Ali isn't a consensus pick for greatest boxer, in fact, I'm not sure he'd have majority vote if you polled all hardcore boxing fans.

Jordan on the other hand is probably a 90-95% first pick with hardcore basketball fans.

Ali is not even considered the greatest boxer ever. Sugar Ray Robinson is.

No he's not, not with hardcore fans, with the average Joe, sure.

The average Joe doesn't know who Bill Russell is, just like the average Joe doesn't know who Sugar Ray Robinson is.

So you'll get Jordan and Clay as being the greatest out of their respective sports.

But I guess the comparison can still be made since even though Ali is not the GOAT, boxing has a much richer history than Basketball. Someone like FLoyd Mayweather Jr. Who has dominated for 15 years, gone undefeated, would be a borderline top 30 fighter all time to most hardcore fans.

Mike Tyson is more of a popular figure than a great boxer. He could've been and prime for prime he's up there but in terms of resume he's not. Wasted a large portion of his prime in prison.

No he's not, not with hardcore fans, with the average Joe, sure.

The average Joe doesn't know who Bill Russell is, just like the average Joe doesn't know who Sugar Ray Robinson is.

So you'll get Jordan and Clay as being the greatest out of their respective sports.

No way.

MJ is considered the greatest in his psort by most, and Ali is not considered the greatest in his sport by most.

MJ is considered by about 90-95% (a good estimate) as the best by fans who know more about the game. He is the Michael Jordan of basketball, just like every athlete considered the best in their field is the Michael Jordan of their sport.

Almost every list by sportswriters has Jordan #1.
To prove it, just googled "best basketball player ever list".

In order, FoxSports, Slam Magazine, Bleacher Report, The Top Tens List, Ranker, Bill Simmons, Squidoo, HoopsManifesto, Inside Hoops, IMDB, all have Jordan number 1 before anyone says otherwise.
Regardless about what you think of the publications, they are publications, and that is an incredible show of Jordan's dominance.
You have to go all the way to page 3 of Google before anyone says anything to the contrary, and then the Jordan publications start all over again, SportsCity, etc. and so on.

Whereas as Ali is considered by very few to be the best boxer ever by boxing fans in the know. Perhaps like 10-15% would say Ali fi that. I'd say 60-70% would say Sugar Ray Robinson. And then you'd get some Willie Pep, Henry Armstrong people as well.

If you google "best boxer ever list", Boxing-About (Sugar Ray R. #1), Hubpages (Joe Louis #1), ESPN (Sugar Ray #1), Bleacher Report (Sugar Ray R. #1), The Top Tens (Manny Pacquiao #1?) Boxing (Sam Langford #1), it's a long way down as you can see before anyone Ranker says Ali.

If anyone has a case to be the Michael Jordan of boxing it's Sugar Ray Robinson, but the whole point is that there isn't one. Very few sports (though there are some) have a figure who will make #1 on almost every list.

And that is why he is Michael Jordan.

He is the Michael Jordan of being Michael Jordan.

Most people on here are hardcore basketball fans. If we were to do a survey, 90% of them would say Jordan, excluding a couple delusional Laker fans saying Magic, and people like yourself, who choose to have unpopular opinions for the sake of it.

Michael at the end of the day, had the best combination of individual dominance, team success, stats, etc, and is considered by most to be the GOAT. Every single basketball show/podcast/discussion merits him as so. That isn't the case for boxing. Jordan has an assumed position at number 1 even before a discussion among basketball fans start, and that isn't the case with boxing.

You idiot. Cricket is top 3 most popular sports in the world.

Yea because of 1 country, India.

Mahjong is one of the most popular board games because it's played in China, but that doesn't mean most people in the world know how to play it.

MJ is 6-0 in the Finals. What is Muhammad Ali's record in the Finals?

BTW...The video in the OP was...meh.

Only one country plays American Football... only like a couple more play baseball. Does that mean it doesn't count?

Besides, England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies all play cricket professionally. Just because you don't like cricket or think it's boring/pointless doesn't mean it doesn't count.

It had a couple of funny lines. Like the Jordan Hitler mustache, and the Muhammad Ali double dribbling invisible basketballs.

And because of Pakistan and Bangladesh. You really had to retract your previous point about it being a "shit sport" that 99.999% of the world's population does not play. So now you've regressed to the "awww man its just one country" argument. Oh brother.

The reality is all these lists of GOAT are a joke. Its a highly immature and almost childish approach that doesn't face the reality that the difference between some of these goats is just luck. What a waste of time smh.

On the other hand Im all about comparing things like who has had the most decorated career? Who was the best jump shooter? Who has the best shooting percentagees from a certain range from the basket? You get the point, the greatest of all time discussion is just far to vague. Now grow up u petulant kunts

Shit sports like cricket don't count when debating the GOAT athlete, especially sports in which 99.999% of the world's population don't even know the rules or how to play.

Yea because of 1 country, India.

Two of the worst arguments and counter argument on speaking about the knowledge of playing Cricket.

Obviously I didn't mean literally when I made the "99.999%" comment. I figured that with my handle, and the outlandish number I chose, that some people would have figured I was speaking figuratively.

I guess I gave too many people too much credit. :facepalm

I don't really see what your point is or is it just trolling the sport of Cricket ?

Yup it was. Sorry it's going by you that easily.

American Football athletes are among the best in the entire world, literally. Yet they get shunned out of GOAT athlete talk all the time, due to regionalization of the NFL. So if it's ok to do with NFL athletes, then I have no problem shunning cricket players, which is very regionalized as well.

Rather, you are just failing to come to grips with and acknowledge your own ignorance on the subject. You weren't speaking figuratively. You were just speaking unintelligently. You are not fooling anyone. Just read the replies to your imprudent statement.

Are you blind?

I just gave you a list of countries outside India (some thousands of miles away) that play cricket at the top level. How can you still say it's regionalized?

England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies all play it, plus others. Regionalized? :lol

Basically Britain and it's former colonies. It's not played in the rest of Europe, not played in North America, South America, Asia, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, North Africa, etc.

It's a sport like baseball, high skill requirement with low athleticism, except baseball requires 100x (figuratively speaking) more athleticism than cricket. If we're gonna include sports like this, then Willie Mosconi is GOAT. His record of 526 consecutive shots in 14.1 straight billiards will never be touched, and he is the GOAT in his sport.

Where the hell do you see it saying GOAT athlete ?

The OP just says "Who is the greatest ?"... Says nothing about "GOAT athlete". It's probably just talking about greatest players among each sport.

By all means, Willie Mosconi is GOAT, I don't really care. It's all subjective anyways. Only you seem to have a problem with Cricket for whatever reason.
