(1/2) Rubio confidant on 5-yr/no 5-yr ext. idea: "Value still high around league & a lot of teams would def. be interested in his services."

(2/2) Me talking now: Reading the tea leaves, Rubio people expect the 5-yr max extension offer next offseason. Will be interesting. #twolves

If he managed to get the Knicks and Lakers into a bidding war he might get close to it.

If Melo walks and Rubio hit the free market I could see him being the type the Knicks want to put on billboards.

Summer after next:

Lin, Rubio, and Dragic

Love, Marc Gasol, Aldridge, Brook Lopez, Kawhi Leonard. Faried, Jimmy Butler, and Roy Hibbert

All either free or able to choose to opt out.

All 3 of those points will get paid by some team hoping to pair them with one of the bigmen. Knicks have only 12-13 million spoken for after next season if Melo bolts. They could work themselves into position to destroy themselves with huge contracts again.

They have always been down to do that. If they had to give Rubio 12, LA, 15, and Faried 10 a season to get the Knicks back in the news I bet they would do it. The Lakers might as well if they were in position to try.

and if he signed a minimum deal, he could still hire you to wipe his ass and all you

People don't understand his influence on the game.

He is a very good defender and he is one of the few PG's in the league that actually runs an offense. I have never seen someone pass the ball to the post so often as no assist will be coming.

I don't want to sign him to a max but if it has to be done it has to be done.

is this a joke thread or something?

max contract for 9/4/8 on 35% shooting??? :lol :lol :lol

he's not even worth $8 million a year.

there's only 2 players in the NBA that deserve a max contract. all others deserve a slap in the face if they ask for a max.

There's no denying that Rubio is a talented pure PG, but the dude has practically 0 shooting ability, he seems to play defense in random spurts instead of consistently, and he hasn't shown any improvement in anything since entering the NBA.
You'd think he'd have a decent jumper by now, but nope. The guy has shot an embarrassingly low FG% since day one.

Max contract is laughable. He's a good player to have on a team, but I can't imagine any team would offer him a max deal...

But it is professional sports. Dumber things have happened.

most important player on the team though

Most important player on the Timbs but he doesn't deserve a max. If he was a good shooter, he'll get some considerations...or at least be a masterful driver and finisher. No more than 10 mil please.

This. With him they are a 500 ball club... and that's with everybody shooting like crap for some reason and nobody that can really play any defense. If Minny starts shooting better they should be closer to a 50 win team. Without Rubio they are 30-35 team. He is an important player... Don't be fooled by the lack of points and percentages.

Well, Kobe and Nash are too old to accept max deals, but I appreciate your concern.

The Wolves have restricted rights over him, so they can match any offer another team makes to him.

So let him become a free agent and just match.

You guys are high if you don't think LBJ, KD, CP3, and LMA are worthy of max deals.

I don't think LMA does. He's a tier just below true superstar imo. But maybe I'm just a bit harsh, there's less than 10 players in the league that are true superstars imo. Maybe 5.

More like a 5 year/65M-20M contract at max.

I can agree with that the cap is definitely 5. No more than that should be getting maxs. Max extension on the rookie contract? That's okay, but true maxs should be reserved for the MVP candidates.

Minnesota should give it to him. Other teams, it's debatable.

It's just a fact. If you're Minnesota, the only thing you have to offer is money unlike other teams who can offer a better city or a better situation to contend.

A PG who can't shoot is a waste of roster spot, let alone for the MAX this is just pure comedy.

Yikes, they'll need to create a new Maxiumum MAX contract if this guy is given a max deal.
