Drose won the MVP recently. Paul George is likely to win this season. In a historical context these two guys are nothing special. Thank goodness for the 2014 draft. The NBA desperately needs an infusion of talent.

You're right. We need to go back to the days of Steve Nash winning back to back titles and Kobe/Shaq having one a piece. That's when the award meant something.

In terms of elite players it's extremely weak. Niqqas actually consider Tony Parker as a top 5 player. He might not even be top 15 in 1990.

if a pretender since 2008 like spurs can make it to the finals and game 7 of it. Then thats how weak it is.

Tony Parker has literally no argument for top 5, though.

We are in an era where many people consider Chris Paul the 3rd best player in the NBA.

Let that sink in for a moment. Chris Paul.

Yeah, this era is weak as hell.

A peaking Rose and George are nothing special?

How awful an era where the best PG of his generation is considered the third best player. So awful. Just terrible.

When did hating on Paul become so fashionable?

A peaking Rose and George are nothing special?

In hindsight, yes, that's probably his peak. As far as projected peak? Not even close. He was literally 22 years old.

pretty weak when a player coming off achilles injury starts dominating the league immediately

kids will change the game because they are obnoxious to the veterans before them. the multiple all stars on one team was a game changer but pretty weak in legacies.

We are living in an era where Lebron is compared to Kobe or MJ for that matter.

I think it's gone through a bit of a talent drop in the last 10 or so years, but I can see it rapidly improving hereonin.

Guys like Drummond, Davis, with soon to be Wiggins, Jabari and Randle coming into the league will soon improve it.

The East has been rather weak for years, Heat have had hardly competition to deal with...

You only start appreciating the greatness of certain players when they do it again and again and again.

The consistent greatness of LeBron, Durant and Paul is gradually showing that they have nothing to be ashamed about when compared to greats of the past at their position. A Paul George has the talent but he's unproven compared to those three.

Right now uber-talented PGs and SFs are everywhere. Bigmen are the weakpoint (SGs too but it doesn't matter as much). We're in a transitional period for power forwards with arguably three of the top five PFs of all time slowly making their way out... AD, Love, Griffin and Aldridge don't look like they're quite the same caliber (not sure yet about AD, could be), but there's at least one very good HOFer in that list. I'm not too worried.

The real problem is the C position, as evidenced by Dwight Howard's inability to assert his dominance on the league like past great centers (I don't think it's his fault either, he's forced to play a role he doesn't have the shoulders for because otherwise there'd be a vacuum. He was never supposed to be the dominant center in the NBA like a Wilt or Shaq obviously was). This is largely due to injuries. The big 7 footers who were supposed to play the dominant center role, particularly the three most promising of them, Yao, Oden and Bynum, all got injured. There's a bright spot though, with not only Drummond (who strikes me as more of a Dwight-like "winner by default" if no other prospect pans out) but also the two next drafts bringing us Embiid and maybe Turner, Okafor and Towns. It's very likely that one of the next two drafts produces at least one generational center who can hold the fort (unless they too get injured). My money's on Embiid but we'll see.
