which contender can use Pau and that will put the team over the top?

rebuilding team will not have any use for him neither for teams trying to get into playoffs

what team can trade for him?

Miami. Pau for Joel.

since the lakers dont want to take salary back, it may be hard to trade pau if thats what they do intend to do. no team will give up any picks worth trading for.

sure, he can potentially look good on a contender (once his ankle injury subsides. i truly believe thats the reason for his shiity play as of late.), but what can a contender realistically give us in return thats better than a 20 mil expirer?

If Pop gets his hands on Pau, Gasol reverts back to 2010 form and shits on every big man in the league. True story

Lakers get

Emeka Okafor (expirer)
1st round pick from the Suns (top 15 protected)

Suns get

Pau Gasol (expirer)

Okafor is hurt, but the Lakers get a first round pick.

Who can afford to absorb his salary is the real question.

hawkfan Trade Scenario (big is amazingly forever):

Magic get

Pau Gasol (expirer)

Lakers get

Hedo Turkoglu (expirer - for salary cap purposes)
Jason Maxiall

hawkfan Trade Scenario (where big is amazing):

This is if the Raptors really want to suck to get Wiggins:

Raptors get

Pau Gasol (expirer)

Lakers get

DeMar DeRozan
Landry Fields

The Raptors get rid of 17 million in salary next year, as well as depleting the roster of its current best player in DeRozan. The Raptors are going to get worse, leading a better chance at Wiggins. But they will have 17 million more in cap space, so that is a positive.

The Lakers take on a bad contract in Fields, but get a very good talent in DeRozan.

Gasol's contract is terrible, and he is in decline.
If you think you're gonna get good value, think again - it won't happen.

Not that gsw is a contender lol, but Gasol would make a huge difference for GSW. Be nice to trade Speights for Gasol. Gasol would be a great 6th man with Barnes. I'd even start Draymond, to balance out the bench and starting rotation.

Steph Curry, Toney Douglas
Andre Iguodala, Klay Thompson
Draymond Green, Harrison Barnes
David Lee, Pau Gasol, Jermaine O'neal
Andrew Bogut- Pau Gasol, Festus Ezeli

no one. because trading 20 million of their roster will reduce any contender too much. What would, say, OKC have to package with perk to even make this work?

Pau's not going anywhere. He's a big expiring contract and the Lakers have an eye on the next two summers. Only way they trade him is if it comes with lottery picks next spring and the contracts coming back expire like his.

You'd have to be delusional to think the Lakers are going to get a player of value, one they'd want to keep for longer than this year

right, so you are going to trade him to a contender who happens to have 20 million in cap space or a giant trade exception?

You could give him to Philly for spencer hawes. but, again, not a contender.

Heat get

Pau Gasol (expirer)

Lakers get

Udonis Haslem (expirer)

This works out financially.

Next year, the Hawks can sign Gasol to a 2 years, 12 million deal.

Jazz have plenty of expiring veteran contracts. Lakers have to make it worth their while to take on Pau's sorry ass though.

What do you think?

can they compete with the 3 players they acquire? NO
do they get a player that atleast has some upside? No

tell me doing expired for expirer what do the lakers gain? nothing.

Pau helps the tanking. Marvin and Jefferson fit with D'Antoni small ball. Lakers save some money. Gasol eventually bought out and he's able to sign with a contender.

If he's bought out, then yes it's help with the tanking.
Maybe Marvin and Biedrins, since without Gasol the Lakers will need another big.
But if Gasol's trade value is that low, it shows that the Lakers are fukked.

Pau Gasol for Nene Hilario + Jan Vesely

This is the best I could come up with. He would definitely help out the Wizards but they wouldn't trade any of their young guys or picks for him. :confusedshrug:

D'Antoni wouldn't want Biedrins. Marvin at the 4 and Jefferson at the 3. Gasol helps tanking if he's playing too!

Only teams I think would be a lot better off with Pau as a starter (that are top 5 in their conference) are SA and Miami. Neither could probably pull off a realistic trade.

Sacre and Hill at center for the Lakers? Is that good enough in the playoffs?

I actually do think Marvin would do well in MDA's system.

Unless Lakers are willing to take on an extra year or two in salaries, they aren't going to get much value in return. At best, they are looking at matching expiring contracts with a better fit or a mid level prospect. Possibly a mid to late teens first.

Bucks wouldn't even trade Giannis for Pau straight up, the guy is one of the bigger basketball talents in the world and only reason you don't pay attention to him is because he's already drafted and playing in Milwaukee.
