A lot of people saying Melo will leave the Knicks, their record is 3-13, why not trade Melo for some draft picks or a couple of solid players and just flat out tank.

Get something before the Knicks get nothing.

Well for one thing they traded their draft pick for Melo. No sense in tanking unless they really like Denver. Denver has to give either their pick or the Knicks pick to Orl.

If they did have their pick they should keep him, they may become better by trading him

I'd do that if I were the Knicks.

Bulls: Deng (expirer) and this year's pick, or Butler+trash+Bobcats' pick, or Boozer (next year expirer)+rights to Mirotic+Bobcats' pick+our pick.

Lakers: Via 3-team deal involving Gasol (3rd team), Melo (Lakers), young talent (Knicks), and a pick or two (Knicks).

The OP is talking about trading Melo to acquire a pick in next year's draft. The team receiving Melo would have to be a tanking team as well and be willing to waive protection rights.

That's how I saw it aswel:applause:

Not sure if many teams would swap a potential top pick for melo though..

Freeing up capspace should be their priority, you dont want to be trading for players that are going to lock in salary for a couple more years, melos gone so they just have to play it smart here, its a real tough situation because you dont have the picks and you are tied down with all this salary

No point in tanking even if they got picks because that pick won't be dependent on their standing.

Yes, the Nets should tank.
Because the Hawks have rights over the Nets pick.

IF you could drug a GM and get him to trade you a potential lottery pick, trading them Melo would probably take that team out of the lottery.

But no one is giving up a decent pick for melo this year

No team in the lottery will give up that pick for Carmelo Anthony soon to be unrestricted free agent due to make max money. So what sense does it make for the OP to even suggest the NYK tanking when all that does is give Denver the chance to "tank for Wiggins/Parker"?

Being a lottery team without a pick really just shows complete incompetence from the front office. It's embarrassing.

Its a pretty crap situtation to be in really which leaves you no option but to play for free agency (and they have so much in salary) which inhibits that aswell, thats why melo needs to get the hell out of there

I think what they should do instead is free up cap space for 2015 by trading Melo and receiving a non-Lottery protected draft pick for the 2015 season. Knicks will basically have the best cap room of any team that year and will have two first round draft picks. The Knicks should just assemble any team next year and tank next year.

Great Centers available for the 2015 class and even a slight possibility Parker stays for a Sophomore year.

So..."look, we're going to send you Melo for your pick, but you have to agree to not win any games, ok?"

No team is going to take on Melo knowing he can bolt this offseason especially after what happened with Dwight.

However, Pistons can offer two potential deals:
----------

Melo, Shumpert, Kmart, Bargs
for
Monroe, KCP, Stuckey, Mitchell, Charlie V, Bynum
Why for Knicks? Get a franchise C in Monroe, KCP, capspace

or

Melo, Shumpert, Kmart, Bargs
for
Smith, KCP, Stuckey, Charlie V, Bynum
Why for Knicks? Smith, KCP, capspace

-------
If Melo is going to walk this offseason what better deal can Knicks get for Melo? Monroe / Smith + KCP + capspace for someone who is gonna leave anyways is an amazing deal for the Knicks. It would salvage the whole Melo/Amare era.

Detroit would look real nice with either trade:

Jennings / Billups
Shumpert / Singler
Melo / Bargs - Datome
Monroe or Smith / Kmart - Jerebko
Drummond / Harrelson

That's a definite 3 or 4 seed in the East and maybe Melo resigns especially if he is paired up with Smith and Drummond thats a decent trio.

I don't get the debate... The Knicks tanking is a great idea. Why wouldn't they?

Parker/ WIggins are their only hope plus you know if they get a low enough record Stern will rig it for them anyways. Id say Knicks should pull the trigger, Melo for Gasol GET IT DONE MITCH

It won't work out unless Wiggins or Parker stays for one more year. There is no way the Knicks can get either of the two unless the trading team does not have their lottery pick protected. Would be foolish on their part.

Knicks' best plan is the one I mentioned earlier.

Yes. Carmelo is not as good as Lebron, Durant, Chris Paul etc but you probably have to pay more and treat him like the best player in the world. The Knicks were on the right track but they took the wrong road by trading away half of their rosters to get Carmelo which ended up being a disaster for them, now it is time to right the wrong and let another idiotic taker overpay his service.

Melo is not getting traded.

If Chandler was healthy, this team might be .500 right now. Not great, but they would be playoff bound.

Really the Knicks need to sign a couple of energy guys from the D-League or overseas to add some spark to the locker room and on the court. One or two guys bringing energy could change the whole situation.
