Fasting is stupid and unhealthy. Running is the quickest way to shed pounds. Try limiting your caloric intake too. You can pig out, but on the right stuff.

there's scientifically proven diets that supposedly work by fasting for 2 days of the week or something. By fasting though you still eat but it's some small amount for those days. But yeah exercises regularly and eat healthy.

Eat better. Exercise more.
Fixed.

And I'm no dietician or personal trainer, but if you're 30-40 POUNDS overweight, especially at your age, that is seriously f*cked up. The good news is, ight now your body has so much more fat than it should that it's looking for any excuse to melt some off. Meaning, you're obviously jamming way too much bad shit into your body and are not anywhere near active enough. To be that far overweight as a teenager, I can guarantee potato chips, pizza, burgers, fries, candy, and soda are in your diet in high quantity.

Even with a completely sedentary lifestyle, you will lose pounds if you just start eating real food that doesn't come out of a box or a freezer (or both). You don't even have to count calories or eat AMAZINGLY, just better. Whole grain/whole wheat breads/pastas where you used to eat the white kind. Fruit in the morning instead of waffles and bacon. Cut out the sauces - mayo, ranch, etc. on your sandwiches. Dressings on your salads. Eat a vegetable every now and then. Cut juices/sports drinks/energy drinks and ESPECIALLY soda out completely. Rely on water. Coffee black if you need to drink it. Nuts are a great snack instead of chips for instance. If you crave a pizza, buy a whole wheat/whole grain crust yourself, and put things like chicken, beans, onions, peppers, etc on it.

Just eat real f*cking food dude. It's not rocket science.

At that height, your ideal weight should be 185lbs. If you ask me though, that's a bit of a stretch. That's athlete weight with little body fat. If you start lifting weights, you won't feel the drain of losing another 30 lbs and you'll just stay right around the same weight, but turn the flab into muscle.

How long would it take to turn the fat into muscle
How long would it take to lose 20-30 pounds
Which would take more effort and dieting?

I think you should re-read my post. Your focus doesn't need to be all vegetables all the time, you don't need to "go on a diet," you just need to eat real food, it just needs to be on making better choices period. It's not so much what you need to be eating as the stuff you need to STOP eating.

As for meals to make, there are plenty of resources on the Internet. But even getting some chicken breats, smothering them in diced onions/peppers, a baked potato (no butter/sour cream/no toppings), and some raw carrots would make a filling meal that is probably 100% better than what you're eating right now. That's not even to say that the meal I just described is THE BEST, but it is BETTER and it's tasty. Focus on being better.

You could lose 20-30 pounds and still add muscle. They are not mutually exclusive. It's a pretty limited group of people who want/need to be 215 pounds of muscle at 5'9".

Don't listen to those moronic suggestions. My advice for you is to go straight Paleo, which means eating a lot of RED or WHITE meat. You have to eat healthy to get your metabolism up, not eating will not help your case.

Pork
Cow meat
Chicken
Tuna/Fish
Eggs
Pickles
Turkey Burger
Avoid ketchup or any types of sauce that contains (High Fructose Corn Syrup, google it.)

Eat in MODERATION, if you don't eat rice -- that's good. Eat a lot of greens like salad.

AND THEN JUST RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, JUST RUN 2-3 miles whenever you can. If it helps you, run in intervals. Run for 5 mins. take a break for a minute, run for 10 mins, take a break for 1 & 30 mins. Run for another 10, take a break for a minute & the rest is up to you.

YOU HAVE TO BE CONSISTENT. Discipline/consistency, hardwork & dedication is the key to achieve your goal.

Good luck.

Just watch what you eat, NO PROCESSED FOODS ... THE ONLY PROCESSED FOOD THAT YOU SHOULD BE EATING IS TURKEY BURGERS. 1 or 2 turkey burgers is good.

I forgot to mention that you should eat a fruit after your meals.

Sleep early & work out 2 or 3 times a week. The more muscle you have, the more you lose weight, & the more it'll boost up your metabolism.

If you don't have money for olive oil, then just bake it. It's disgusting, but it'll pay off. I wouldn't mind grilling, though. Rob Wolff grills bacon in the morning. He really said that Eggs, Bacon & coffee are good for you. Those food contains the nutrients you need to start your day off.

Sugar is your enemy.... Sugar is what makes you fat, not fat. Cut out all the sugars.... Also, if you wanna lose weight, you gotta burn off more calories than you take in. It's almost impossible to lose 30-40 pounds in 2 months....I've lost 25-30 pounds in like 3-4 months.... i was running every day and barely eating anything. Good luck though!

Don't change your eating habits. Just make sure you either run, do jumping jacks, and do a few ab routines at night. And when I say run, I mean run into you feel your abs tighten. Basketball has more to do with stamina then you think.

I went through a depression like 5 years ago? Gained 10-15 lbs. in over 2 months. I just really let myself go. haha I had a horrible metabolism, it was just crazy.

I was 5'10, I was around 185, went up to 200. & at that time, when I weighed myself -- I WAS LIKE, WHAT THE ****.F*CK MY LIFE, OH-EM-GEE. :lol That was my motivation ever since.

Before the depression, basketball was my life, so I just had a little baby bump & my face blew up. HAHA

I did not do any road work, I just ran laps around the court & lifted weights, did a lot of jump ropes, sit-ups.

"Don’t be upset by the results you didn’t get with the work you didn’t do." I wrote that on my wall.

It's been 5 years & I'm down to 180. Took me about 3 or 4 months to get my old body back.

Write down how many calories you eat per day for a week straight and then calculate the average. After that, you can look on the internet for calculators that will show you how many calories you need to cut from your current diet in order to reach a designated weight. I have done this every time I cut and it has never failed to work. That being said, I also lift weights and run. If you consume less calories than your maintenance, you will lose weight. It's an awfully simple concept, so there is no reason to overcomplicate it.

You can lose 30 pounds in 4-6 months with regular diet and exercise.

Do you play basketball? If you don't want to run (cause running sucks), play a lot of basketball.

Look at protein content in foods. Eat more fish, nuts, dairy. Like others have said, stay away from anything processed. That shit will slow your metabolism to a crawl and just the mere thought of exercising will put you to sleep. If you ever get sleepy after eating a meal, you know you're eating the wrong thing. I know from experience.

It depends on how much you can lift and which lifts you are doing. It seems like you would be better off with a solid kettlebell workout.

That's true, it would be a pretty good idea to watch plenty of tutorials and take it really slow. Also, if he does get kettlebells, they should be very light weight. He could easily hurt himself lifting dumbells or barbells as well though. If he takes it slow, there shouldn't be any problems.

That's the thing, the weight of the dumbbells I use varies depending on what exercise I'm doing. For example, I shoulder press far heavier dumbbells than I curl and I chest press more weight than I shoulder press. You'd be better off buying a dumbbell set and finding out how much weight you can do for each exercise. Every individual has different capabilities.

I used to be almost underweight but now i'm about 10 pounds overweight apparently because I can't be bothered cooking meals and end up eating junk. Hard too now my girlfriend lives with me there's less time I can spend by myself exercising and any food I make usually has to feed her too and she's picky with food.

Eat right, and exercise... Reduce your calorie intake by a MINIMUM 500 to lose 1lb a week and this is off your calorie intake to maintain... You have to calculation your macro nutrients, and calorie to maintain... If you don't want to get too fancy, just eat less and spread your meals out. Have 6 small meals a day and hit the gym... You need high protein but low carbs and fats... Try to limit your fats on only good fats (not saturated or trans fat), you need to do your research because we can't give you all the info...
