View Full Version : Who is your favorite "forgotten player?"

Go Getter

I admit, I hate all of my the Bulls rivals but growing up playing middle school ball in the Chi and HS ball in Indiana I always managed to get tickets to Bulls v. Pacers as a kid I followed the Pacers [past and present].

Who remembers or has heard of "the Rifleman" Chuck Persons?

He is the first person I remember actually "snapping' at a basketball game. I think he had a melt down at the old Chicago Stadium and tossed a ball into the stands iirc.

Here's a vid on him. He could get hot at any moment and light your team up and he used to be very animated....that's all I can really remember.

Check out this vid [the quality sucks].

Spree is forgotten? By who?

Most of the players in this thread aren't "forgotten".

Most of them were good or great players back in the day. All of them were at least great role players. But I hardly think that makes them forgotten.

Peja, Bibby, Eddie Jones, Spree, Stacey Augmon, Xavier McDaniel, Damon Stoudamire, Antonio Davis, PJ Brown. Chuck Person the freaking Rifleman! These guys aren't forgotten.

Looks like just a list of all-star to just-below-all-star...ish players from the 90s.

But I'll play:

"Sleepy" Sam Perkins "The Big Smooth". <-- Two nicknames will never be forgotten
George McCloud <-- Unabashedly shot more 3 pointers in a season than anybody...at the time.

Another is Dino Radja. I doubt many people remember him, but he was the star player of those putrid mid to late 90's Celtics.

Speaking of forgotten centers, Rony Seikaly is another. He'd probably be a top 3 center today, but was lost in the masses of great centers in the 90's.

I'm not sure if he's forgotten but these two are hardly talked about anymore.

Ricky and Baron Davis

Ricky was the 2000-2007 version of Rudy Gay, awesome talent somewhat a black hole on offense but the guy was still a highlight factory and always considered a good piece to have on your team.

Baron Davis. Where do I even start. This dude should've been one of the best point guards of his era but really was a front runner. Really only cared to play well when his team did. Did not take good care of his body or condition it well and was always injury prone.

However you would watch this guy some nights and think he was the best player in the NBA and you would be confused as to why his teams barely ever made the playoffs.

One more

James Posey

The guy was considered by many as a modern day Robert Horry, being a defensive anchor that would show up when needed most, jumping team to team helping them win championships and playing great man on man defense on the oppositions best players i.e. LeBron James. Truly a Lebron stopper After a championship winning season with Miami in 2005-2006 an awesome season with the celtics in 2007-2008 he took his talents to New Orleans and basically faded to nothing from their.

True. The Plastic Man was always fun to watch. Especially on those 90's Hawks teams. Didn't quite live up to his potential, partly due to injuries, but always a feisty defender and stayed in the league as a solid role player for a long time. :applause:

Yeah he went to my first HS rival. I went to grammar school with his cousin and I played at the rec vs his older brother for years.

He wasn't much of a scorer in the pros but in HS and to some degree college, he was pretty dominant.

I never got to chop it up with him but by all accounts he was a good kid growing up. I remember seeing him mow his parent's grass his rookie year in the league. His brother was an asshole though.
