If I was their parent and I saw one of these tweets, I'd walk in their room, backhand slap the shit out of them, then take all the shit I bought them and give them a flip phone and shit.

Man, I am just happy to see that my little brother-in-law isn't completely off his rocker. Dude was complaining that he got a PS4 w/ (I believe) EVERY SINGLE NEW game that's out for it, some new clothes and a new iPhone 5. Little f*ggot was almost crying about how he thought he was getting a Camaro.
:facepalm
If I acted this way growing up, I'd have gotten an ass whooping. At least these little shits can vent about their first world problems via twitter.

Man, I got beaten for crying about not getting a N64 when it first came out. My parents literally said 'be thankful we give you hot water'.

Some of those are fake probs. Still ungrateful brats acting like gifts are debts parents are obligated to pay off.

My two nephews (one is 6 years old and the other 3 years old) got an Ipod Touch for Christmas...
I don't understand why they got this, since they'll only use it for playing basic free games... And I'm sure both Ipod will be broke in 2 weeks.

Bet all you guys had cars when you were their age. Meanwhile they walkin to school gettin no pvssy and tryin to tweet that shit on a flip phone is a real pain in the ass
I didn't even get a bike. I had to buy my own bike when I was 15 which was when I learned how to do ride one. Yes I was dirt poor.

Exactly.
Kids are no more spoiled than when I was a kid. I had friends in high school crying that they didn't get EXACTLY what they wanted. Not just a watch, but a G-Shock. Not just a cell phone but a Star tac. Not just a winter jacket, but a Polo Sport. Not just a car, but a Civic....It goes on and on. And they would literally cry if they didn't get it.
Face it, we were all materialistic as kids. It's just more obvious now because we can express our feeling in multiple ways.

No they weren't. And they still aren't now in many places.

I know some time towards the end of the Western Roman Empire children were killed and tortured in the most barbaric ways (a particular taste for the violation and abuse of virgins - people seemed to have an obsession with burning people's sexual organs for some reason). That period was just like an endless production wheel of suffering and misery.

Generally what you're saying is true. We live in the information age where the average person is exposed to more and more 'news'
There are so many people that fail to realize that school shootings and whatever perception of chaos that they have is just a product of more exposure to these events. There are no more school shootings now than 10 years ago... yet you'll always find the people with the cliche "The world is going crazy"
It's always been crazy and will continue to be crazy. Kids are no more spoiled now (relative to their era) than the kids 40 years ago. I hate these 'nowadays' threads. Shit hasn't changed that much. The only thing changing is the technology.

Yeah, for Christmas, too. That's only rich kids, though. I don't personally know anyone who has.

Yea, never understood that. First car I bought at 16 was a $200 barely road worthy POS, but it got me around. Eventually saved up for a year to by a $1000 '91 Mitsubishi Magna hatchback, which I thought was the greatest car in the world at the time.
I never got the bitching about presents though, but I grew up kinda poor, so we were usually happy to get anything. I usually got clothes for Christmas/Birthday, which I loved since they were the only clothes or shoes I had that weren't hand me downs from my older brother.

Biggest gifts in my life were moreso timed with some sort of event happening than Christmas.
Mom got a new car -> I get a car
Got good grades -> Got PS1, action figures, etc...
Christmas -> Got jigsaw puzzles and educational stuff. :lol
It made it easier to just enjoy Christmas for what it was, getting together with people who care about you and having a nice meal. It was like Thanksgiving redux.

I'll play devil's advocate for a second and say that maybe those kids with the tweets with "Am I the only one who didn't get X" are probably just pointing it out and not really complaining about it. That tweet where the guy's brother got an iPhone and he got a map of Maryland was damn funny, though.
Also, here's more of the same (I think it's from last year)?

I got a car when I was 16. I don't see it as a problem as long as it doesn't put the parents out.
Having a car is a great way to learn maturity. It help me be even more of an asset to get a job. I managed my own gas, payed for my license, paid for my own repairs....

I get your point, but it's wrong imo. The electronic industry and their way to advertise stuff totally changed society over the last 10 years. They created pressure that people got to gave certain stuft, useful or not. Apple's success is generaly based on peer pressure above anything else, the way it never has been done before.

probably not like people are saying. but the spoils i think are fundamentally different. interactive technology is about as sharp a double edged sword as anything right now.
All you really needed to read was that story about the kid that got off after drinking and driving and killing 4 pedestrians.

I don't agree at all. Kids/teens have always been materialistic about their wants. Take in my time when I was a preteen. Swatch watches were all the rage. If a kid (admittingly) including myself didn't get the exact color/style they wanted they would literally cry.
I agree Apple is a power communistic advertiser, but it really wasn't any different in terms of kid's demands

Best thread I've seen on here in a long time. I agree this iPhone sh** is mostly peer pressure. Soo much technology is a loveless obsession, no real happiness is gained. I'm glad I've learned not to be materialistic but back then I wasn't much better than these kids. I have my theories on technology making this generation social vegetables but is this any different than what parents were saying about video games way back.
