PPP stands for Points Per Play. Finish consists of all the plays when a guard would drive the lane and create a shot for him to just go up and finish, like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IccSyVHVfXs&t=5m38s).

48% on post ups, with the poor center competition at the time is pretty shocking.

Probably high compared to other centers at that time, because that was an extremely weak era for centers with most of the best guys being old or injured. But 48% on postups, let's compare that to some of the centers in today's league

Kendrick Perkins: 54.5%
Tiago Splitter: 57.1%
Dwight Howard: 44.2%

So Shaq is most like Howard, someone you can't run an offense through, and is best suited as a 2nd/3rd otpion. It looks like the whole Shaq/1a Kobe/1b thing is wrong. Kobe was clearly the go to guy of the Lakers, Shaq just fed off of being spoonfed easy baskets by Kobe drawing doubles/triple teams.

I might have to rethink my stance on Shaq as a whole. His numbers at his absolute peak are worse than that of the worst center in today's league :biggums:

Uh, what?

Almost 1000 post up plays called for him, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone today that would get that many post opportunities and finish at that rate.

Efficiency usually drops when usage increases.

To say nothing of the defensive attention he saw to a guy like Splitter. lol @ this dude comparing his numbers to Splitter. :oldlol:

It's because they don't go into Perkins enough. Durant would rather chuck, being the known chucker he is. If Brooks were a good coach, he'd force the offense through Perkins.

Yes, he received over 17 post up plays per game. If we want to talk about efficiency, Charles Barkley in the 84 game sample (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=312709)footage was shooting 76.5% in the post (even drawing fouls at a higher rate), but he has nowhere near the volume of attempts.

Can you please stop posting such trash.

The Lakers 3 peat was all about just giving it to Shaq, watching him score, draw fouls and get triple teamed giving teammates wide open looks. The offense was been run through Shaq on every team he ever played on until the 2006 Finals happened. That's 13, 14 years of having an offense run through him. I can't believe you compared him to Howard. LMAO.

Barkley was awesome but I assure he he didn't draw nearly as much double and triples as Shaq. Nobody in the modern era of basketball has had as many help defenders come over as Shaq, NOBODY. It doesn't show in the stat sheet but it shows in the w/l column. He made things so easy for teammates. Maybe some of you aren't old enough to what was called the "Shaq Effect", that's what it was referred to. Nobody disrupted the game for the opposition as much as Shaq.

[B]Tis True about Shaq  But lets remember a 1988-93 Chuck: whom drew as many double and triple teams as Shaq. Not to mention defensive rotations of per player guarding him (fear of fouling out). He was also called "The Zone Buster" in his prime.

After 1995 Barkley

Stats don't lie. Shaq disrupted nothing. Penny carried the Magic without Shaq, Kobe carried the Lakers, Wade the Heat, Nash the Suns, Lebron the Cavs, Garnett/Pierce/Rondo the Celtics. Shaq was a great second/third bannana, but 48% on postups (in an era where chain smoking Serbs were top 5 centers) does not cut it. Imagine if Shaq had played on a team like the Twolves or Raptors? :biggums: Lottery balls for dayz

Shaq's team beat Jordan's Bulls. Nobody else can say that during the dynasty.
