract - 4 years, 48 million. That's what he will probably get.

Nope. He's an excellent all-around guy, but best suited to being the #3 or #4 guy on offense. Unfortunately he's probably going to be given a max contract by someone (which is why the Jazz were trying to lock him up early like Favors) and I don't think he'll be with the Jazz next year.

who is foolish enough to max this guy out though, I can imagine only Milwaukee or some desperate team. Utah is desperate though, remember that massive contract they gave to AK47 to keep him around?

Phoenix and Boston are both supposedly heavily into him. Brad Stevens coached him at Butler and is a big fan. It might not be a max, but I think they'll offer him a deal in the 4 years, $56-$58 million range, which I don't think Utah will match.
And that deal they gave to AK is exactly why they won't/shouldn't give Hayward a similar deal. Once bitten, twice shy and all that.

Sometimes watching Hayward though he looks like a stronger version of Kirilenko with better handles and a much better shooter, with equal passing, AK being a better shotblocker but both pretty equal defenders.

At his best AK was a WAY better defender than Hayward...are you on dope?
Hayward just had the worst shooting game in Jazz history (1-17) and he hasn't shown much improvement since he got into the league.
Giving him max contract money is not going to happen and if it does by some odd chance the Jazz F/O should be fired.

Definitely a better shooter and ball handler. AK was a more natural power forward though (which he couldn't play after his got his big contract due to Boozer and Okur), where Hayward isn't. He's struggling with his shot this year (38.8FG%) because he's forced to be a number 1 option when he's not one. Put him on a good team with some other offensive talent and he'll most likely go back to being a 45%-47% shooter from the field.

He's good until the last 5 minutes of a game. 4 year $48 mil is about right for him.

in terms of help defense, AK47 is better, in terms of man D, I think they are about equal with Hayword being better because he's stronger/more athletic.

Yep. Not a go to guy but someone every team in the league would love to have in their line-up.

17 pts 6 rbds 5 ass 1.5 stls isn't exactly what I'd call average and he's always been a slow starter so his numbers should look a lot better at the end of the year especially as he gets more help.

Yes and it hamstrung them for years. I'm guessing they learned their lesson and they also have a new gm.

Yes he has!

He's a more refined player than AK.
I'm thinking the best way for the Jazz to keep him could be to front load his contract. Overpay him next year when they'll have the money and than he'll be cheap after that like Millsap was.

He's a solid player but don't let the inflated stats fool you. He's practically playing point for the Jazz right now, so he's going to post big numbers.
He's a solid starting SF who should probably be the 3rd or 4th option on offense. I'd give him 8m per but somebody will probably give him 10m per.

He is not an star all by any means. He is putting up decent numbers because no one else can on the worst team in the league. However, Gordon himself is a great glue guy. Would be a perfect 6th man or 3rd/4th cog on a great team. I love the guy.

This he's something like Iggy with better shooting less defense, he's got athletic ability/playmaking and can fill in up time to time but you don't want him as a #1 option.

Between guys like Chandler Parsons, Hayward, etc., upside wise u are getting give or take Detlef Schrempf possible upside. U know very good all around play, athletic, nice scoring skillset, but not really a number one option kind of guy. As of now a peak Detlef is for sure better. Detlef was a multiple time All Star and even peaked out as maybe a top 6 kind of SF in the L at one time. Hayward looks like he will be more of a Detlef as opposed to being a true superstar SF like a Bird, Bron, or Durant. And Detlef was awesome so if u can develop into that kind of player, good for the babyfaced assassin! Same goes for Parsons. But the main difference i see with Detlef is the fact that he was a great rebounding SF who often played PF too.
