View Full Version : Anybody here have ADD/ADHD?

QUIZZLE
12-31-2013, 02:20 AM
I've thought for the past couple years now that I may have it. I turned 23 in September, have not gotten checked out for it or anything. Per my understanding, it can develop in your adult years, but looking back on my childhood, I feel I may have had it since then, too.

I've taken a lot of ADD quizzes and what not online and seem to qualify for at least a mild case and sometimes higher than that.

Can those who have it go over the first process with your doctor? How you've felt since with Adderall or Strattera?

Thanks in advance.

Do those 'conditions' even exist? I'm serious...

Seems like a made up term to push drugs on any one they can find and reassure them that they're not normal but will be if you give them money for a drug.

Basically.. there's nothing wrong with you but you probably lack discipline.

Go ahead and get addicted to Adderall and see where that takes you..

Brainscans have confirmed less activity in the part(s) of the brain of adhd diagnosed patients...so yeah.

I've taken adderall, helped a lot with msot things in my life but you still have to choose to focus and whatnot. imo, adderall is not worth it, even though you may have a different reaction to it, the side effects can outweigh the positives. Anxiety, trouble falling asleep, the comedown is the worst, and rebound effects. Currently I ran out of medicine and haven't taken it in a week since I've had trouble getting a Dr's appt bc of holidays and holy sh1t man, I sleep 10-12 hrs a day because of how strong of a dependence I've formed for adderall and now that im off it, my body is extremely lethargic.

If you do begin taking a stimulant liek adderall, be careful with alcohol. When I first began adderall I was unaware of how a stimulant can mask the effects of alcohol until I had drunk too much and I was throwing my guts out looking like a newbie drinker.

It's a collection of symptoms they've given a name to because people need shit to be compartmentalized. I'm not suggesting you don't suffer from symptoms of the most generic disorder ever created to push pills but it doesn't really exist. You can make a choice to harness yourself better or give into some modern manifested prognosis that gives you a crutch and an excuse for many situations. You don't need any f*cking pills dude.

Took some because I needed to focus on writing my Final paper for college. Not gonna lie, it does help you focus a lot. You can always try it, but just don't become too dependent on it because Adderall is similar to meth, just a smaller sample size. You can easily get hooked up into it so try not to take too much.

Usually, imo, for people who get too "dependent" on it and have all of these "side effects" never needed adderall in the first place. Adderall isn't supposed to make you "focus" (it does) but mainly it is supposed to make you normal. The side effects you are talking about adderall is actually supposed to fix, and not cause.

I just took one today (for the third time) at 9am and I cannot fall asleep at all. It's 2:30 now. I laid in bed in a strange state of consciousness for like 2 hours thinking about some pretty awesome stuff... but I wanted to just go to sleep. I just came down with a cold though today (everybody has been sick around me it was bound to happen) and I know that is playing a part too, but the last time I took one it midnight one night and I stayed up all night and the next day... so I was up for like 40 hours straight. I am sure once you build a tolerance it's easier. I do not experience bad comedowns at all. For me it's just a state of great ease where I can relax for hours and feel great. During the high, I mostly just feel love. I am really understanding, patient, and totally at peace with whatever is going on. Nothing can get me down. It's like a happy pill for me... Pure euphoria followed by relaxation (no dysphoria). I am a very moody person naturally though constantly going through natural highs and lows (a lot of which can probably be attributed to diet) so I can probably handle the comedowns (dopamine/seratonin depletion) better than someone who is naturally more even keel. Oh another side effect for me is a lessening of appetite.

Of course that is just my experience and I am not diagnosed with anything, but I am easily distracted and my concentration is constantly being disturbed by thought/zoning out. I also have a problem getting my brain to fight through the struggle of mathematical and spacial problems... It doesn't come naturally at all. I just don't find reality as interesting as my thoughts a good amount of the time and my memory is amazing so I have a lot to recall. The lack of consciousness growing up surely retarded my brain growth and now I am having to make up for it. But yea my experiences make me think I would be a good candidate for ADD. It was mentioned to my parents a couple of times in school but they didn't do anything. Really all it is to me is a lack of discipline. I just didn't care when I was in school. When you get out in the real world though and you have to pay your own way, you start paying attention a lot more... Even when the subjects are boring. Certainly Adderall makes life a lot easier though and more enjoyable IMO. If I had insurance I'd definitely entertain getting a scrip.

This is true. I was diagnosed with ADHD and ADD. It's a bullshit condition. They gave me these pills called Strattera, all it did was take away my energy. I quit the pills and switched to yoga and learned breathing exercises. I can focus now more then I ever could with those pills.

It is all about discipline. ADD/ADHD is a crutch and an excuse alot of people I know use for their lack of achievement.

That is what I also think. Basically out of all those adhd kids, only 1% has it.

I have concentration issues when I was small. My parents helped me learn to focus or at least if need be, get back to the task after i wander away from it. Still have it.

Do not want to be negative or offensive, but I think absolutely every kid on the planet did that. And everyone still does it.

Good that your parents didnt gave you any pills :applause:

As someone who has worked in the teaching field, you wouldn't believe how many young kids are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. They are all hoped up on meds at such a young age. I think some kinda lose their personality or their "spark", as a result. I believe this condition is true in some case, and is the appropriate diagnosis, but I think we've gone overboard

Have symptoms of the following
- Piss poor capacity to focus linearly on a task. Get ousted on a daily basis grade-wise by people who have the focus to undergo the grind of undergrand.. ask me a question jeopardy style and I'll be king as long as the adrenals are going.. but the long haul is where I collapse like a sprinter attempting a marathon
- Scatterbrained as fukk
- Need some sort of fresh external stimuli/thrill to feel alive; that means yelling matches, inventing dumb fukking dramas, new girls, new assorted music, some sort of fight or indignation (this is the big one), rollercoasters, horror movies, pain or anything fairly frequently.
- Multitask always preferable to lineartask.. 20 browsers open, spend like 10 seconds doing a task then do something else then something else..
- Get distracted easily
- Conversating off random ass branches not being able to logically transition modus tollens style
- Constantly tapping toes.

Diagnosed concerta but fuuk that sh!t. This is America land of LIBERTY. I don't wanna be a slave to no big pharma industry fuuuk no

Sh!t happened even more frequently after I landed on my head grabbing a rebound. Ugh.

Time to go full Buddhist and Samadhi it up. Sh!t fukks up personal happiness to appreciate the simple things in life. Deeper meditation.

Strengthen, stabilize, and still the mind as they say.

Thank you based god for reminding us the merits of meditation

My wife has ADHD and used to take Wellbutrin (sp?) and she claims it helps her concentrate much better in class. She isn't currently taking anything because we just had a kid and plan to have another.

I am sure this condition is over diagnosed but I really don't see the harm in an adult taking pills to help them concentrate, I mean why not? A young growing brain may be different and if my son has this I will not put him on meds, but an adult? IMO if it improves your life then go for it...

Doctors throw out pills too quickly, but that doesn't mean modern medicine is wrong for everyone...

I have a somewhat similar view. It is overdiagnosed and I've read several articles of psychiatrists having concerns that it is overdiagnosed but that doesn't take away from the validity of this illness. It has a solid scientific cause, the neurotransmitter dopamine is not produced at normal levels and this is confirmed via imaging of the brain.

And to everyone thinking they have add but overcome it through self power, lol. Everyone believes they have add, that's why it's overdiagnosed, but not all doctors are generous with their script pad so they'll require you to be thoroughly evaluated by a psychiatrist and take a very expensive test.
