I didn't know Rubio's primary role was a pure scorer? :hammerhead:

I can agree with that.

He isn't the same confident player, but let's not pretend he's expected to get many points. His primary role is to pass it...

He's not really a legit 2nd scoring option.

He's more likely to lay an egg than scorers in the league, which is why he is not a scorer...

If this was Kobe or Durant, I would be more alarmed.

I don't expect him to score 15 or 20, but he should be able to score ~10 at the least.

I wouldn't give him a Max and so far only he had said he would like that. But he still got 12 assists

the way rubio was taught to play basketball probably has something to do with it. in spain, rubio probably was always taught how to play like a traditional point guard and just never put in the work to learn how to shoot/score. rather than focus on improving his weaknesses, his coaches likely taught rubio to work on his strengths. i think that in a few seasons of time he'll be fine especially since he's coming an acl tear

He was a complete scrub for years in Europe well before that injury. Stop making up nonsense excuses.

False. He was benched in Barca, and didn't even finish games, and actually was basically even kicked off the team IN TRUTH, he did not "leave to the NBA" as people claim, he was KICKED off his team by his coach,

due to the fact he could not shoot or score.

He sat on the bench in the 4th quarter of pretty much every game almost.

Right, so him being drafted was a myth.. He hired aliens to mind control the NBA GM's into picking him at a very high pick in the draft. Also, he didn't come to the NBA the first year he was drafted because he was too busy doing the paperwork for getting kicked off his team by his coach.

Where the hell do you get all this information? Just because you want to degrade every other point guard to make Spanoulis look better, you have to make things up and use them and think we'll all believe it??

This.

What do you expect from ISH where they base players performances solely on box score stats. If he went 5-20 with 16 points or so nobody would had said anything...

Give me a passing/ball distributor PG who plays very good defense over some tweener scoring guard who shoots a low % and hogs the ball.

Ever non-scoring PG's are expected to average at least 10 PPG on 50% TS. Dude is a total scrub. Oh, and CP3 still had 19/6/13/2 and the win.

Where was Rubio in the clutch?

Love averages 26/14/4/1. Was it Love's fault that Pekovic (HUGE fan, btw. only if he could improve his D) missed a couple of bunnies?

nikka please. The whole point of argument is that Love's bloated/unreal stats don't translate into wining. And your "line of defence" for Rubios abilities is mentioning cold stats.

You do see the irony here, right?

aj1987

Yeah. I don't know why Rubio is getting so much praise for 12 assists and good defense. H couldn't help his team win. Love freaking scored 45/19/6.

A starting NBA PG averaging 9.0 PPG on 46% TS is inexcusable. His passing (+rebounding) is not enough to "excuse him" and let's not pretend he's out there playing lockdown D.

KungFuJoe
12-23-2013, 07:06 PM
Well...there has to be a point where your weaknesses outweigh your strengths.

Just like bitching about Love putting up monster stats but playing no D. Same thing can be said about guys like Harden, who I have called out on not playing any teamball or D for two years now.

Rubio has a lot of strengths. But, at what point does his lack of shooting ability start to hurt his team? I know his job is to run the offense, distribute the ball, and play good D...but it's like playing 4 on 5 on offense. Opposing PGs can sag off of him, help out on others a bit more, etc. If Rubio had even a decent jumper, defenses would have be more honest.

Even Fisher, who was seen as a sidenote during the Lakers championship runs, was scoring at a decent 11ppg, shooting 40% from the field (and near 40% from 3). And he was clutch as hell.

Rubio is not just an average or below average shooter. He might be the worst shooter in the NBA at the 1, 2 or 3 spot. It's not that he doesn't score...he misses most of the shots he takes and can't finish at the rim at all.

He's a 2008 Rondo. You can sag off him, but he's so good at passing, he can still hit the lanes he needs to hit, and play good defense.

It'd be nice if he could shoot just a little, but whatever. He's still a net positive.

A guy that the defense chooses to leave open and still misses the wide open shots..............is NOT a net positive. A guy that the defenders can sag off of is NOT a net positive.

Clearly you never in your life played a basketball game.
