View Full Version : Surprising stats
Post some surprising stats from players you wouldn't expect to see those numbers from. This includes washed up/old players. Here's a few to start:
Steve Francis averaged 7 rebounds a game from 2000-2002 as a 6'3" guard.
Tony Parker shot 54.8 fg% from 2005-2006. Tim Duncan's best is only 0.1% higher.
Shawn Marion averaged 22 ppg, 11rpg, 2spg, 2bpg in 2005-2006.

I dont know why Marion's is surprising. He had like a 5 season stretch where his average was around 20 ppg. Obviously playing next to Nash in that offense was going to get him points. And he averages 9 rebounds a game for his career. Always been an elite defender.
I'm still in awe of Love's averages right now. 26/14/4 on 46/38/83? What the ****, man. Obviously Love is great, but those are GOAT level numbers. If you put the Wolves in the East with those numbers, he would be the MVP.

The fact the Reggie Miller's numbers are pedestrian relative to his legacy.
Wilt Chamberlain's career high in assists is the same as Chris Paul's... 21...
The fact the Reggie Miller's numbers are pedestrian relative to his legacy.
Its not surprising at all if you watched him play & understood his trolling character/mindset......... Reggie was a deliberate 4th quarter/clutch specialist, he loved to troll like that, coasting making you think you are doing good and then flipped on the what he/they called "Killer Miller" / "Miller Time" switch (4th quarter).... His numbers are nothing special until you realise that most of those points came where & when it mattered... Watching Reggie it was just best to wait and tune in when the 4th quarter started, thats how he rolled :) All of his Quarter points highs/milestones came in the 4th one.... so its not like he couldnt averaged more, he just went ham when they needed it win or lose.... and because he wasnt a chucker / selfish...
The max amount of FGA he ever took in a game was 29.............. and that time he scored 57 points....

Amare Stoudamire had little next to no offensive skills in his early years but averaged 26 ppg in '05. Got injured and later became a skilled player.
Other surprise is every time I look at the box scores and see Dragic numbers. He's very efficient and never hear a word about him.

Christian Laettner averaged 18 and 9 his rookie year, as well as in the 1996-97 season, when he was an All-Star.
People bash his pro career, but he actually put up solid numbers and was an All-Star once before he tore his Achilles.

Below are listed all the dates of games LeBron shot 24 or more times at 32% or worse clip (much less 25% like Kobe in G7) and his team won:

In 90-91, Michael Adams averaged 26.5 points and 11.5 assists in 36mpg over the season.
Terrible shooting stats, but not a name you'd associate with a 20ppg/10apg season. :lol

Antawn Jamison has more career points than Bernard King, Isiah Thomas, Scottie Pippen, T-Mac, Julius Erving (NBA), Rick Barry (NBA), Glen Rice, Chris Mullin, Kevin McHale, Chris Webber, James Worthy, Joe Dumars.
Vince Carter has more career points than his fellow UNC alum, and also more than Larry Bird, Clyde Drexler, George Gervin, and David Robinson.
Alex English scored more points than anyone else in the 1980s.
I don't know if any of these are surprising but I can't think of anything else at the moment.

Joe Johnson is 12 for 14 in final 30 seconds of games that Nets are tied or down by 3 in the last two years.
In that same situation, other top players are:
Chuckelo Anthony? 1 for 16.
LeBron? 8 for 17
Kobe? 4 for 11
Durant? 4 for 12
Joe Johnson is BY FAR the best closer in the league.
