Put on the Spurs uni, you cease to suck.

They could have Josh Smith, JaVale, Bargnani, JR Smith- and they practically would never screw up.

Wrong. The Spurs prioritise attitude and chemistry over raw talent. Players don't fit in because it's the Spurs, the Spurs will only sign players that will fit in.

Pop's not going to put up with any drama queens - look at what he did with SJax - got rid of him right before the playoffs and went in with only 1 true SF (Leonard) on the roster.

Captain Jack laughs at your silly argument.

OP is right. I just said the same thing to my brother.

Pop = GOAT coaching ability?

Misconception. High IQ players with at least solid passing ability fit the Spurs system. Selfish players, egomaniacs, and low IQs ballers never last long in SA. Examples of players who DIDN'T fit in:

Beno Udrih - mentally weak and hated the way Pop always pressured him. Whined and complained when he was assigned to the D-League affiliate for the Spurs. Got better when he played in Sacramento and didn't have to play under any pressure to win.

Richard Jefferson - talented but low IQ prevented him from lasting very long in SA.

Drew Gooden - dumbest player to ever suit up for the Spurs.

Turkoglu - timid choke artist. Got better when he left SA and played in Orlando.

Dejuan Blair - Selfish player that didn't really care for the Spurs system. Always looking to score as soon as he got the ball instead of making the right pass. Never tried to learn any of Pop's defensive schemes. As a result, he spent his last year in SA rotting on the bench.

2013 SJax - very coachable back in 2003. Turned into a headache when he returned 10 years later. Jackson proving not everyone matures as they get older.

Players on the current squad:

DeColo - successful player in Europe but can't play worth a damn in Pop's system. Whines about his lack of playing time. Already decided he's headed back to Europe next year.

There's plenty of others too like Samaki Walker, Keith Bogans, Ron Mercer, etc.

I terms of getting the most out of the guys he has available and making rotations work he is the obvious choice.
What makes people put Phil above him is the way he is able to manage multiple great players on the roster at the same time and utilize them without taking away from their game to the detriment of the team.
And you know these arguments ultimately boil down to how many rings you have and 11 is a pretty tough argument to beat and a win over a Warriors team is not really going to affect the discussion that much especially taking into consideration Thibs has done similar things while a depleted roster in the past few years.

Artillery you took the words right out of my mouth. Bean-o was the first player that came to mind (always out of shape and known to spend lots of time at the clubs), followed by the rest of the players you mentioned. Most recently DeJuan Blair, who often tuned out on defense. To be fair to Jefferson, had we gotten him earlier in his career I think it'd be a different story, but he was soft none the less and didn't seem to fit the system.

No just no. Those guys don't fit in the Spurs mentality. You have to have the right mindset before San Antonio will even consider you.

I agree with everything except the bolded. Jax just wanted more minutes to help the team win. You can't knock a guy for wanting to help his team win.

I think Pop regretted that decision after the Finals loss cause they could've really used Jax.

i wouldn't say thats true. id agree with what artillary said.

the system comes first, but im sure the spurs work very hard to find a special kind of player who has talent as well as the mentality that they prioritize.
