Durant is an elite level scorer, but Perkins is an elite level defender and as we all know Defense wins championships. That's why Perkins has 2 rings (Gets credit for 2010) and Durant has none. That's why I think Perkins is the Thunder's MVP so far this season.

The Thunder would just be a first round folder without GOATkins. They never reached WCF or the Finals without him. That hard screen setting and dat leadership does wonders. And he stops other team from scoring with his intimidating size.

OKC this year with Perk in has only lost one game. OKC with Russ in has lost two games. Clearly Perk is more valuable to OKC than Westbrook. Anyone who questions the impact that Perkins has on this team, look at that stat right there.

Real talk, he might be the most important player on that team. You can't fully capture his impact by looking at boxscores because he does so much for his team that can't be measured with stats.

He's a winner. What have KD and Westbrook won? Nothing.

Yep, people should stop lookin at the boxscores when it comes to GOATkins.

1) Everybody knows that the less blocks you average, the better, as you put yourself out of the position for getting a rebound or a box out when you go up for a block. We see this with Ibaka, who jumps on every shot and opponent ends up either inbounding the ball, getting an easy basket from a dumpoff to a bigman or getting an offensive rebound.

Perkins makes people miss without putting himself out of the position on the next play. He does not need to jump, because he scares people and makes them miss. This is supported by his Synergy stats

2) Perkins boxes out. Anybody who ever played ball knows, that boxing out is the most important thing about getting a rebound. Perkins makes twig Durant grab 8 rebounds per game and stats support the fact, that Durant rebounds much better with Perkins on the floor. That is why his raw rebound numbers are low, but he is the best at boxing out.

3) Offense - Goatkins gets regularly double teamed and thus creates easy shots for Swagbrook and Durant, who both shoot better with him on the floor.

4) Intangibles - nothing to say here. Perk brings experience, leadership and winning mentality. He is the brain and heart of the team.

Perk is a glue guy, the heart & soul of the team. His value does not translate to the box score, guys! You can't just look at box score, as Perkins does so much more. He definitely passes the eye test.

Exactly.

He was a core piece in the Lakers championship runs. It's something that never appears on the box score. Case in point, what happened when they lost Adam Morrison? They got swept by the Mavs.

And the White Mamba:

You guys just can't look at the box score, okay! He set multiple screens, boxed out guys so Durant could get rebounds, scowled a bunch, and was the enforcer of the game. His skillset does not translate onto the box score, but he is surely worth every penny of his 8.7 million!

In fact, by doing the math here, we are 1/5 of the way done with the season, so 8.7 million divided by 5 = 1.74 million

Perkins has scored 47 points this year, so that means OKC is paying Perkins nearly 40,000 ($37,021) per point. Kendrick GOAT Perkins
