Interesting. I don't know how I feel about another monster movie. There needs to be a storyline and not just some monster destroying a city unless they are going for visuals.

I'm not a huge Godzilla fan or anything but I always love creature design and films with good atmosphere. I have a feeling this will be surprisingly well done. For a blockbuster, it seems to have a very unique and horrific tone.

Godzilla is apparently gigantic (even for his standards) and I really like Bryan Cranston & Elizabeth Olsen.

Godzilla was good because it was a dude dressed up in a costume crushing a model of a city. At least I think that was the nostalgia of it.

Doing a Godzilla movie doesn't bode well in my opinion. I don't know what the budget of this film but they will get their money back.

Also, anyone sick of remakes?

I don't like unneccesary remakes. Like Oldboy. Spike Lee made a movie where he copied a lot of the scenes exactly, but made it worse. He'd have been better off showing the original with subtitles and SPIKE LEE PRESENTS. But i don't think anyone can argue the old Godzilla movies can't be remade, there has never been a realistic looking Godzilla film.

Movie was GARBAGE however great potential soem of the stuff was lovely though

the whole scifi mutation thing with that old japanese guy going gojira... gojira

and then they try to slay the beast but u cant fukk with it underwater

whats this a TWIST..GOJIRA BABY? and they all up in this trapped building nowhere to go but to use their cunning in their little squad.. dude knocks down the gumballs to trip em and the chandeliers ahahhaha yes military tactics indeed

and to be honset Diddy and Jimmy Pages collaboration "come with me"1 might have PISSED off a lot of rock fans but that song is catchy as fukk. its right up there with walk this way in its genre when it comes to workout songs. intense, fun, cool azz rock rap hybrid.

Let's see a juiced up less cheeesy grittier version of it.

I don't think Hollywood is running out of ideas but they are coming pretty close. All the great films as of late have been written and directed by Chinese and Korean directors. It could be that we are running out of talent from a directing standpoint.

Christopher Nolan is known as a great director but he comes off as a snob. His movies aren't just a movie anymore, they have some philosophical relevance to society. Too much thinking is involved in his movies. Like the Batman trilogies, instead of it being a Batman story, he decided to go further and make it a deep film. A story within a story. Inception was like that too.

Second of all, the problem with films today is that the directors have to please the studios and movie executives. Certain films are made with a PG13 rating so they avoid the R rating. I can understand why, get more butts and kids into seats but it takes away from what can be done.

Old Boy for an example, is a dumb ass plot. What made it good was the actors and how the movie was filmed. Every scene was a work of art. Again, it has to do with the director and the Korean director is light years ahead of Spike Lee or any other directors who dare to remake it.

I have to agree with Spike changing the movie because the American audience is not ready for a movie like Old Boy. If they were to watch the original version, I bet people will be asking for their money back. You have to be a Film Aficionado to really appreciate a movie like that.

They'd rather bank on known commodities than to risk losing money on something unknown yet original.

This is why you see numerous sequels and remakes. Money money money.

That is a great trailer.

And how did this thread descend into an argument on originality in Hollywood? Japan has been making ridiculous Godzilla sequels since the 60's. This is what? The 2nd American Godzilla film?

I think the studio wants to provide a modern, serious, Westernized update on Godzilla. In contrast to that goofy 1998 film.

Monster movies had their time in society and it is way past that time. It was during a time when we believed there were UFO's and the Lochness monster swimming in some lake.

It's hard to watch these remakes today unless it's for purely nostalgia and it even fails in that department.

Whilst I don't like Nolan's films, at all, I'm all for deep and contemplative Hollywood movies. If anything, we need more Nolan's (albeit better ones).

Look at the past directors who made challenging movies: Welles, Hawks, Kubrick, even Scorsese/

Today, most of the great American directors are indie filmmakers, and it's ruining Hollywood.

As for this trailer: yawn. It'll end up being just like Pacific Rim or Cloverfield.

This nigguh dumb af. He did tell a Batman story. Having themes, nuance, allegories, and a story beneath a story makes for compelling myth building, and modern mythology.

All great stories have layers. Stories beneath the surface one. I can see how one would say he comes off as condescending, but giving big budget films the surface candy they deserve but also bringing the depth of something to think about should be applauded. It gives usually cheap hollywood entertainment dimension.

It's a lightning bolt through the sea of bland cookie cutter nonsense.

They serve as visceral entertainment, with weight. Great films stay with you after you leave the theatre when they're that nuanced, or deep. Things with powerful themes. Social commentary makes things way more interesting.

I mean take TDK, it's on the surface a pure comic book fim. A movie about Batman's affect on Gotham. Both positive, and negative. And the consequence for said actions in Batman Begins. Plausible.

Beneath the surface it's a giant social commentary, and brillaint allegory to American's post 9/11 anxieities, fear, and a very interesting analogy of the War on Terror.

TDK Rises? It's concluding Bruce Wayne's story, but it's an intensly personal story about a depressed individuals re-discovery of the will to truly live. That's great stuff.

I don't want action without brains, or down time to contemplate themes, or the meaning of violence on screen. Marvel Studio movies, Michael Bay's movies. It's superficial fluff.

Cranston being in it gives me hope, but disaster films (I know it's not strictly a disaster film) don't exactly have a very good track record. They tend to focus on special effects and destroying shit and give little care to everything else, but hopefully that's not the case here. I'm optimistic. But is it gonna go with the formula like usual Godzilla movies; humanity ****ing up, monsters being created/waking up, Gozilla also waking/being waken up and really pissed off, Gozilla beating up the monsters with some helps from humans, Godzilla going back to the ocean and leaving all messes behind while humanity being saved once again. It looks like they kept everything true to form except for MechaGodzilla who got a full remake...lol

not sure I am feeling that...but I wasn't really feeling the original as a child too much either.

A robot version of Godzilla seems like it would be difficult to pull off...

if you are talking about the one on the left i dont think that's mechagodzilla. looks like a decepticon that got lost on his way to a michael bay movie to me.

edit:

Some people got an early screening hosted by WB. And apparently Godzilla get very little screen time.

If you're expecting to see a lot of the King of Monsters, you're bound to be disappointed by the news of limited screentime for the radioactive beast

Was planning on seeing this, but wtf is the point of a GODZILLA movie when u barely get to see him?

I'll be upset if Godzilla is only seen at the end to kill the monsters and that's it.

You go to a Godzilla movie, you want to see some Godzilla

it's going to be a slow burn. you will see bits and pieces of him and gradually build up to his full reveal and stomping other monsters.

IMO he should be fckin up monsters the whole flick, or at least half of it...I just hope it isn't like we will just see the blue fire once as like a grand finale

perhaps it won't be as bad as I think if the rest of the movie is full of the other monsters causing chaos

why does movie theater popcorn taste way better than anything you can purchase elsewhere though? it's probably actually worth $81.75

I just hope there are a lot more scenes that flush out the details of the relationship between Dr. Niko Tatopoulos (Matthew Broderick) and Audrey Timmonds (Maria Pitillo). Sure, show some monster scenes here and there but for the sake of captivating audiences on an emotional level really it's those two and their developing romance that need the lions share of screen time.

Sure, cutie.

I know, movie theater popcorn is so superior. I have no idea how they do it, hard for me to resist buying when I go, even when I'm not really hungry lol.

That whole industry is good at turning ppl to mindless drones. I have seen every Transformers joint at the theater despite loathing the second one and thinking it was one of the worst movies I had seen

This Godzilla is too fat.

Da nikka legs have elephantitis.

He most likely has undiagnosed diabeetus too.

Prolly has fatty liver and high sodium for chillin under the sea too long.
