Gucci Mane has zero redeemable qualities- both as a rapper and a man from what I know of him.

What's his greatest song in terms of artistry or genuine emotion?

I defend many rappers from those who throw stones at them but this is one guy that I've never been able to defend. All I ever hear from the guy publicly is the kind of stuff that makes someone perceived as a P.O.S.

Some artists that get negative pub at least have a body of work that's respectable.

Are any of you actually fans of this guy?

I'd love to see Al's attempt to defend this guy, he's been trying for years to convince people that off beat, unlistenable crap with no rhythm is misunderstood expression. His MO is to defend borderline indiscernable garbage rap is always hilarious.

Yet nobody can still point me to a quality Gucci Mane song? Riding in the car when friends say they like the upcoming Gucci verse then I hear it and cringe terribly inside. Admittedly, I haven't given him any listens in at least over a year

Beat was pretty good. Hook was kinda catchy. Gucci verse was nothing special at all, borderline trash.

Sounded kinda like a mixtape ripoff of 'I Remember' except that beat went even harder and The Game/ Young Jeezy (who isn't that great in his own right but kills that track) can rap circles around Gucci's ingant ass.

What's worse, Gucci callin himself a big, dumb gorilla or The Game spittin sumthin bout eatin a female's anaconda?

I still to this day don't understand what he means...tranny? Slang is easily to translate for me yet I have no fckn clue what a girl's anaconda could mean.

I listen to mostly mid 90's hip hop and don't actively listen to Gucci or most acts from the mid 2000's and on but from the few tracks of his I've taken in have been good. Not sure why some of the modern hip hop acts get more scrutiny on their lyrics than some of the mid 90's stuff. Overall i prefer the stuff i grew up on mostly from a nostalgic point.

^ real life

Lol have you ever done anything of consequence - review writing, blogs, YouTube channels, etc. that allow your opinions of 'the evolution of rap' to be actualized except in a thread on Insidehoops?

I wrote that for a magazine at University of Maryland and got pretty good feedback from different people in the journalism dept. Could you even HONESTLY formulate some kind of artistic defense of the subject matter of dudes like Gucci Mane or whatever forced act you consider innovative and culture-shifting to the new rap game? :oldlol:

Do you honestly consider your favorite kind of rappers to be of value to what life can be? If you're willing to admit that the bullshit you enjoy is just a shallow hollow shell of lyrical output then I can respect that. I like all kinds of rap throughout the years that has no real value other than in moment enjoyment and recognize it as nothing of real significance.

You're a trip tho, trying to continuously bash lyrical guys that actually utilize themes of the human experience that are accessible to many kinds of people.

Keep enjoyin your 'unique' perspective of music made by guys with very little redeeming qualities, little education, little perspective, boxed in mentalities and a deceleration of the genre as an artform. You must be very proud to be a ringleader of a small faction of oddballs that try to manipulate vapid recordings with terrible technical prowess into some kind of 'ironic' form of art. Congratulations, you are the 'hipster' of fast food rap and I doubt anybody outside of the internet give a shit about your interpretations of Lil B, Chief Keef, Boosie and Juicy J (who I've listened to for years btw)

If the culture that permeates through is now easily mocked and objectively regarded as trash by everyone but weird niche groups and those who have no musical aptitude beyond rap, how is that a growth of any kind?

There are all kind of new producers and rappers that deserve recognition and the support you are referring to. They can't even get it because the fanbases and casual listeners have a lower and lower benchmark for what they consider good music in their containment of what rap music is.

I've listened to rap music since elementary school and it's always been a valid form of artistic expression yet I understand why it can't be taken as serious as other genres. That's not what I consider any real kind of growth.
