I wonder if this makes the Lakers more inclined to be active in the trade market.

I feel so bad for Kobe, say what you want about the guy he worked really hard to come back and play. Nobody who works that hard deserves this.

Lakers have to move gasol and get anything back. It's tank time :(

And since farmar is still at least a week away, i fear we are going to read this headline in the next few days, "Lakers sign PG Chris Duhon" further confirming said tank

Not sure whether the minutes could have caused this, but he has played too much since coming back. I know this is the black mamba, but MDA should have had the balls to say no to Kobe - play limited minutes and work your way back slowly.

Real blow. Hope this isn't the beginning of an injury trend for him. The last thing we all want to see is Kobe struggling in his last few years - needs to go out on a high like his sparkling resume deserves.

That's too bad. Not the worst injury, if they do a procedure to fix it it's minimally invasive that's if they do anything at all... certainly not a game changer in the long run...

Also reported Nash will be out another 4 weeks

Dr on the radio said minutes had nothing to do with it.. Caused by hyper extension, most common injury with that type of action on the knee joint

What is this injury. So it's just a fracture and will heal on it's own? No surgery?

Doesn't seem like it will affect his playing because it's just a fracture. Not joint or ligament related.

What a sorry season. The good news is that he can rest up till this injury heals itself.

Kobe should be fine, this is not considered a career ending type injury.

Though, I think its best for Kobe to just shut it down for the rest of the season, and TIME FOR THE LAKERS TO TANK!!

The injury itself is not a big deal though, but any hope that the Lakers had at making the playoffs are now out the window.

Best case - Clean house and play hard every night but hopefully lose try to get in that top 8 draft range and/or try to rape someone in a trade i.e. Pau Gasol from Memphis. Don't think any high names (Melo, etc.) are coming to LA during free agency this year

Nope.

There's a difference between possibly not playing because of a sprained ankle that nobody even remembered happening and an actually injury that will cause a player to miss extended time.

The injury is not a big deal, this also insures they will not make the playoffs and likely a higher draft pick.

Kobe should just take the rest of the year off.

He worked really hard to come back early, too. Unfortunate.Agreed. Sad to see this happen, similar situation to D-Rose. Kobe's window is quickly closing. His body might just be breaking down at this point. Happens to us all eventually. Anyway, he's a legend. Rather see him go out now than as a meager shell of what I remember him as in his prime.

Congratulations Lakers!!!!

Way to ease Kobe back!!!

Instead of letting his body heal and keeping him out until after the All-Star break, and then playing him at a low number of minutes (say 15 mpg) and then working his way up, the Lakers decide to run Kobe back too early and then running him too many minutes.

Way to protect your 48 million dollar investment!!!!

The Lakers get the award of stupid organization of the year!!!

Makes the contract signing look stupid though. You're right tho

I don't necessarily think that it makes the contract signing look stupid either. Unless of coarse, the Lakers were banking on Kobe being Kobe again, which i doubt.

In my opinion, the contract sighning had more to do with the Lakers wanting to send a message out to the league, and to potential free agents of the future, that they will always take care of their players.

Whether true or not, I think they had longer term implications in mind (long after Kobe's 2 years), when they offered Kobe his contract.

im sure as hell no lebron hater on this board would celebrate a lebron injury, perhaps its the nature of an underaged lebron fanbase, some jumped on his bandwagon before learning to wipe their asses

This right here, I'm not a LeBron fan, but I would never want to see him get injured, let alone celebrate it, that stuff just isn't in the spirit of the game.

I know it's an unrelated injury, but honestly why did the lakers rush into giving him a new contract? I keep bringing this up and no one answers besides troll answers. I'm not talking about the value of his contract or the revenue, but there was no rush so why didn't they let him come back and play until the all star break and then sign a deal with confidence knowing he was going to be elite again?

Giving out that contract wasn't bad.

But what they should have done is tell him - we gave you this contract, don't rush back because you are going to be a free agent; you're covered for the end of your career; take your time and get fully healthy; ease your way back into game shape in time for the playoffs.

They should have told him - no point in rushing back too soon and suffering another injury when you're not fully healthy.

Kobe's contract is an appreciation contract. He's been the most or one the most popular players in the world for almost 20 years, he's brought in the Lakers a crazy amount of revenue. Him having stuck with the Lakers for so long is the only reason he could get these 30 mill and 24 mill contracts. Laker owners are paying a fair amount compared to what he has brought in, it's not their fault there's this cap on how much they can spend on players and that it hurts their team to pay Kobe the fair amount for his career long services.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the player-first fans of kobe as he continues to decline. He is really the first fanboi supported player (not that iverson or jordan or even bird didnt have people who valued the individual over the team, but the internet era has changed it to an even more myopic view of a player) to enter his twilight.

Do the kobe-centric fans lose their interest in the nba? Do they jump on a new player? Is that player necessarily a laker?

it was a loyalty contract. what cant you comprehend about that? this is exactly why they gave it to him before he came back. kobe has given his whole adult life to the lakers, and they are well aware. and during that time, kobe and company won 5 nba championships. so this 50 million contract is a thank you for all that.

The Achilles injury was a career ending injury for Kobe. Anyone his age having that injury is DONE.

The Lakers are retarded.

His body is 100% done and that was a fact the instant he had that Achilles injury. His body can't handle playing in the NBA anymore.

It's astonishing how anyone could not grasp that from the very first moment he got hurt last year. A freaking injury like that at age 35..........you are DONE.

How in the world anyone thought his body would ever hold up again.......Even if he had recovered from that injury, which he never ever will (it's complete bullshit to claim he did), of course he will keep getting injured over and over and over from now on.

Next year Nash should retire, dantoni gone, Lakers maybe get a good pick, and a fresh start for Kobe

Whatever he's irrelevant and so are the Lakers.

At least he won't be embarrassing himself on the court.

So irrelevant you came to the thread to post about it.

Good job champ.

He should just sit out this year. Get healthy, train slowly. Practice all the way into shape.

And F dantoni. He needs to be gone by next year. Who the hell thought of the idea of playing Kobe at PG, at his age, after just coming back from surgery? He needs to be fire ASAP.

Next year Nash should retire, dantoni gone, Lakers maybe get a good pick, and a fresh start for Kobe
why in the **** would nash retire? Hes got millions coming to him, why leave that on the table?
