if i switch my comcast modem with another identical comcast modem will the new one work?I have internet access it just my modem is messed up

are u paying monthly for the modem? they should replace it if you are. if not then I think what you have to do is activate it, probably by calling them

before you buy another one, go to their website and check if they a list of compatible modems and instructions on activating are probably there too.
