Yes.
But as defense is often overlooked he may not make it.

Absolutely. He was quite arguably the greatest modern defensive center. Dude was a beast.

Without a shadow of a doubt. He has case for best defender of his generation.

He'll get in for sure.

Nope. It's Kevin Garnett without question.

Yep Big Ben gets in for sure. Could defend multiple positions and is one of the best rebounders and defenders ever. And did it as an undersized center. For sure gets in!!

Without question. 4 DPOY's, only Mutombo has matched that. Also has a ring as a defensive anchor.

Definitely. As long as we're putting offense-only guys in, we can't justify not enshrining one of the best defenders in league history (especially since it's a much bigger HOF than some other sports/leagues have).

No, he should not get in. Fantastic defender but he was not the best defensive player of his era. Duncan and Garnett were both better defenders and a few of Wallace's DPOY awards should have gone to Duncan. I also don't think that Wallace had a long enough prime. When he went to Chicago he was a very diminished player. He did not have the same kind of defensive impact.

2001 defensive rating- Wallace(94) Duncan(94) Garnett(99)
2002 defensive rating- Wallace(93) Duncan(96) Garnett(101)
2003 defensive rating- Wallace(90) Duncan(94) Garnett(98)
2004 defensive rating- Wallace(87) Duncan(89) Garnett(92)

and a few of Wallace's DPOY awards should have gone to Duncan.

Wallace averaged more rebounds, blocks, and Duncan never had a lower defensive rating from 2001-2004 and in 2005 and 2006, Duncan's was lower by just 1 in both seasons.

I also don't think that Wallace had a long enough prime. When he went to Chicago he was a very diminished player. He did not have the same kind of defensive impact.

He had a monster 7 season prime with 4 DPOYs and was also runner up 1 other time. He was also 32 when he got to Chicago.

Ben Wallace for his career has 4 DPOYs(only Mutombo has matched that), 5 All-Defensive 1st teams, 3 All-NBA 2nd teams, 2 All-NBA 3rd teams. That sounds pretty worthy to me.

Absolutely he should. I think it's funny that guys who are only good at scoring like Melo can be considered locks but guys who specialize in defense don't get any hype..

There's no one who thinks Carmelo should get in if his career continues along the same trajectory.

Melo will almost surely get in.

Funny that someone with "rebound" in there name says he can only score when he is probably the best rebounding SF in the game.

Heck yeah. To me, the HOF is for impactful players, Ben was that kind of player so yeah, HOF worthy.

no question.
Ben Wallace was one of the emotional leaders of that great Detroit team. His averages in Detroit and his impact overall was great. He should be honoured for being a hard worker and the defensive anchor for one of the best defenses of all time.

- 4 time all star
- 4 time DPOY
- 5 time All NBA (no first teams)
- 6 time all defense (five first teams)
- 2 rebounding titles
- 1 time leader in BPG
- 1 NBA title
- 4 straight conference finals (including 2 finals appearances)

1 Ring and 4 DPOY should be enough to get in, although defense may be overlooked when it comes to HOF.
But he also had a couple of all star games and all-nba teams.

Absolutely, defense gets way overlooked as others also mentioned. Maybe not 1st ballot HOF, but with time he should get in, otherwise it would be unfair IMO.

Yeah he should I also reckon Shawn Marion should get in and no one ever talks about him, his numbers in his prime were crazy and he been between a elite/above average defender his whole career and been healthy for most of it, plus his effort in containing LeBron for the Mavs title just adds to it.

I never thought his status was even debatable... he should be first ballot HOF. He was the definition of defense for half a decade or more straight.

If Dominique Wilkins got in, Melo will too. In many ways, they're similar players. Dominique was a slightly better scorer IMO, but they're also very similar players: 25-30 PPG/6-7 RPG while not great defenders and no real postseason success.
