Drob wasn't at all, but dude could run the court as well as any C I've seen.

Relies on a lot of things, but Dave Cowens would be a decent choice. Wes Unseld for his outlet ability as well.

Bob McAdoo

Great choice! Undersized center, very athletic, and can face up and shoot the midrange shot. But the key is HE PLAYED MUCH BIGGER and was a great rebounder as well.

Bob McAdoo

Awesome choice! Very athletic and one of the most prolific scorers of all time. Plus he played big and was one of the L's best rebounders as well. I think McAdoo and Cowens would be my picks.

You need a center who can stretch the floor and be a dominant presence on defense and the boards.

Kevin Garnett.

Kg, Russell, Dirk, or Bosh

Definitely Russ IMO, Hakeem or Robinson would be great as well (KG too if he counts as a center for this exercise).

I'm a defense-first guy, though, so apologies for neglecting to mention mobile offensive bigs.

I wouldn't pick DRob for any kinda ball as my first choice. The dude was a freak. That's for sure. But even though my team plays small-ball, still I'll need a proper low-post game. 1989-90 Ewing and rookie or sophomore Shaq is a better call then DRob, IMO.

My first choice would be Bill Walton. When I think of small-ball, passing ability is the first thing that pops in my head instead of mobility and Walton probably was the best passing big man with a above average mobility and insane fundamental.

KG. Could post up, run the floor, play lock down D, average 15 boards a game and knock down midrange jumpers better than any big man ive ever seen.

So you wouldn't call Nowitzki a big man coz of his playing style? Or you are just straight up blind?

Not saying he is the fastest on the break, but Shaq ran pretty damn fast too.

Good points. Perhaps spending too much time on the PC board @ RealGM is making me overvalue mobility.

Was Patrick Ewing, at one point, a better player than David Robinson ever was?

No if were are picking outta position, then u can pick any number of guys. And I also thought we were picking for undersized centers too. That's why I picked Cowens and McAdoo. But if we can pick any center for small ball, I think I would pick Olajuwon or Robinson. Both freak athletes, can run the floor, rotate epic on defense, and can face up while being dominant away from the basket. And not just catch and shoot midrange shots. But they both had SF type athletic ability and skills to go with it.

I would really like to see the 2 of them go head to head mid range jumpers. Not trying to discredit Dirk, just trying to emphasize how versatile KG was.

Not the best but Marcus Camby in his younger years was one of the better running bigmen I saw. Off the few clips I saw of him you could probably add Ralph Sampson also

Yea has to be Hakeem. Who cares if he's tall. He's the best small ball player in history, imo, because dudes think he's a C. He's basically not but he was so good he was able to play the position and be one of the all time greats.
