You missed the punchline. Fans voted for the day's MVP. But, this just serves as a microcosm to illustrate the problems of voted-on awards. Fans are terrible, but media and even NBA coaches/ GMs are bad too, often making votes based on player reputations and having a herd mentality.

And this also shows that the NBA audience is filled with LeBron fans who apparently are similar to American Idol fans. Because James was the third best player on his own team yesterday and may not have even cracked the top ten in terms of best performers in yesterday's games. But, like tween-age girls and middle aged women on Idol night, his fans power-voted him to the top anyway.
