View Full Version : Three "next Jordans" in the NBA next year
1st next Jordan- Kobe- failed. Not physically gifted enough.
2nd next Jordan- LeBron - failed. Lacks intangibles, mental toughness, grit, heart. Too beta; not alpha.
3rd next Jordan - Wiggins- To Be Determined. Definitely physically gifted enough but will he/ can he develop what Lebron lacks to become the next Jordan?
Lebron would be a 5x MVP, and 3x Finals MVP at the end of the season. And he easily surpasses Kobe Bryant who also only have 1 MVP, and 2 Finals MVP in 18 years.
regular season MVP is irrelevant. LeBron has too many debacles in his career to be considered the next Jordan. LeBron is a bigger failure than Kobe because he has the physical gifts to be as good as/better than Jordan. Kobe isn't even close to Jordan/Lebron in terms of physical talent so he never really had a chance to be the next Jordan so he isn't really a failure like Lebron.

And Lebron is also a better regular season, playoffs and finals performer than Kobe.
Kobe tried to be like Mike, but he was just a less efficient version of his Airness.
Lebron in only 10 years have the same numbers of Finals MVP as Kobe.
Kobe also has plenty of playoffs debacles, and He's only shooting less than 41% from the field in 7 NBA Finals appearance.

You aren't judged by your failures in basketball when you have so many victories, as Lebron does, and most likely continue to have.
I bet you can't even remember the years Magic, Kareem and Bird lost? Or all the downfalls Shaq and Wilt have had.
Basically, your opinion is stupid and null.

Jerry Stackhouse was also billed as the next Jordan after the sixers drafted him in 1995. Both were the 3rd overall pick in the draft.

I'm sorry I am not impressed with LeBron being better than Kobe since he is significantly bigger, stronger, faster, jumps higher, and has suffered no injuries compared to the myriad of injuries Kobe has suffered. Almost anybody would be as good as Lebron if they had his gifts. Many people would only be a role player with Kobe's physical talents. (like JR Smith).
I don't think so. LBJ with 3 Finals MVP >> Kobe with 2 Finals MVP.
:wtf: That has nothing to do with what I posted.

JR Smith's combine numbers are similar to young Kobe's combine numbers. So what is the difference between the two? work ethic, basketball iq, intangibles, heart, grit, etc. If you put JR Smith's brain in Kobe's body the result would be JR Smith. If you put JR Smith's brain in LeBron's body then you would have a perennial allstar/potential superstar not as good as LeBron due to lower basketball IQ but still great.

Steve Nash - 2. Shaq - 1. Kobe - 1.
1st next Jordan- Kobe- failed. Not physically gifted enough.
Nice try #1...... Kobe was as physically gifted as any SG and considering the longevity of it i would say he was physical enough to do anything....
2nd next Jordan- LeBron - failed. Lacks intangibles, mental toughness, grit, heart. Too beta; not alpha.
Nice try #2...... so far he has actually done more than Jordan.... by the time he retires it might not be "Next Jordan" we will be saying anymore but "Next Lebron"....

Accomplishments doesn't = intangibles, heart, grit, mental toughness.
2011 NBA finals = lack of intangibles, heart, grit, mental toughness.
2012 NBA Finals = wasn't even close due to playing on a stacked team.
2013 NBA Finals = lack of intangibles, heart, grit, mental toughness. Got bailed out in game 6 after 2 missed threes and two turnovers in the final two minutes
(not exactly Jordanesque).
Being the next Jordan = accomplishments + intangibles, heart, grit, mental toughness, alpha male mentality.

this thread is about being the next Jordan. It isn't just about matching/surpassing his accolades. In order to be the next Jordan you need
both. Kobe is a joke athletically compared to Jordan, LeBron, Wiggins. Kobe's talent level is closer to JR Smith. Kobe accomplished way more than he should have due to intangibles, heart, grit, mental toughness, etc.
stupid thread
LeBron stans are derailing this thread by going off topic via listing his accomplishments. Nobody is even mentioning Wiggins.

Kobe never was a "joke" athletically, even compared to those guys. And he's the only player who deserves to be called the new Jordan, because he achieved one of the best careers of all time playing the same style of basketball.
LeBron is essentially a new thing. Instead of becoming the new Jordan, he changed the standards of what the best player in the world is supposed to be (helped, no doubt, by the "statistical revolution", or whatever you want to call it)... LeBron is the kind of player other players in the future are going to be compared to more than he is the kind of player you would compare to someone in the past.

Absolutely, i hate comparing him to Jordan... you could compare accolades within the confounds of timelimit/age (Lebron is nowhere close to being done yet afterall) and maybe stats or how they impact/dominate the game... but thats as far as it goes.... they are so different players...... he is more like a Magic/Pippen/Oscar/Penny/Hill mix with even a hint of Malone (body?)...
Kobe is more like Jordan, Jordan was better but yes they are much more similar in every way, same position, size, same mindset (score first)... gamestyle... everything... and Kobe has let it been known all the time that he indeed emulated Jordan & his moves....

Media plays a huge part.
The "next Lebron" is just a diva.
Dwight was labeled the "next lebron" in a lot of peoples minds.
Not because of basketball, but other stuff outside of basketball.
No player's name will ever replace Jordan's name in the "next xxxxxx"
You hear the next Iverson, (Small volume scorer) next stockton ("pure" guard) etc, but the next "Jordan" will be always be regarded as Godlike basketball skills/competitiveness.
I don't think there EVER will be a time where people say "next LBJ" and automatically thing basketball god, like we do Jordan.
There have been at least 30 players billed as the next Jordan since Jordan. At least.
And Jordan is open that he feels only one of the comparisons are valid, which is Kobe Bryant.

Too many players are labelled the "next Jordan".. The media needs to knock it off with that shit. I guess they need to hype up more superstars because the league is lacking in that department right now...
Solid derailling of the thread though:applause: Only took until the second post to compare LeBron to Kobe. :facepalm

I'm pretty sure I've heard the words next LeBron multiple times. And next Kobe, too, for that matter. The frame of reference keeps changing, it has nothing to do with who's better (yes, Jordan is better than both, of course... but why would you need to keep repeating it if it's so obvious?)... for instance, great center prospects will be called "the next Shaq" or "the next Hakeem" more often than "the next Wilt" or "the next Russell".

I think "next Kobe" is a stupid label. Kobe is a less athletically gifted/inefficient Jordan. "Next LeBron" doesn't really apply to Wiggins or anybody else because nobody really plays like LeBron.

I've never heard someone say "next Kobe" because he patterned himself identically to Jordan. Kobe can never one up the guy he's basically pattering even mannerisms after. It would be like saying a Nirvana cover band is better than the real deal.
And from an accomplishment, or legacy perspective he is just a watered down remix of Mike. Kobe is the closest to Mike in terms of basketball aesthetics, LeBron is the closest resume wise. Wade had a period of likability similar to Jordan.
