View Full Version : Kobe came back too early.

I don't think Kobe can't be an all-star-superstar player again in the future, but his output so far makes it harder and harder to believe.
I know that all players back from injury are going to be rusty, and we should never have expected him to be the mamba right out of the gate this season, but there are a few more concerning issues than him just not putting up good stats:
- playing to lose weight. It was shocking to see Kobe of all athletes return when he was still out of shape. He is playing to get in shape.
- his jump. Whether shooting or driving, it is clear he has seriously lost a step in his vertical. I imagine this will improve but it is seriously hurting his game right now.
- his defense. He got burnt by Westbrook multiple times when they got blown out by OKC. In a system where the defense is already pretty bad, he really needs to get back to lockdown form.
- turnovers.
I think he should have waited till January, been in great shape, been really confident in practice, and ready to go for the new year. Now he looks like he's 45 and unless he gets better decently soon people are really going to start to worry. They will not make the playoffs if he isn't putting up production like he was last year or the last decade.

He should have waited one more month at least, really until after the All-Star break.
But since he is back, he is playing way too many minutes.
He should play 15 mpg in December, then 20 mpg in January and move gradually from there.

I respect Kobe so much for coming back ASAP and getting himself reacclimated not caring about stats or ego. He knows coming back now is the best for him long-term. He sees the big picture.
Unlike Derrick Rose who waited until he was 100% comfy... and still came back rusty and ended up injuring himself again anyways...
Just goes to show that if you're able to play and you're fully healed, YOU ****ING PLAY. No If, ands, or buts...
I don't see how you morons can hate on Kobe but yet not completely despise Rose.
Oh wait.. yes I can.. You guys are idiots and never see the big picture

Didn't he score like 30 points in game 1 of the regular season? Kids seriously underrate Dominique Wilkins too, lol. Dominique was like equivalent of a Kevin Durant.

Every body is different. Also, Wilkins was a FAR better athlete than Kobe was. He wasn't a better player but he was physically off the charts, no comparison. There's just far too many factors involved to throw those numbers up there from 1 player and think you have the answer.

So what you are saying is that Dominique at age 33 after an achilles tendon tear was better than a non-injured Kobe at 33. Thanks for the info

Not quite sure about Kobe been twice the player Wilkins was. Both are natural scorers. Wilkins just did'n have the supporting cast to win a championship.
He came back early to get into the ALL Star ballot.

He came back early to get into the ALL Star ballot.
True, and he also wants to add to his career point total. He obviously has his sights on the all time leading scorer record.
But he's affecting his team in the process. In the previous 8 games before he arrived they had 6 wins with 2 losses now their 1w 4L. They probably should've sign someone like D.J. Agustin.

It's actually the right time. I've been and seen serious injuries happen to athletes.
A simple way to put it is Kobe hasn't play ball in about 8 months. He has to slowly let his body get back into it. He has to know what his body can or can not do as time goes on.
If let's say he was playing in a rating of 90/100 before injury. He's going to play in a rating of 50 for a few games, then 60, then 70, then 75 and hopefully he still has enough hops in his legs to get back to near 85-88.
If you're turning on the TV and expecting the old Kobe, you're not going to see him until at least February.

Keep in mind that Blake and Farmar are out who have been playing well for them this year
They have Kobe doing too much too soon after coming off this injury and not playing with several pieces of this team that long. Point guard is a bit too much to ask IMO.

He's just honoring his contract with contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. They paid him $50 million dollars.

Give me a break Kobe twice the player Wilkins was? If anything Wilkins did not have an opportunity to play with Shaquille O'neal. You Kobe fans are so delusional it is not even funny anymore.

He's also 4 years older than Nique when the injury occurred, with several more seasons under his belt.

Exactly... Kobe is older and has more mileage so if your already judging Kobe right now only 5 games in than you're being totally inconsiderate. Give Kobe at LEAST 20-30 games until you start judging him
