View Full Version : The NBA is very watered down right now

The NBA as a whole right now is extremely diluted. All but two teams in the eastern conference are worthless. The fourth seed in the east has a below five hundred record. The Western Conference is obviously far superior to the eastern conference but even in the West there seems to be a shortage of truly great teams. The Spurs are running on fumes and are still near the top of the conference. A flawed OKC team is leading the conference. Looking beyond the teams there also appears to be a shortage of truly great players in the NBA. There are plenty of good or very good players but few legitimately great players. The Center and shooting guard positions are completely decimated.

lol...is this real life?

The NBA might be doing well financially but talent wise the NBA is in a very dark place.

Talents fine it's just the bad/underperforming teams are not built well

The NBA is still hyping up a guy who is now way past his prime and falling apart with injuries, and happens to be on a very mediocre, boring team.

Talent 10 years ago was about as low as it ever was.
I don't think it's that bad right now though. 08-12 had a nice little bump in the quality of play in the league, but there are lots of not to impressive teams right now that are going to win 50+ games in the west and the east only has 2 quality teams really.

The framework for watering down the NBA was put in place w expansion in the 80s when Charlotte and whoever else came into the league. The league could handle the first expansion talent wise and more and more euros came over to kind of bridge the talent gap as the league expanded again but the NBA is not as good as it was, in my opinion.

Super teams? There's one super team first of all. Characters? What you mean like Dwight Howard and his excessive breeding or Dwyane Wade and his fruity taste in clothes? Where all of these interesting characters? It's mostly a bunch of spoiled narcissists. Dunks? Dunks have been around for ever, in abundance.

The 80s were a very tough era, until the expansion in the last couple of years. Not the best defense, but a high level of play for sure. 90s, not so much. Some great centers though, much respect to bigs from the decade. Stiff competition.

The late 90's were VERY watered down.

.... I'm missing a few, but you get the point.

Mid 80s through early 90s probably had the best individual talent and few of the greatest teams that the league has ever seen. Some of those teams were really stacked.
From 08 till now, the teamplay is much better than it was in the early 00s and late 90s. But the east got suck into injuries and teams be tankin'.

This Jameer clown is easily the biggest attention whore I've ever seen. In every thread he'll insert some idiotic comment and make everything about himself. Not only is he very creepy but he also appears to be very narcissistic. A creepy attention seeking asswipe who is likely not being truthful about his age and has a unnatural obsession with anime has me on ignore, how terrible.

90's was incredibly strong. The last 1 or 2 years was probably weaker, but it doesn't make it a weak era.

It's always different on ISH.
Some suggest that today's era was as good or even better than previous eras and then we have the opposite. There's no even ground. The east being this weak, though... probably favours OP's point.

Eh, we'll have to agree to disagree I think. Though I wasn't so much disparaging the 90s though, as stating that IMO the 80s were better, and that the current league is on a similar level (to the 90s, that is).

I would agree the 80's overall is better, but I don't think 90's is that far off from level of play.

Just take a look at the past All NBA teams. For example, 1991:
F Charles Barkley
F Karl Malone
C David Robinson
G Magic Johnson
G Michael Jordan
Hakeem Couldn't even make first team all NBA. This shits on today's league. In Today's NBA Paul George is the third best player in the league. Back then.....

No case? Seriously, no case? The guy is one of the most versatile players in the league. He's a two way player unlike that midget in LA who just plays the passing lanes.

Wouldn't be over Jordan and Magic.
So really, I don't see how he can be over the likes of the others mentioned either. Would he be a Top 10 player in 90-91 ?
Who's the midget in LA, BTW ?

What? I'm saying he has a case for top 3 player in today's NBA. In 1991 he wouldn't be close to that. He might not be a top 10 player. The midget in LA is Chris Paul.

My mistake, I was confused. I thought you meant George would be Top 3 in 91.
I agree, he more than has a case this year to be Top 3.
