View Full Version : Paul George models game after Kobe's; eyes similar success

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "With each pull-up jump shot and polished offensive move, Indiana Pacers forward Paul George resembles his childhood idol Kobe Bryant, yet he has managed to carve out his own identity as one of basketball's rising stars.
There are times when the similarities between George and Bryant, the guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, are uncanny: from the footwork and mid-range jumpers all the way down to the number 24 on both their jerseys.
But this is all by design, as the 23-year-old George has used Bryant as a basketball template en route to fulfilling his own limitless potential.
"Paul grew up idolizing Kobe," Pacers coach Frank Vogel told Reuters. "So much of the last two years (George has heard) stories about Kobe; about how Kobe works. They're legendary, we all know them. It's helped to establish (George's own) work ethic."
It has also established George and the league-leading Pacers as arguably the most formidable threat to the reign of the two-time defending National Basketball Association (NBA) champion Miami Heat."

Who cares about him being efficient? He ain't tryna battle DeAndre Jordan for a FG% title. Paul George is currently the best defensive perimeter player in the league, and has had a bigger IN game impact than stat padding LeBron this year.
Pacers num 1 seed.

actually PG is not a more efficient scorer than Kobe. If you are just looking at the numbers because Lebron fans love to look at FG%, he is a career 43.7% shooter. And in the playoffs, just bareley 40%. So no, he is not more efficient.

What's funny? Jordan was more athletic than Kobe, thus Kobe working more on his fundamentals. Kobe has a better post game, can deliver hook shots left handed and right handed, has shot a fadeaway 3 left handed. Far more skilled long range player aswell.

Kobe Bryant paved the way and is an inspiration/role model for Paul George who is the next big superstar in the league along with Anthony Davis.
This just speaks to his greatness and how immensely the rest of the league respects him.

More dominant scorer too. Kobe is an era specific player. He probably wouldn't crack the 20ppg mark in today's game.

Paul George this year (at 23) - 25, 6, 3 on 47% FG
Kobe at 23 - 25, 6, 6 on 47% FG.

So he modeled his game after a CHUCKER. No wonder he lost to Lebron in the playoffs. His ONE on ONE balling against Bron cost them the series. That little dab with lebron inflated his ego so much it changed his game. Dat weak kobrick mind, get some respect and attention..focus solely on own game, forget team concept...trying to impress and not make mistakes.

You seem to struggle with language.
There's a difference between skill and skill set.
You need a certain skill to imitate a certain skill set.
Paul George is more skilled than the vast majority of players playing the NBA and it's irrelevant what kind of skill set he chooses to execute as long as he does it effectively and better than everyone else (eg. now).

We got PG modeling his game to Kobe's game.

any big market team's fans will behave like kobe stans do if they have been successful for a lot of years nad have a superstar on their team.
if lebron had gone to new york instead of miami and won a few rings there then you would have seen the worst trolls of all time.
Miami is a small market plus it is not much of a sports town. knicks fans would have blown lakers fans out of the water if lebron went there and it would have been even worse if he won there.

Surely I can't be the only one who doesn't see the similarities between Paul George and Kobe... George is a SF with a good three inches on Kobe, and is more of an all-around player than he is an unstoppable scorer. Aside from having work ethic and a 'killer instinct', there isn't that much in common... Larry Bird too had work ethic and a killer instinct, but no one would compare him to Kobe.

Kobe's a AllRound player too though...As the Man in the Playoffs he's put up numbers of 28-5-5 with a TS of 55%....George also dominates the perimeter defensively like Kobe did when he was 23....George is looking as nearly as polished as 03' Kobe who avg 30ppg 6-5 and All Defensive Team First level.

Absolute bullshit. In an effort to find a 'new Kobe' (possibly because you're desperate to find a competitor for LeBron), you have underrated your original idol big time. 03 Kobe is far better offensively than George.
Even though George is pretty much there defensively, Kobe was far more dominant offensively. And I won't waver on this opinion until I see George sustain this production (and more) over a long period of time, where he can put up 25ppg (AT LEAST) against any team without too much difficulty.

Looks that way which really pisses me off. Branslowski is already one of the most annoying posters on here. Was hoping once Kobe finally retired in the next few years he'd just go back to posting about his rapping and other shit in the OTC and stay off the NBA board, but now he's got a new obsession and it looks like he's going to be equally as obnoxious shoving him down everyone's throat as he is with Kobe.
But really, though, George is the one we should be mad at since he said something about modeling his game after Kobe.

I'm a kiss ass? Please, explain.
And I'm not even going to try and explain how/why I'm a Colts/Thunder fan to you because I've done it before, but your stupid ass apparently can't comprehend it. When you live and grow up in a state with no professional sports teams, you pick random teams for whatever reasons. OKC is the most "local" team around here and after going to some games their first few years in OKC, they just kinda stuck with me. Not even sure what the hell you even mean by "KG fan turned Durant fan". Apparently it's not possible to have two "favorite" players? Shit, it's not like KG and Durant came up in the league together. I started becoming a KG fan in the early and mid 2000s when Durant was still in junior high and high school...I didn't even know who Kevin Durant was at the time.
